Regulators Shutter Three U.S. Banks, Bringing 2009 Toll to 84-Dakin Campbell
Aug. 29 Regulators closed banks in California, Maryland and Minnesota yesterday, pushing U.S. bank failures to 84 this year amid continuing fallout from the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.
The Fed Deposit Insurance Corp. was named receiver for Affinity Bank of Ventura, California, Bradford Bank of Baltimore and Mainstreet Bank of Lake Forest, Minnesota, after yesterdays closings, the FDIC said. "
So, as Obama said. He inherited this steaming pile of shit from the GOP. The give it to the country in the ass party. Aside from the GOP HOPING FOR THE NATION TO COLLAPSE, Obama is doing his best, thank you.
Iraq a success? What the fuck? What did we succeed at there? Killing 4,500 of our troops and 1.3 million innocent Iraqi civilians? President Obama is adhering to bush's SOFA agreeement. Iraq was an illegal, immoral, and needless war. We might as well have sent an invitation to every country in the world to feel free to attack us if you THINK we have weapons of mass destruction. 1. Surge? If we didn't illegally invade Iraq, there wouldn't have been a "surge."
2. No, the American people were lied to in regard to Iraq at a time when we were full of anger and fear. Makes bush's lying to us 100 times worse, he played us. Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11 and we would have been out of Afghanistan by now if we hadn't dicked around in Iraq. Surge again? Ridiculous! Con't!
4. President Obama did say that Afghanistan was the war of necessity. It still is. I think it is wise for him to get a lot of opinions on bringing troops in. When you only rely on an opinion from a General, you must realize that the General is going to ALWAYS say he needs more troops. I don't think a General in US history ever advised the President he needed LESS troops. We are talking here about the lives of our children. I would want robust discussion if my child was there!
Lastly, regular folks out there don't think for themselves anymore. They don't read. They don't even listen when the President is talking. And these Grahams out there like to intentionally edit-out what was just explained, and re-insert phrases that are ment to scare. To frighten. OMG, they're gonna nationalize the banks! Morons, there'll be a TEMPORARY taking over of day-to-day operations of failing banks, and industries ON THE VERGE OF COLLAPSE so that thousands wont lose their jobs! Get it!?
This guy just combines the worst elements of fake conservatism that has hoodwinked religious conservatives in SC. He has always padded his pockets with "MIlitary Keynsianism" and now calls for banking "Keysianism", yet he attacks those that have real solutions such as Ron Paul cause RP doesn't think we should have 752 military Keynsian bases all over the planet. Graham just makes fascism seem Republican when it should be refuted and blamed as the cause of the major losses in the last election.
For all of the ignorant fools screaming 'National those Sons of *****s!' Consider that nationalizing our banks would effectively put all banks under the largest private bank in the West, the Federal Reserve. The Fed, and their facsist underlings like ACORN, are responsible for setting our insane Economic policy not most of the others.
You're funny. And obviously don't know what you're talking about. Nationalize our banks? Try taking control of INSOLVENT banks, and protecting their assets, YOUR assets, until they can stabilize the financial crisis that Bush birthed. What a psychotic moron you Repubs are! You advocate dumping Trillions in folks savings, investment nesteggs! Then what? The seniors can work at Walmart, moron? The GOP screws the nation by creating this fiscal trainwreck, then says LET THE BANKS FAIL. Pathetic!
I suppose BlackOps05 also thinks like all Republicans, that the entire Auto Industry in the nation should fail too? And all the ancillary shops and services that depend on the industry to fail too?? Hundreds of thousands MORE folks losing their jobs and futures, all because these incompetent Republican morons don't have a clue how to lead. We had Bush and Katrina. We had the big Bush/Saudi connection that did squat about gas prices. What's certain, these Republicans are a BIG ZERO at leadership.
If banks are nationalized, will they buy they be re-privatized on the up-turn to continue this doomed cycle? When does the tax-payer receive a stake in equity? We are always made to fail
nationalize those bastards! they have been screwing around with our money for far too long, that shit should be under public control. its not perfect but its a lot better than having it under the control of those unaccountable, self-interested bankers who have crashed the economy into the ground.
lol ..simply neo-con dribble. Its funny that the conservatives scream about how liberals will user in an age of "socailism" yet ignore the wolves in sheep's clothing like graham. that sickens me to my very core.
