@starbase121 Clearly there was a strong nostalgia for the '70s in the '90s, and there was reason. The '90s (and still today) are all about minimalism- showing what's important rather than show what's exciting and fun.
I wonder how many repeat viewers ABC was able to snag for over two decades simply on the back of that skier getting ruined on the slope while the narrator rattled off "agony of defeat" over top. Granted you can't see that clip much anymore in this intro, but the fact that it outlasted all the other clips they use seems to say something...
