she is sooooooooo muchhhhhh missed.....nobody sings like her...this is the exact explanation, description and way of singing, no need to belt out or to shout just to captive your listeners and audience.
Karen Carpenter is the epitome of class and talent; she is dressed modestly; she doesn't feel the need to be provocative and inappropriate as some current pop and r&b stars do. THIS is music that she brings -- along with wholesome, feminine beauty.
In about 1990 I purchased their 2-CD set, (among the first CD's I ever bought, after vinyl sort of disappeared from the stores!) and marvelled at how Richard would find two songs in the same key, recorded maybe ten to fifteen years apart, such as this very song and "Make Believe It's Your First Time," and put them together with nothing more than a bit of piano and maybe a wind chime.
You exhibit this sort of talent, in this extended version. Bravo!
I just love this song so very much but this arrangement is the absoloute best. Her voice reaches in and more than touches the heart.Possibly one of the greatest losses to beautiful music.A beautiful lady with the most beautiful voice.
I love the look Karen give the camera right before she goes back up on the stage beside Richard. You can tell that this song was exactly about her, she never found the one. WE ALL MISS YOU KAREN. :)
"I Need To Be In Love," one of my all-time favorite songs, demonstrates Karen's truly unique voice. How sad, how poignant, the ending of this video, as of course was the tragic early end of her life. Can't help but wonder how someone with such incredible musical talent, who could convey such beauty & emotion through her singing, found difficulty finding true happiness for herself. Would've loved to have known her & told her just how much she's meant to so many! Karen, we miss you!!!
I was touched by him playing alone after she's long gone...it seems very sad, but again patience has paid off, from 2:00 comes with the best and most clear, vocal version of the song you can find on youtube. yet I'm glad this vedio has only little views.
one thing I can say about this song is that you don't have to ever been in love to experience what love feels like. it's all in her voice, the joy and the pain, and when the song goes to just the music piece it self when her vocal paused at 4:29 and focus goes to the lonely old gray Richard, my eyes just started to water up, I never knew a pause could be suck a peak and climax of a song, then the resume of her singing near the end is a nice touch. Kneel before the editor
MoTownboy you absolutely NAILED this gorgeous remix. I humbly bow to you. Thank you for making a stellar song even more incredible to listen to. You have made a really rotten day for me turn around and end on a wonderful note. More More More from you please ! (John in Phoenix)
I imagine the source from which "the parts w/out vocal" came, were used (taken from) "The Original Master Karaoke-Best of the Best" CD which Richard mixed and remastered for the Japan release back in the early 90s. It's the only known exact copy karaoke of Carpenters out there and very rare and now out of print. I own a copy which a traded years ago for another equally rare item. Mr. Joe? who operated the Carpenters fan club at the time (pre-internet) was a great guy and he traded it with me.
I think that Karen would be stunned by this mix.. You took her " all time favorite song" and breathed new life into it... I had a lump in my throat after hearing this... Very Well Done... Thank you...
es una joya!! hasta el mismo Richard estaría encantado con esta edición, te felicito, me hizo emocionar mucho ver a Karen con esa voz magnífica que tenía, me encantó el gesto que hace en 5:20. Una fan de los Carpenters desde Argentina
Awesome video, very well put together. The Carpenters are an all time classic. Karen was taken from this world way too soon. It's so sad that the children now days will never know of her talent. I feel blessed to have been born so that I could enjoy their music.
What a beautiful work of art-celebrating a duo who changed the course of popular music. This is so wonderful. Wherever one goes in the world and one of her songs comes on- everyone stops to listen.-Everyone knows who is singing. There will never be another Karen Carpenter. Thankyou for this.
@33455432 I hate hate hated the part when her voice diminishes. My heart just breaks for this talent that is never to be matched again. i must give whoever, whomever did this mix, kudos! I have never been so moved by ANY other.
I love love love how you have done the logo treatment here. That your handy-work? The whole thing is teriffic - but I wanted to particularly compliment you on the magical treatment of the introduction.... Kudos - and thanks so much!
Have to agree with all the comments, beautifully presented, such rare footage , for a moment I felt as though I was in heaven, maybe I was.
I often wondered if Richard wrote these songs with Karen in mind, when you think about the circumstances around Karens life and how she felt about herself the songs reflect very much her life and her sadness. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to listen to perfection.
That was so unbelievable. Thanks so much !! I can't even find the words right now to describe my feelings after watching this. Thanks, thanks, thanks !!
Wow, I thought this was a high end production done by Richard Carpenter himself with millions of dollars being employed. Here I find someone did this as perhaps a hobby. AWESOME JOB on the video, motownboy !!!!!! Hearing just the instrumental part of this song really shows just how beautiful this song is but Karen singing it , puts it over the top.
With the original video and the stage version, I was always surprised it was never included in the videos officially released. After all, it was Karen's favorite Carpenters song. Thanks you for this; I just wish I could download it.
To quote Karen in an interview in 1976 she said at the moment "I Need To Be In Love" was her favorite song. I would guess to say that by 1977 her favorite song was probably something from the album "Passage" and by the time of her passing her favorite was probably something from her solo album.
@ctbear26 On their official website, Richard said he hated that video calling it The Love Plane or something and this is why it's never seen the light of day on any of their releases.
Very well done! Thanks for sharing. Favorited!

Absence of Karen’s voices, shows that Richard’s thoughts of his sister. He did not smile, played alone in this popular swan song.