The conservatives I know understand where graham stands and we won't get near him. He's as trustworthy as anyone in washington. Don't condemn all conservatives on account of a few.
while i find generalizations and painting with a broad brush stroke, i dont think i condemned all conservatives. its simply what i have noticed. most conservatives i had ran into or hear on internet, TV( c-span, media etc) will bitch in a second( when ever a dem or liberal is in power) about how we will end up like socialist Europe ( lol europe is a mixed economy just like us) but will turn a blind eye to neo0con filth that is Graham and crew( Bush, Mccain etc)
i dont hear that much about how the 'Grahams and bushes' of the GOP are criticized with the same vigor and prowess as what conservatives ( con-talk radio etc) go after the libs with. The GOP is home to the very leftest they dislike ( neo cons) In the end the overall hypocrisy of GOP causes a rapturous of distaste in my gut. I have grown to dislike them more than i dislike dems... Now there are decent libs and cons but their parties esp. the GOP is a wreak ( an oozy pile of diatribe)
of course the fed will nationalize the banks! The major banks hold the majority of notes for consumer debt: mortgage notes, auto notes, student loan notes, credit card debt. Once the fed nationalizes the banks, americans become indebted to, and thus further controlled by, the federal govt. you think the banks are difficult to deal with in clearing your debt, you dont want to deal with the govt. this will be one of the largest transfers of power from citizens to the fed govt. in history. OWNED
WOW, WOW, WOW. Republicans are starting to wake up and realizing Nationalization of Bank is the ONLY thing left to keep our country from collapsing. I hope Obama does this soon so we can have a fast recovery.
His stimulus will do nothing to stop the collapse.
Ok Mr. Economist. You seem to be unaware of what nationalization does to freedom. When the government owns everything, they can decide if you cost too much.
Everyone started somewhere. Your assumption is that humans don't have the ability to persevere. These banks aren't necessary. Small local banks are going strong and have not failed. Failure is a result of bad management. People leave socialist states to live in America. You are just a liberal who has no understanding of the world. You try to think with your heart and end up thinking with your ass.
You say neo-con like its a bad thing. I'm a conservative with intelligence and vision. You are a weak liberal living in modern day Sodom who lives in his bubble but has never experienced the world. You claim to be wise on these issues but you have no knowledge of what life really is. Life isn't about bullshitting about what you say you know. It's about experience. Experiencing success, failure, poverty, and wealth.
Just ask the Ron Paul people if Neo-Con's are a bad thing. A Neo-Con is what u call a fake Christian, who worship a fake Jesus. Neo-Con's are warmongers, while Jesus was the Prince of Peace.
My Jesus brings peace to the world, not war and hate!!!!
What do Ron Paul have to do with anything? He isn't a real conservative. Think about it, most of America's wars were initiated by democrats. You don't know Jesus. The bible I read said god gives his blessed armies the power to smite his enemies. You don't know the bible.
Jesus is about peace. I read the bible. I know the gospels. But when you try to use Jesus as leverage in an argument you look like an idiot. You have a warped view of the world and you seem to not be able to understand complex problems in the psyche of humans.
Thebboss, any point you were trying to make was made moot by your mention of Jesus.
And yes, while most of the wars were initiated by democrats, keep in mind that it also stands true that the conservative parties throughout US History have started the most wars - The democratic party has largely been the conservative party for the larger part of US History.
Sen.-Graham you had a great week last week. Standing up against Pork-U-Lus, Hussein's {Obama's} road to more and more spending and socialism. And then you went and said this??? Come on man.... Lets get it together baby!.... Stay in the fight.... The Dow is down 200 points today! The Market's is on your side.
Graham for nationalizing banks ???what an A-hole. IT won't be long until he comes out of the closet and they find him in a bathroom with Larry Craig, lol
that sellout voted for the bailout to give the banks money with no accountablility and now he wants to nationalize the banks, which really means make the people susidize their failure and privatize the profits.
