  • Heel strike

  • NOOB!

  • Improper running technique. Strike on the forefoot, or ball of your foot, not the heel.

It's simple, put on a pair of vibrams and run using your ball of your foot for strike area. If you can only run 1 mile like that, then you can only run 1 mile, don't be stupid and hurt yourself.

  • The whole purpose of these shoes is to not heel strike. If you want to keep using them, you'll have to relearn how to run properly, or else face potentially worse injuries than those from padded shoes.

  • haha why buy those shoes if you're going to heel strike? try some merrells it seems like they make you run on the balls of your feet! but you my friend should get some brooks ghosts!!!!!

  • wear real shoes if you are going to run like that, please....

  • That was about as Mid-foot as it gets.

  • It's really not that severe of a heel-strike, assholes.

  • The way your foot landed looked painful.

  • Fail.

  • why did so many people dislike this........ its exactly what it said it was in the title

  • @MyAndydany wrong form. You're not supposed to land on your heel. It's really hard on your knees and hips to run this way.

  • The difference between bitching weightlifters and bitching runners is that one is usually bigger than the other. That's about it. Ignorance begets ignorance, so just ignore it and let the haters hate.

  • Oh, and Pose is for people who lack hip flexors and are content with having restricted ankles. The entire idea of wearing vibrams (or any barefoot shoe far that matter) is that you can land anywhere that will result in the smallest chance of injury for YOU. I personally toe run with my left foot but land almost dead center and further back with my right due to a leg length difference. Works for me, but probably won't work for someone without a longer right leg. If he's injury free, why not?

  • What probably people here doesn't know is that Bikila (won the Olympic marathon barefoot) himself was what you would refer to as a "heel striker", where he landed more or less on the very back of the 5th metatarsal , very much like this fellow. The most crucial things are how quickly one can get their foot into the flat position (to absorb shock) and how far under your center of gravity you can get the foot when your fully loading it. Landing a bit farther back is okay, IF you can do both

  • @TheQuietObserver01 Yeah, Bikila had a dorsiflex ankle at landing, where the lower leg was perfectly vertical. Theres a lot of runners that do this. Its not the best style for speed but works for long distance races. The guy above doesnt do it very well. hes way over striding and the pulling back to save it, but in the mean time hes having to bounce up and down to accomplish it. He needs higher knee lift to fix it. then he could put his foot straight down instead of straightening his leg.

  • @jecnunez

oh weightlifters. They think the things they do are hard. That's so cute. ^.^

  • *toe

  • Bad technique. Run tow heel or you'll mess up your feet

  • @jecnunez: Saying the words "pussy with no endurance" proves you are an idiot and makes me wonder if you dropped a bar on your head during one if those amazing workouts of yours. Inventing oxymorons and thinking they are wise makes you a moron.

  • missed the whole point of the shoe!

  • Don't your feet hurt after that?

  • Yeah that is a heal strike technique. Not the best for Vibram running. Don't your feet hurt after a run?

  • Running is for pussies anyway.

  • @jecnunez wow dude, thats an understatement, how about running a 50K nonstop

  • @CrazyHermit That makes you a pussy with a lot of endurance.

  • @jecnunez then whats your definition of courage and fun? you tell me, ive seen hotshots who think running is for wussies die out there just jogging. you tell me man, you don't have to be fast, you got to be fearless. tell me any other sport thats enduring and more mental than running. tell me what sport brings out the smile and joy of the human spirit. you tell me man

  • @CrazyHermit Being near the end of a volume training day, staring at a bar loaded with weight that every fiber in your being beckons to forget about. Walking up to it, and after gathering every last bit of yourself, forcing yourself to unrack the bar, squatting past parallel, and pushing with everything in you to get that bar up. And having to do it again and again until the set, and the work out, are over. I respect sprinters. Long distance running... Sure it takes mental toughness, but MEH

  • @jecnunez im gonna have to say you're the pussy with NO endurance, and no drive or will to get better at it because it hurts, or because you get tired. oh wahh. if you can squat 400lbs and run 100m in 10 seconds, you obviously must be in good shape. but on the other hand, if you can squat 300lbs and run 50K nonstop then that just makes you a pussy. i see where you're coming from now.

