Comments on style, and who does what,is not what the martial arts is all about. If everyone fought like pinna, brennen, biamonte, but to name a few the sport would be more popular than football and the venues would be packed out.Its not , so we just have to get on with it .The problem i have is when you have (more complex ) black belt grading , its kihon kata with a few kicks. That should not even enter into a black belt grade.some students are better than others ,but respect to all, OSS
Mr.btk, 1st and foremost a true Martial Artist would NOT put someone down because of their age and/or gender. 2nd When did you start training versus when did the Lady start her training? 3rd Please learn how to spell the correct words you want to use! 4th You are either a lowsy student and/or you have a lousy instructor .... a True Teacher would NOT let you get by with comments like you have posted. I say these with all due respect.
i know everyone knocks GKR and im sorry for adding to it. surely the whole point of putting a potential shodan through taikyoko shodan is that they should show the abilty of true kihon....... (basic punch and stance. moving through zenkutsu dachi with gyaku-tzuki is taught from the beginnning_) please teach stronger hara .... OSS?
that old lady should go back and train more befor going for black belt how would she going spr with the young girls going 100% if i train like that my Sensei would not let me go up for any gradings but i dont i tran needle ever day when im not working and im a red belt now i only have 2 mouth two go for brown not beeing rude just two point that out if she is sick u should not be trainig if she not 100% as u cant traning any good if u sick
This session is barely on par with green belt gradings from other styles. I started doing GKR on the Gold Coast when we only had 12 members here. Now there's thousands....quantity is not quality and I feel sorry for those practising GKR who are gaining a false sense of security in their self defence abilities. I have seen GKR compete against styles who normally do full conact and they can't handle the intensity of real combat. Incorporate some full (safety) combat for your own credibility guys.
The dark heard youngster in the front rank has a sharp and strong technique but he opens his hands during the Kata which he should not do! Just shows though the younger you are; its a big advantage!
i guess so, but after 4 hours of grading i reckon the standard probably would slip a little, but i bet theyre all fantastic in their own classes any other time
@Entropy102 I used to teach for GKR and quit when they tried to double grade me from 2nd kyu to Shodan. This style is a big money making venture which lacks value in traditional, staunch practices. They are non-contact (which defeats the purpose of training), and they only want to grade all these people to collect the grading fee & expand their 'empire.' Clever business concept but useless in practical application of the art. You've probably had them knock on your door at some point. All about $
@OzKenshi i used to do rheetaekwondo 5 years a ago i quit as i here there kicking ppl out who cant break boards and cant train any good if you are 1st grad and have the wong mine and have long hair and lot of Tattoos and cant teach . so i lift and there i want be two buy boads all the time just two so if can do all the breaks two go for black belt so lift i know what a scam and what not imdoing gkr karate do it look realy good and i seen Sensei Gavin Samin and Shihan there look realy good
@OzKenshi I agree however why the hell did you stay until you were ranked 2nd kyu? I left when I was 6th kyu as I got bored an wanted to do contact, I felt limited to what I could an could not do and now I'm back to white belt training with Ishinryu which was founded in Dagenham.
In GKR they don't allow you to sweep people until your brown belt which is really stupid and they don't allow you to do any open hand attacks or blocks.
@OzKenshi The style is so bad that Ishinryu is similar in some ways as the style is also based on Wado Ryu an Shotokan like GKR. They teach you the reason for every strike within the basics in detail, so you understand and they don't try to simplyfy the katas an there is a reason why Saifa is a black belt kata in my style and many other styles, I tried it and it is so much more complicated an more movements than GKR an the Ishinryu verion of Saifa is the traditional method and not watered down
@princelucifer86 I actually trained in Combat IsshinRyu on the Gold Coast, and even attended a seminar with 10th Dan Gary Alexander...awesome experience. Much better, practical style.
@OzKenshi Yeah what I do isn't IsshinRyu its IshinRyu there's a bit of a difference there IshhinRyu is a good style though. You can wiki the founder Ticky Donovan for more info on that....

Were those black belts that were using only their arms to punch/block and only their legs to kick? :S