LET THE BANKS FAIL. LET THE MARKET WORK.
lyndsey grahm is a disgrace to the state of south carolina.
these are the same dummies who came up with deregulation that caused the mess in the first place. Graham Leach and Bliley Act of 1998. This monkey should finance the bailouts on his own, it was his great idea.
1. Government needs an organization that takes bad loan (in exchange for certain mandatory status) and restructure the loan so it becomes affordable for people to pay.
2. Mandatory disclosure of risky debts by the bank.
Obama is a fraud. No one knew anything about the man, really, but they sure wanted him into office after 8 years of "Republican" rule.
Regardless of whether they're Democrats or Republicans, the US Government is looking out for itself, & the two parties will defend each other if the people encroach on their power. It's time to really wake up to the truth.
Once upon a time in a village, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each.
The villagers seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest, and started catching them.
The man bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He further announced that he would now buy at $20.
However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on his behalf.
In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers. Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at $35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each.
Well, we in Canada have isolated ourselves from the American banks for some 10 years now and our banks came away unscathed. If nationalizing means to adopt a Canadian styled system where govt watches for shinanigans so be it. Its been proven that greedy fuckers cant be trusted.
Holy shit, this is only the ten-thousandth comment from some Canadian who thinks they're far more evoled & sophisticated than America is. What the fuck has happened to you people?
Do you know WHY we don't want to nationalize the banks? Better question: have you ever READ the United States Constitution?
Even better: have you ever read a history book that illustrates what happens with too much government?
We don't give a FUCK about what seems to "work" in Canada. We're trying to preserve the US.
Actually if you bother reading Canadian newspapers and watch the BBC or even CTV, you´ll realize that Obama is now developing a Canadian framework for American banking systems. He´s scheduled for a 3rd discussion on this in the up coming days. Its a done deal, man. Read, learn, and shut your ignorant cake hole.
"... Obama is now developing a Canadian framework for American banking systems."
*laughs*
Hey, thanks for the scoop. Why, I had NO idea Obama was planning this.
The reality is, you don't really understand the comment I made, you don't know history as we in America do, and you certainly have NO understanding of our Constitution & why it is set up the way it is.
*laughs again*
Time for you to shut your ignorant cake hole, read & learn.
The fact that you just said I voted for Bush says it all. i didn't vote for that criminal, & I also believe that Canada deserves it's own sovereignty. But people like yourself who maintain such confidence in government will lead Canada, the US, and Mexico together in a union, eventually. Regardless of how many times you vote it down.
I have NO interest of seeing all three countries merge. But if you don't understand how nationalizing our banks facilitates that then do you homework. We're done.
I don't see what the problem is. We (The Netherlands) have already nationalized one of our commercial banks (ABN AMRO) because of the economic crisis and we aren't even hit as bad as the USA! Everybody over here would be completely comfortable with it...
That's because you're not a "freedom loving American" - the idea of being free (the "principle") is more important than in fact being free (because you're healthy, literate, of a minimum income, etc.)
The U.S. has a long history of being selling citizens a lot of fear about "socialism" in any form - the word evokes images of the worst of the Soviet period. It doesn't occur to most Americans that all of their first world allies are, by definition, some shade of "socialist" - AND democratic.
Yep because of that America has not once but twice had to come and bail out the first world allies from a "socialist" hold put on them.
now that the EU has turn them socialist, but slowly and carefully. The people of the USA's first world allies have inbraced it. 100's of thousands of lives lost to get rid of it. But yet they blindly welcome it.
The big lie that has been sold in America by parasitic capital and speculators is that socialism is incompatible with democracy and civil liberties. It's all really just an apologetic for the "cult of Mammon" - a stunning conviction that avarice is unalterably the supreme guiding factor in human affairs.
In europe can anyone in every EU country, openly disresect Islam while out getting in trouble? Or be protected from Islamic nut cases? Own a gun anytime they want.
No socialism takes those and many other freedoms away. And for what? Free college? Great now Europe is full of educated dumbass's.
A lot of these countries have hate crime laws. I'm not especially fond of them. America already has them. They are not essential aspects of socialism, so you're just muddying the waters here. However, hate crime laws do not amount to there being no possibility of religious or social criticism - that is quite clear ("Muhammed cartoons", don't you remember)?