  • @jecnunez Cool story, bro

  • @jecnunez You should try interval training running for 5miles non-stop, which is; sprint (as fast as you can) for 1minute, then jog for 30 seconds to recover. Repeat this until you have ran 5miles.

PS if it feels too easy, then you are not sprinting fast enough.

  • Record yourself running one step and put it on you tube? BLARRGGH YOU HAVE TERRIBLE FORM YOU SHOULD JUST QUIT YOU'LL NEVER BE ANYTHING BASLDAS.

    Seriously people, calm down.

  • Please check out the running videos on my channel

  • I think this dude was doing a heel strike on purpose to fabricate a point. Looking at it makes me feel pain

  • Heel strike? There is someone who does not understand nothing..

  • @pololivet

what do you mean? isn't he heelstriking?

  • horrible

  • The purpose of the shoe was so you wouldnt hit heel first

  • You can see the shock run up your whole leg...

  • yea right midfoot strike, more like flat foot, should be running in air force ones strike.

  • all the people saying you need a mid-fot strike. your opinions are out dated. the latest specialists are now saying whatever style suits you best is the style for you. the faster you go the more you will land on your midfoot, the slower, the more on the back of your foot. besides, this is pretty much a mid-foot strike.

so all you wannabe sub- 2 minute runners please hush.

  • @avenged7xguitar 800m you cretin...

  • @gobbychard Chill with the names bro. All i've been doing is training for the mile lately, so that's what I thought of. Sorry.

  • You landed more on the heel.

  • That was not a mid-foot strike..

  • looks like that's gonna hurt if he keeps running like that

  • ... Why are you guys saying terrible technique, Forefoot strike, and Heel strike, while completely missing the fact that he is (almost) perfectly doing a Mid strike?

  • That looks painful...

  • I love the part where its in slow motion.

  • Running all wrong, you're not meant to heel strike!

  • @MrOllympic Go out side and run barefoot for five minutes. You will notice you forefoot will strike first then to heel which distributes the energy. Hence build muscles and reducing injuries from heel strike. Your statement makes you look firkin retarded and full of ignorance.

  • this video is clearly a heal strike as the front of the foot is going up as you prepare to land on the heel..

  • this video shows a real forefoot strike, this video is clearlya heal strike as the front of the foot is going up as you prepare to land on the heel..

  • my legs hurt just from watching this video :O

  • Comment removed

  • You have to land on your forefoot, we are designed to do that but because of the normal running shoes with very thick soles you are used to land on your heel/hindfoot. But that is very bad for your foot if you do that while wearing VFF's. It is proven by many many researchers!

  • i have two pairs one is the kso and the other the sprints but i have try to run with them over a mile and i have allways ended up with shin splints however sprints and short distance running is great idk why but i dont have the same problem with asics running shoes anyone has any tips on that

  • ugh, look at all that knee impact *shudders*

  • exactly..just get some regular shoes. The barefoot technique is shorter strokes with a forward landing (not on the ball). This video shows the heel slamming down..not good.

  • calling it horrible technique is pretty unfair when the only thing you are looking at is the foot strike... there's a lot to consider such as the motion of the leg swing, arm swing, pelvis orientation and so on

  • GUYS, READ THE COMMENTS. HE ALREADY SAID HE WAS OVER-STRIDING TO FIT HIS FOOT IN THE FRAME. YOU DON'T HAVE TO THROW A SHIT FIT HERE.

    Okay, sorry. Just saying.

  • @sec0f111

Then what is the point of the video if he can't do it right?

  • @heathmoor

fuck knows. but still this looks like a midfoot strike to me. he's just dorsiflexing like a mofo lol. whereas some guy below is recommending you plantarflex like a mofo. you're all idiots.

  • @sec0f111

You seem unable to write a line without being impolite.

BTW, I dare you to plantarflex, subnormal (i.e., retarded).

  • enjoy your knee injury!

  • Try not slapping your foot on the ground.

  • hahaha agreed horrible tec

  • n00b

  • the thing here in this video thats bad isnt so much the heel strike as he's majorly pushing off with his toes. hes gonna get bad blisters after about a mile of running.

