Just get the cheapest Mac Mini and ugrade the processor and give it 4gb of ram [will only see 3gbs though], and add a different hard drive, they have 320gb 7200rpm hard drives for around 150$, and 4gbs of ram should only cost around 100$, look what processors people swap in, I think 2.4ghz, but im not sure which one.

Or just buy the cheap one, and upgrade it when you need a little more power.

Nope, should support 3gbs, just like my macbook. The hardware can support more, I think 8gb, but not really much of a point in having that much ram with integrated graphics, unless youre running a server.

OK, I have just checked and the mac mini can support up to 3GB but the mother board can support up to 4GB of ram, even though the system can't really benefit from it.....

in my opinion mac mini sucks!!!! with the intel GMA950 with only 64mb of ddr2 ram...

it would be cheaper to buy an old imac from ebay...

The form facotr of the mini is the only advantage. Excellent to use in a home theater. But yeh, the mini needs a face lift for sure. I wouldn't mind having a mini, I might pick one up on ebay at some point if I can get one for under 300$, because as I said, processor upgrades are fairly straight forward, and I can put a bigger hard drive or an external one and it would be great hooked up to my TV to watch movies on it

you can't get the newer, intel only, logics on the powermac g5. So, macbook should be okay, just get at least 2 gb's of ram.

now the mac pro supports 64GB RAM. yes chipset sorry, I was also doing some homework and wasn't really reading it right, just like you did. the macbook supports 4GB RAM as i had that in mine

lol HP & Dell laptops, there like the most UGLIEST things in creation. My macbook has a webcam standard, I dont need to use an anti virus, trays are not better they can just snap off and stuff, and what stuff these days is really stored on mini disks. so you haven't really torn it to shreds, since there all the problems I have had with windows when i used it.

Um...have u looked at one lately? At least i can get my dell in different colors! And my Hp can have diff designs and colors. Macs only come in 1 color and design buddy.  Also, webcams come standard on all dell and hp laptops, pluss they are both faster and cheaper. lol ur a dick head!

here are the issues with Windows

1. Horrible GUI, doesn't look appealing in anyway

2. Poor driver support for cameras & printers etc

3. Many applications just crash while loading up

4. On new PC's preinstalled software is useless or on a trail

5. Vista uses up way too much ram.

6. The viruses out for the PC are just a joke

1.The vista gui is more intuitive and pretty than Mac OSX. and vista came out before Leopard and they had clear windows before mac thought about it.

2. I have absolutely no problems with my drivers at all, in fact, most of them were already in vista.

3.thats the developers (such as ADOBE) fault, not microsoft.

Mac OS X 10.0 had transparency that came out in 2001, The pull down menus in the menu bar along the top have always been transparent, Microsoft copied that idea and called it Areo, Apple have used Aqua since the public beta of OS X in 2000

All PC's run vista terrible no matter what machine you have it will always slow down. I have an 8 Core Mac pro, with 4GB RAM installed vista in boot-camp and it just ran so slow. I decided to take it off instantly and shredded the vista disk so other people couldn't discover the horror of vista. Good thing i didn't pay for it, my relative works for a graphics design company and they had ordered too many copies of vista, they tried vista, they all hated now there using Macbook pro's and iMacs lol

That is very FALSE. Unless you have a 5 year old computer, it will run vista perfectly fine. I ran vista on my 4yo machine very quickly. Something has to be seriously wrong with your Mac Pro.

First of all, its black, not brown. And second of all you can change the color of everything in windows without a 3rd party program. you ae misinformed, you probly never touched vista, i ues it everyday! Mac osx IS BROWN! BTW! Each os does what it is suppsed to do, so u cant comare them. Its all what u keed a comp to do. And Macs have there share of problems as well. Macs are much better systems Apple have won 6 black pencil design awards you don't here of UGLY dell winning anything like that . my mac is more compatible than PC's as it can run mac apps & windows apps inside OS X with an application called crossover mac. This is so mac fans don't have to install windows. There is also nothing on the PC platform to compete with iLife in ease of use and price. PC'S are slower more unreliable thats why there cheaper makes sense.

he has to buy a display with the mac mini, so he is screwed anyways, he might as well buy the 20" imac which will suffice to do what he needs. I recommend he starts offf with Iphoto to begin with, then download th trial version of aperture 2.0 and then make a decision

Yeah Mac mini is plenty fast enough for Aperture 2. I run it fine on a MacBook Air - everyone said it wouldnt run - but its fine ( obviously slower than on my iMac ) but its very useable. i couldnt say the same for Aperture 1.5 though.