Weapons ownership isn't an inherent aspect of socialism either. You're really reaching here, as most Libertarian alarmists do.
Just to be clear - you won't get much argument from me on "hate speech" laws in and of themselves. I do, however, have a problem with the issue being tied to socialism in and of itself. It obfuscates the issue.
Btw. I don't advocate any particular political posture. I'm something of a "post-anarchism" anarchist anyway. But with that said, telling me about the failures of censorship or perceived correct/incorrect attitudes about weapons ownership does NOT address "socialism."
Socialists! Ahrg! Help us all, the socializing socialists are going to socialize us! Eeek! See, I told you those no good dirty democrats would... demo.... communist....Hey...Wait a minute! What the hell? Ain't that our republican talking point? What are we supposed to whine about now? Not wearing a tie? Well, OK...if Rush says so...
Because he's extremely influential. He was McCain's chief political advisor and sidekick, and he has got to understand that he is part of the problem and not the solution.
I think youll find the banks do not want to be nationalized, because nationalization actually means the Banks go into Chapter 11 the CEO's lose their jobs and the shareholders lose their money but the asset is not destroyed but control is given to the government who hire new people to run and can tighten the rules so none of these dodgy "financial products" can be sold, when the bank is healthy again they are sold back into the private sector. The bankers dont want this, they want a bailout
also watch the tpmtv interview with Joseph Stiglitz I saw him about a 2 years ago in Oxford and he predicted all this down to the last t. (I know Shiff predicted it to and I like him but he's not the only voice)
Well you're almost right. Most of the banks do not want to be nationalized. But you'll find that several do. The top 25 banks in the US, that have caused this trouble, that would fail without public money, that right now are getting TARP funds, that have helped elect the politicians pushing for this, whos executives also work form time to time in The Treasury Dept and The Fed do want this nationalization. This is nothing but the consolidation and control of the banking system.
But you're right, there's 100's of regional banks that don't want this. This is nothing more than making sure that the top 25 banks stay at the top 25 and to make sure that any real compitition from the regional banks is squashed. After all, if we let the top 25 banks fail, as they should for making such lousy investments, it would be the remaining regional banks to buy up those assets and move into those larger positions. The powers that be don't like compitition, they like socialist control.
again I dont think you get it what is meant by nationalization is letting the banks go into Chapter 11 which is letting them "fail." But unless you want everyones money which si invested in these banks to disapear they have to go under goverment control otherwise millions of people lose all thier money. But it still means the CEO's lose thier jobs dont get bonuses, and the shareholers lose thier money. But the small banks dont want to lose the money they have in these banks hence they must...
be put and federal control so the small banks who have thier money in the larger banks will not lose it. Sweden offers a perfectly good model on how to do this. It has also happended many times with the airlines yet this wasn't socialism. The banks arn't kept forever in goverment control but are sold, now being properly regulated, bank to the private sector, really watch Stiglitz
As the Illuminati says "Out of chaos comes order" The crisis is created so people will suffer and beg authorities to find a solution, any solution. Freedom is taken and a tighter grip on the masses in achieved. The problem is over and tyranny has won. This technique has been used for thousands of years because it works and we are the suckers. The economic crisis is the current crisis in a long chain of contrived crises The government is just making the crisis worse and agreeing with the solution.
of course we have to nationalize them. any idiot with any econ sense knows that. but political dummies on the right will try and derail it. and they'll further the pain.
ideologically we have some ridiculous flaws in r system. so this is always gonna repeat itself. we're always gonna have recessions and banks r gonna continue to get richer and continue to increase da citizens debt to them. it's called slavery. we work for money that we ultimately owe. with interest
I'm calling, writing, and visiting my state representative here in Texas and urging him to draft legislation to secede from the Union similar to the NH Congress bill HCR 6 if we continue this path of super-state socialism. Not to mention the enormous amounts of violations to the Constitution which are laws to govern the Federal government. Its time for all this bullshit in DC to end!
"Bureaucracy expands to meet the needs of the expanding bureacracy." - Oscar Wilde
Your states broke, so your fucked. Now, thanks to your tree-hugging fuck ups in your state, we are going to pass your GDP. We have guns, money, hotter bitches (who could whoop your ass and drink a beer doing it btw). We're better so fuck you!
