This scene is actually a edited version of the clip. They cut to his sons a few times when he is hacking the last dude up. Another is they cut to the younger son when he throws his axe at the soldier thats holding Gabriel. The unedited version shows a close up with the axe in the guys face.
Well, he had three muskets and a few pistols. His sons must've been really well trained, too. It's a shame that the nice officer from the last scene died, though. The one that wanted to spare all everyone :-(
The British Army was the best at blatant war. Walking in formations and all that bullshit. They didn't know the land as the colonists did. They didn't know shit about Guerrilla warfare, and they certainly didn't know Mel Gibson was coming for them.
Brits didnt lose because of their training standards, that was winning the war for them initially. They lost because the French, Spanish and Dutch helped the Americans win the war. I was really a French victory (soldiers, ships, money, COMPETENT COMMANDERS). The Americans cant really claim victory when they lost all of the battles horribly that werent supported by european powers. Also, european styles of warfare were designed for open field combat not closed quarters and rough terrain of US.

okay well its only about a 30yd shot and the soldiers are dumb enough to just sit there and not run and hide at least, as for reloading, soldiers were supposed to reload 3 times in 15 sec, last i checked mel gibson in this movie was a soldier so it does make sense...i agree with not being able to kill 20 though
Those two boys, probably about 10 and 12 years old, were far better trained and mentally tougher than the clueless Brit conscripts. These two boys had been schooled since the age of 5 in firearms handling, since their family's survival -- for defense and for food, depended on this skill. They could've shot the eyes out of squirrels at the same range as the soldiers passing by. Very easy shots. The end result of the encounter was not impossible, not even improbable.

Great movie!! And I just love that it pisses off so many people. LOL!! Hardly anyone has the balls these days to show kids shooting guns, too. Hard to believe this is from the same guy who gives us crap like "10,000 BC" and "2012" nowadays, though.

well, the english had us outgunned, but we got them, by fighting like the natives. the brits would actually send notes to the various colonial generals, telling them to come out and fight like gentlemen.

yep. my personal favorite battle b/n the english and the us is not even in the revolutionary war. i love the battle of new orleans. yes the war had been over for 2 weeks, but andrew jackson and jean lafitte didn't know that. but, to be fair, andrew jackson hated the british, felt they had killed his family, probably murdered a scotsman who lived in st.marks, florida and traded with the natives. but, the battle of new orleans was amazing.

my favorite battle isnt in the revolution either. Mine is in the Civil War which was nicknamed the battle above the clouds on lookout mountain. Im from the South but i hate the confederate army thank God the Union won

@tranurse... in the french and indian war, william pitt (who would go on to be the prime minister to pass the sugar act i think) taught the british forest warfare (like mel gibson is doing now) because the indians had taught the french. i think it's ironic that the british weren't shown using FW in this movie because they all knew how :P

but, for some reason they didn't use forest warfare. as late as the war of 1812,the british general was sending notes to andrew jackson demanding that he fought like a gentleman. and yes, some british generals did fight 'dirty' so to speak, but a lot didn't.

This scene is actually a edited version of the clip. They cut to his sons a few times when he is hacking the last dude up. Another is they cut to the younger son when he throws his axe at the soldier thats holding Gabriel. The unedited version shows a close up with the axe in the guys face.

Well, he had three muskets and a few pistols. His sons must've been really well trained, too. It's a shame that the nice officer from the last scene died, though. The one that wanted to spare all everyone :-(

The British Army was the best at blatant war. Walking in formations and all that bullshit. They didn't know the land as the colonists did. They didn't know shit about Guerrilla warfare, and they certainly didn't know Mel Gibson was coming for them.

Those guns take time to reload. It kinda breaks morale when your CO gets shot and you have no idea who shot em. Causes a bit of a panic
Also, the British army were about rules, discipline, and formation. That's why the lost. Read a book.
I will say that those guns were nowhere near that accurate.

Brits didnt lose because of their training standards, that was winning the war for them initially. They lost because the French, Spanish and Dutch helped the Americans win the war. I was really a French victory (soldiers, ships, money, COMPETENT COMMANDERS). The Americans cant really claim victory when they lost all of the battles horribly that werent supported by european powers. Also, european styles of warfare were designed for open field combat not closed quarters and rough terrain of US.

french helped but your saying that the americans did shit, i guarantee you if it was just the french vs the british, the french would have been decimated. but yea, if it werent for your money and soldiers, we would have had like a 5% chance of winning. But it wasnt all foreign guys, it was mostly because ( yes the following part is a joke) the american diet was mostly squirell and whiskey and the british diet was tea and crumpets.

yes the french would lose because it would be on european terms (using same tactics strategies etc, and this is where england really prevails at the time). at least you can see the whole picture of the revolution and i applaud you for that, since many people dont research beyond the glossing that goerge washington and american colonists that won the war, when there were so many more issues at hand enjoyed the squirrel and whishkey bit lol

thanks lol, they whiskey and squirell bit is what my old history teacher used to say. WAAY back in 8th grade. But you would think that if the brits were so damn awesome and clever, they would have adapted to the fighting conditions and learned how to counter guerilla tactics.

hey, i agree with you about american beer. sam adams and some of the microbrews are pretty good. but for the most part, i drink guiness and stella artois. i like good beer, but will drink a corona in a pinch. and i love, love, love pale ale. newcastle is my favorite. and i'm american. but, i have a 2 drink minimum, simply because i don't want to wake up feeling like dirt, and i don't like to act stupid.

It's so good... But it's not possible. 20 well-trained and well-armed red coats fighting a man and his five year old sons. You can't even reload that fast... And how can your little son kill a few men alone? They didn't even miss one shot. Good movie, though.

okay well its only about a 30yd shot and the soldiers are dumb enough to just sit there and not run and hide at least, as for reloading, soldiers were supposed to reload 3 times in 15 sec, last i checked mel gibson in this movie was a soldier so it does make sense...i agree with not being able to kill 20 though

Those two boys, probably about 10 and 12 years old, were far better trained and mentally tougher than the clueless Brit conscripts. These two boys had been schooled since the age of 5 in firearms handling, since their family's survival -- for defense and for food, depended on this skill. They could've shot the eyes out of squirrels at the same range as the soldiers passing by. Very easy shots. The end result of the encounter was not impossible, not even improbable.
