  • He was one of wrestling's baddest bad asses.

  • damn, Hansen makes Dr. Tom look tiny

  • when I was like 10 years old Stan was a bad guy in Ga. At Cobb County civic center he would come out of the dressing room to watch the prelim bouts and I just went over and introduced myself and we talked adn became kind of friends..When he became a good guy and was surrounded by all the fans he would spot me and always acknowledge me.Just for being a cool guy he gained a lifelong fan in me.RIP Mr Hansen

  • @1steve726 Stan is alive and well.

  • @GShea That is great news!! I could have sworn he was dead. Then if that is so I retract the RIP and SCREAM: LONG LIVE STAN HANSEN!!!! :-)

  • is that Don Koss, who took over for Frank Bonnema in Pacific Northwest Wrestling when Bonnema passed away?

  • what a demolition. even though he did cheat to win. with a hundred lbs size advantage you better win, i don't care who you call champ

  • what year was this filmed?

  • Hate to be Tom Prichard here. In for a licking. Also the note on Hansen and AWA title for those who didn't know he ran over the title in his truck and left a dent in it so big they ordered the belt Lawler now own when he beat Curt for the AWA world title.

  • i wish someone would lick me..

  • tom pritchard aka ''brother love''!

  • Bruce Pritchard was Brother Love, not Tom.

  • wrong

  • He's no Leduc, he's better !

  • he came back in fall of 1983 and stayed 5 0r 6 weeks doing arena matches(no tv) feuding with Idol, and one tag w/ Ventura vs Idol and Lawler

  • Late 70's, early 80's Memphis had a decent run with a "Cowboy" Ron Bass/Jerry Lawler feud. He had a very similar character early on (same voice), and you can only have so many "Cowboys" that the fans want to see. Just my opinion, but I think his timing of being in Memphis was off, or maybe he just didin't like the teritory or Lawlers way of running things.I didn't see a date? Did Jimmy Hart manage him, was he one of Lawler's "one and done" matches building for the world title shot?

  • You are probably correct when saying Hansen did not fit in well in Memphis. He was the AWA champion in 1986 and refused to drop the title to Nick Bockwinkle, instead taking the title to Japan. He was later stipped of the title, but that gives you an idea of how headstrong he could be. Not to mention he probably could not make the kind of payday in Memphis that he could elsewhere.

  • It's not so much that Stan refused to drop the title to Nick, it's just that he was supposed to defend it for Baba in Japan and all of a sudden Verne wanted him to drop it to Nick before going to Japan.

He was supposed to wrestle Jumbo for the belt in Japan, it was advertised, and he didn't want to screw Baba out of an advertised title defense.

  • Its a shame he didnt wrestle exclusively in the U.S. He would have been huge but Im sure he made plenty of money in Japan

  • I think Lawler was legitimately afraid of Stan and thats why the Lariat didn't stick around in Memphis. Either that or they didn't pay him which also wouldn't surprise me.

  • LOL...Hansen is one of those guys who looked the part. You probably did not want to shoot a match with him. If you get a chance there is a match here on youtube with Abdullah and Hansen that is one of the bloodiest I have ever seen.

  • Probably the Brody tribute one right? Stan's actually a really nice guy, but you didn't want to fuck with him.