Our GDP will always be higher than yours, given our investments in Infrastructure, the Tech Sector, and Education. The only reason we have a busted budget is because of those Republican Fucks.
We tree-hugging fuckups have completely usurped control away from the Fed when it comes to environmental regulations. You're welcome for the air.
The women of Texas can whip my ass while drinking beer anytime they like; they could probably use the male attention given you're busy cleaning all those guns.
"you're welcome for the air" haha like i give a damn about some phony global warming bs. its just an excuse for tree-fuckers to tax people. fuck the global warming hoax. your education is a joke. all you people care about there is what celeb is fuckin who and we're leading most states in alternative energy (bc we manage our money) oh yeah not to mention we have our OWN power grid that we don't share with you fuckheads. so don't call us when yall got rolling blackouts... again.
Why should we think that the government that gave us FEMA/Katrina and the lines at the Post Office could do a better job running banks than the private sector can?
This would mean more subsidies from the poor and middle class and anyone who pays taxes to the rich bank executives!
Hugo Chavez must be laughing so hard! We are following him right down to the ash heap of history.
"My rich banking friends are running out of way to bleed regular people dry so that they can buy even bigger fucking yachts. We think it's time to get the government involved so we can take tax money directly out of people's pockets and they won't have any way to stop us."
You do know that this is the same asshole that replaced The Glass-Steagal Act with his Graham-Leach-Bliley Act to supposedly help the banking industry and now he's the same guy calling for nationalization. This has been the plan all along and this guy is a full traitor the The US and The Constitution.
Now see, you don't want any challenges to comments you make and then you post this? Do you have any actual point to make on my comment or are you just a troll looking for attention?
That's because every action they take is for bigger and more intrusive government. Bigger government equates to socialism. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, guess what?
"Any action they do and people like you cry socolism. "
They cry "Socialism" because they are uneducated morons who heard that word on Fox News. Those who attempt to argue me down are just impotent feminized males who bitch worse than jilted girlfriends. I DON'T want to receive your whiny responses.
Would you listen to whiny impotent feminized BOYS if they told you what you couldn't or shouldn't do? I thought not. I don't either. Stop being whiny boy.
If you want to control who comments back to you then you better start your own channel and just stay there. Otherwise don't complain want someone challenges any of your smart alec or stupid comments.
Now both the Republican and Democratic parties are for socializing America. They are now officially the enemy of free markets and the American way of life.
Viva Chavez! Why the hell should we not be talking about nationalizing the banks? We have paid good money when the market wouldn't give them any more lucre. The federal government bought them with US tax funds. Why not assume ownership for what has already been paid out?
I don't think I would really be against this and here is why-Glass Stiegal. When this went away under Pres Clinton and Phil Graham-the whole idea of FDIC now must ensure these finance banks would at the least-be able to settle with their customers. To big to fail is more than a quainte idiom now in our vernacular-that wqas the way of life for these bankers because they knew if they blew it-our government must ensure they stay in business. 1. Obama campained on the "promise" that he would turn things around. He knew what he was taking on.
2. Iraq is now a success. If the military did what Obama wanted and retreated, Iraq would be more of a disaster.
3. Obama might be doing his best but he has to quit using the "blame game" as a reason why we're not out of this economy yet.

Banks need to fail at this to learn about moral hazard like joe six pack does learning a car at night with no headlights

The conservatives I know understand where graham stands and we won't get near him. He's as trustworthy as anyone in washington. Don't condemn all conservatives on account of a few.
UsualStaples 2 years ago
while i find generalizations and painting with a broad brush stroke, i dont think i condemned all conservatives. its simply what i have noticed. most conservatives i had ran into or hear on internet, TV( c-span, media etc) will bitch in a second( when ever a dem or liberal is in power) about how we will end up like socialist Europe ( lol europe is a mixed economy just like us) but will turn a blind eye to neo0con filth that is Graham and crew( Bush, Mccain etc)
Xenthoid 2 years ago
i dont hear that much about how the 'Grahams and bushes' of the GOP are criticized with the same vigor and prowess as what conservatives ( con-talk radio etc) go after the libs with.

