Shiko plays a large variety of solos from this to Madilu's songs to name it.....he is new fresh talent there is something he always adds to copyright solos he plays...check him out in other songs
@ Scott.....Shiko plus Lokassa plus Nguoma thats a great lineup of the best guitarists in Congo even today......added to Malage and Jonal.....the song is as fresh as ever.........
There are no fans of this music in America. This is a great live band put together for African music lovers but where are they? Folks took this for granted...
This song brings back a partuclar memory (I am actaully crying now). One Xmas in the 70's my family was getting ready to go and my nan bu I had been grounded so could not go. I spent the whole afternoon listening to this song. I used to call it oh mado because it was the only word I could remeber then. Thanks for posting scottshuster.
This song reminds me my holiday in kisangani,in year 1974. It was a big hit at that time. I am grateful to the one who posted this video. it resurrected many things in my mind.
Many thanks Scott....I first heard soukous in 1980 as a scruffy 19 year old white boy travelling - very rough - through Sudan and Zaire and I guess it changed my life... I never looked back. After all these years the magic is all there. Man. This puts the biggest, warmest smile on my face!
Oh this is so cool -- check out Shiko Mawatu's guitar playing at 4:40, after I raise the height of the camera -- oh yeah -- it's OK Jazz-style (Franco) playing par excellence!! And then...at 6:50..the famous theme finally kicks in - ahh! "All right sah!!" says Malage. This is the best of 'world' pop music, right here....
Scott, thanks for the greatest videos I have ever seen,u r the man. Very very impressed with the play by play. I have some classic Franco video footage I d like to share
Glad you like it, Rextangle. It's the real thing. This was Malage's first evening in the US...he had just tumbled off the airplane - ! Both vocalists, Malage de Lugendo and Jonal, sang with OK Jazz. Hey everybody if you like this kind of music don't miss the big Kekele tour coming this summer -- visit africambiance.com for details. -- Scott