  • I have some VFF shoes and I have to say I think at least 3/4 of what you here is unadulterated BS. If you have to put that much thought into something like running then there is something wrong.when you were a baby and learned to walk you you just did what felt natural. its a normal thing for people to push off with there toes when they run. the human body was not designed to run on hard pavement without support. if you look at the ancients olympians ect they ran on dirt not concrete.

  • @ryrides "Ancient Olympians" didn't even have concrete to run on. More like stone streets.

  • look at runryrorun's comment. the answer to your people's fears are there.

  • heel strike = death

  • god damn this video makes me cringe...

    the horror... the horror....

  • bad form my friend

  • You're supposed to land on your forefoot and not your heal.

  • hahaha 19 dislikes :)

I dislike your running technique too

  • I have to concur with everyone else here. That is a heel strike.

  • yikes! that hurt just watching it :/

  • You guys are retards. You can't even heel strike is those shoes, it's not physically possibly(unless you don't feel pain).

  • GET OFF YOUR HEELS!!!

  • FAILLL!!

  • I think you are slightly overstriding, and the toes are pointing sligtly upwards. A relaxed foot should land with the forefoot just before the heel.

  • Wrong!

  • heel strike......OUCH

  • work on your calf flexibility and take smaller strides until you have the proper running form

  • that was not then right way to do it, right? Ainjt supposed to land front-foot??

  • heal-strike in vibrams.. ouch !

  • These things sound so cool when your running in them (on your fore-foot the way you're supposed to), you just year little pats on the ground... Kinda like a ninja

  • You need to try running about a mile in them or barefoot to get it right. The other commenters are right. You are landing on your heel.

  • i think you're supposed to land on the ball of your foot

  • like others said, bad running right there, it's a different technique altogether.

to learn it right, go run barefoot on gravel/dirt roads, u'll get the hang of it in no time!

  • MY feet hurt when I watch that...

  • u might as well just buy regular running shoes if you're going to run like that.

  • @joeyyowee Agreed - you can see the heel hitting first. Ouch!

  • @joeyyowee seriously, way to like PURPOSELY heel strike

  • @joeyyowee That is actually me running in the video, when we were filming this we (all of us running) had trouble getting out feet to land directly in the center of the camera. The slight heel strike (it's not as bad as it looks of first glance, the shadow makes it look like I've hit before I actually have) is a result of over-striding to try to center the strike in frame.

  • @runryrorun Looking at it again it wasn't even that bad compared to how I run.

  • @joeyyowee I agree. gives me plantar fasciatis just looking at it. but then I didn't really get the forefoot stride correct till I saw Avatar :)

  • @Ascendiary2012 or you could just run completely barefoot ;)

  • im with crapiecorn on this, you are gonna end up with more problems using the VFFs like regular shoes, you should run on the balls of your feet, using the VFFs running heel to toe, you'll end up with shin splints, and other problems

  • terrible technique

  • Word

  • @crapiecorn I'm a distance runner, not a long jumper, and even long jumpers get a board that they can see :). You're right I am heel-striking; but that's due to overstriding to try to align my foot-strike in frame. As you can see, the strike occurred well in front of my center of balance, as a result of overextending to try to make the shot. When I'm aiming to land on an invisible mark on the ground, it make running naturally quite difficult. Basically yes: I messed this one up.

  • @crapiecorn not so the 5 fingers make you run in a more natural position. You are not meant to land on your heel. Your foot should land flat and the natural arch of the foot takes the shock. It is running shoes that are unnatural.

  • @EverywhereVirtually Actually there is great debate over this new trend of landing flat foot. The very description you give is of a foot slapping the ground taking great impact and riding up the shins. When you land heel first you can roll off your foot in a back to front motion and minimize impact.

  • @muffemod that rolling is putting all force in ur knees. u clearly havent done much research in your own about this have you? omg....recommending landing HEEL first? jesus fucking christ. and the flat foot thing in also wrong. its landing on the 3rd and 4th metatarsi first rolling inward towards the ball then gently letting the heel down but as little as possible. all of this while moving farward.

  • @d3v0n2534 I'm not going to debate slapping flat footed vs rolling smoothly. Enjoy your injuries.

  • @muffemod havent had any in the 3 years sense i began barefoot running, so thank you but i will enjoy my good health instead

  • @d3v0n2534 whether you're right or not gets lost in the language. take a pill.