Once the fed nationalizes the banks, americans become indebted to, and thus further controlled by, the federal govt. you think the banks are difficult to deal with in clearing your debt, you dont want to deal with the govt. this will be one of the largest transfers of power from citizens to the fed govt. in history. Ok Mr. Economist. You seem to be unaware of what nationalization does to freedom. When the government owns everything, they can decide if you cost too much.
Thebboss 2 years ago
Your Freedom will mean nothing if you have no job, your house is gone, and your on the streets homeless because of the economic collapse!!!!
How free u gonna feel now when ur on the street corner begging for money??????????
brovic777 2 years ago
Everyone started somewhere. Your assumption is that humans don't have the ability to persevere. These banks aren't necessary. Small local banks are going strong and have not failed. Failure is a result of bad management. People leave socialist states to live in America. You are just a liberal who has no understanding of the world. You try to think with your heart and end up thinking with your ass.
Thebboss 2 years ago
u don't know jack. ur a freaken Neo-CON man!!! Common. Give me a break.
brovic777 2 years ago
You say neo-con like its a bad thing. I'm a conservative with intelligence and vision. You are a weak liberal living in modern day Sodom who lives in his bubble but has never experienced the world. You claim to be wise on these issues but you have no knowledge of what life really is. Life isn't about bullshitting about what you say you know. It's about experience. Experiencing success, failure, poverty, and wealth.
Thebboss 2 years ago
Just ask the Ron Paul people if Neo-Con's are a bad thing. A Neo-Con is what u call a fake Christian, who worship a fake Jesus. Neo-Con's are warmongers, while Jesus was the Prince of Peace.
My Jesus brings peace to the world, not war and hate!!!!
brovic777 2 years ago 2
What do Ron Paul have to do with anything? He isn't a real conservative. Think about it, most of America's wars were initiated by democrats. You don't know Jesus. The bible I read said god gives his blessed armies the power to smite his enemies. You don't know the bible.
Thebboss 2 years ago
You obviously don't know the real Jesus.
You need to read the Gospels again and pray for God to open your mind and eyes to see the truth of the way of Jesus!!!!!!!
brovic777 2 years ago
Jesus is about peace. I read the bible. I know the gospels. But when you try to use Jesus as leverage in an argument you look like an idiot. You have a warped view of the world and you seem to not be able to understand complex problems in the psyche of humans.
Thebboss 2 years ago
Thebboss, any point you were trying to make was made moot by your mention of Jesus.
And yes, while most of the wars were initiated by democrats, keep in mind that it also stands true that the conservative parties throughout US History have started the most wars - The democratic party has largely been the conservative party for the larger part of US History.

1. Government needs an organization that takes bad loan (in exchange for certain mandatory status) and restructure the loan so it becomes affordable for people to pay.

Rata4You 2 years ago
This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.
Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms.
The offer increased to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it!
The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50!
Rata4You 2 years ago
However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on his behalf.
In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers. Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at $35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each.
Rata4You 2 years ago
The villagers rounded up with all their savings and bought all the monkeys.
Then they never saw the man nor his assistant ever again, only monkeys everywhere!

EmperorAtahualpa 2 years ago
That's because you're not a "freedom loving American" - the idea of being free (the "principle") is more important than in fact being free (because you're healthy, literate, of a minimum income, etc.)
The U.S. has a long history of being selling citizens a lot of fear about "socialism" in any form - the word evokes images of the worst of the Soviet period. It doesn't occur to most Americans that all of their first world allies are, by definition, some shade of "socialist" - AND democratic.
KosmicCitizen 2 years ago
Yep because of that America has not once but twice had to come and bail out the first world allies from a "socialist" hold put on them.
now that the EU has turn them socialist, but slowly and carefully. The people of the USA's first world allies have inbraced it. 100's of thousands of lives lost to get rid of it. But yet they blindly welcome it.
but now they are total slaves of the EU.
ANGLEBOOT 2 years ago
Which "allies" do you have in mind?
The big lie that has been sold in America by parasitic capital and speculators is that socialism is incompatible with democracy and civil liberties. It's all really just an apologetic for the "cult of Mammon" - a stunning conviction that avarice is unalterably the supreme guiding factor in human affairs.
KosmicCitizen 2 years ago
In europe can anyone in every EU country, openly disresect Islam while out getting in trouble? Or be protected from Islamic nut cases? Own a gun anytime they want.
No socialism takes those and many other freedoms away. And for what? Free college? Great now Europe is full of educated dumbass's.
ANGLEBOOT 2 years ago
A lot of these countries have hate crime laws. I'm not especially fond of them. America already has them. They are not essential aspects of socialism, so you're just muddying the waters here. However, hate crime laws do not amount to there being no possibility of religious or social criticism - that is quite clear ("Muhammed cartoons", don't you remember)?
Weapons ownership isn't an inherent aspect of socialism either. You're really reaching here, as most Libertarian alarmists do.
KosmicCitizen 2 years ago
Just to be clear - you won't get much argument from me on "hate speech" laws in and of themselves. I do, however, have a problem with the issue being tied to socialism in and of itself. It obfuscates the issue.
Btw. I don't advocate any particular political posture. I'm something of a "post-anarchism" anarchist anyway. But with that said, telling me about the failures of censorship or perceived correct/incorrect attitudes about weapons ownership does NOT address "socialism."

Then you agree and side with the bankers. Good for you. But they are still not going to invite you into there club.
mickeysears 2 years ago
I think youll find the banks do not want to be nationalized, because nationalization actually means the Banks go into Chapter 11 the CEO's lose their jobs and the shareholders lose their money but the asset is not destroyed but control is given to the government who hire new people to run and can tighten the rules so none of these dodgy "financial products" can be sold, when the bank is healthy again they are sold back into the private sector. The bankers dont want this, they want a bailout
bodah44 2 years ago
also watch the tpmtv interview with Joseph Stiglitz I saw him about a 2 years ago in Oxford and he predicted all this down to the last t. (I know Shiff predicted it to and I like him but he's not the only voice)
bodah44 2 years ago
Well you're almost right. Most of the banks do not want to be nationalized. But you'll find that several do. The top 25 banks in the US, that have caused this trouble, that would fail without public money, that right now are getting TARP funds, that have helped elect the politicians pushing for this, whos executives also work form time to time in The Treasury Dept and The Fed do want this nationalization. This is nothing but the consolidation and control of the banking system.
cont.
mickeysears 2 years ago 2
But you're right, there's 100's of regional banks that don't want this. This is nothing more than making sure that the top 25 banks stay at the top 25 and to make sure that any real compitition from the regional banks is squashed. After all, if we let the top 25 banks fail, as they should for making such lousy investments, it would be the remaining regional banks to buy up those assets and move into those larger positions. The powers that be don't like compitition, they like socialist control.
mickeysears 2 years ago
again I dont think you get it what is meant by nationalization is letting the banks go into Chapter 11 which is letting them "fail." But unless you want everyones money which si invested in these banks to disapear they have to go under goverment control otherwise millions of people lose all thier money. But it still means the CEO's lose thier jobs dont get bonuses, and the shareholers lose thier money. But the small banks dont want to lose the money they have in these banks hence they must...
bodah44 2 years ago
be put and federal control so the small banks who have thier money in the larger banks will not lose it. Sweden offers a perfectly good model on how to do this. It has also happended many times with the airlines yet this wasn't socialism. The banks arn't kept forever in goverment control but are sold, now being properly regulated, bank to the private sector, really watch Stiglitz
bodah44 2 years ago
As the Illuminati says "Out of chaos comes order" The crisis is created so people will suffer and beg authorities to find a solution, any solution. Freedom is taken and a tighter grip on the masses in achieved. The problem is over and tyranny has won. This technique has been used for thousands of years because it works and we are the suckers. The economic crisis is the current crisis in a long chain of contrived crises The government is just making the crisis worse and agreeing with the solution.

Viva Chavez! Why the hell should we not be talking about nationalizing the banks? We have paid good money when the market wouldn't give them any more lucre. The federal government bought them with US tax funds. Why not assume ownership for what has already been paid out?
