  • That was great form my friend, Ive been using tonfas for a few years now and nobodys seems to be able to grasp it. Its a difficult weapon to control, ive seen a lot of vids. but this one is good. Im sure i dont need to tell you to keep it up, but keep it up!!!!

  • @dragonsteer09 Thanks so much for your compliment. It's been a long time since I've had a formal instructor (mine retired seven or eight years ago). I know my technique has drifted a bit, but it's good to know that things are still recognizable. ;-)

  • VFMilitary I learned this Kata when I was 12 ( been training in Shito Ryu and Shorinji Ryu since I was 4) and you seem to have it down pretty well...I was surprised to see Tae Kwon-Do using weapons but I agree with your comment about it helping to train in different styles...I'll see if I can't find some videos of me or my students doing this kata so that you might get some veriations on it because each style is different...

  • @KunibaKaiPensacola Thanks for your comments. I would love to see other styles of this. We had a visiting Kobudo Master who came to our school every other week to train us in weapons before he retired. Unfortunately, I am the last of his students still at our school, so I am tasked with keeping the forms alive. If you have any recommendations for materials (videos, books, etc) I would also be interested.

  • Y la peña, aplaude xq grite??? amosss

  • I just have one question... what style of Tae Kwon-Do is this?

This is the first sub-style I've seen that uses weapons O_O

Tae Kwon-Do literaly translates into Kicking, Punching, The art or the way.

    So... just wondering :D

Not meant to be offensive :)

  • No offense taken at all. Our main focus is Tae Kwon Do of the Chung Do Kwan school. We do, however, train in some of the other styles, just to be well-rounded Martial Artists. The form above is a Kobudo form which I learned many years ago when I trained regularly in the style.

  • It's common for various Korean-style martial arts to be practised (at least in North America) along side Okinawan weaponry forms.

I trained in Tang Soo Do for five years, and had to present Bo forms on every underbelt test, as well as prepare tonfa and various other weaponry forms after I'd reached Cho-dan.

It's a good way to help balance your martial arts training, as a lot of the traditional Japanese styles use different stances and striking techniques than Korean styles.

  • Is it obligary to clap a lot in this school?

Its sort of like the automated laughter in the old comedys......so you will know when to laugh.

    Good form otherwise.

  • We are not a traditionalist school, so we encourage our students to cheer on their teammates, especially in a performance situation such as this.

  • Thank you for the commentary. Would you have some of your own performances available for public view so that I might see how I could improve? Unfortunately, I haven't had an instructor for well over five years, so my skills are bound to get sloppy.

    Thanks again!

  • That was pretty good just Had to do that for my Brown belt test (Karate) and i watched this before to make sure i wasnt forgetting anything sure enough i was forgetting the double hit thing before the 3rd last move. So Ummm Thanks =)

Wish our school let us clap

  • when do they stop clapping?

    GOD!!

  • I guess when they stop enjoying my presentation. ;-) Seriously, though, I realize that in many schools it is inappropriate for the audience to cheer on the performer. In our school, it isn't. Sorry if it bothers you.

  • it's ok. it doesn't bother me nice form!

  • Good demo. I have trouble with this kata, so I have to watch this video over and over.

  • Thanks for the positive comment. I'm glad it's been helpful. If you are interested, I think I've got one of my bo forms, Matsu Higa no Kon, also available.

  • Why ther are clapping continuously?? This is a grading exam, isnt it? Why clapping?? Even in a tournament inbtwn a kata, normally dont do clapping ... Why blue Gi? Why wear shoes? BTW, performance is ok :)

  • In our school, we applaud our classmates to cheer them on. My blue uniform is because I am an instructor in our school. I wear shoes because our school allows that to adults due to the concrete floor which has already caused some damage to my arches.

  • IC.. Which tradition r u from?? A Blue uniform for instructor?? Why??

  • Our school trains in Tae Kwon Do Chung Do Kwan, though we are not a purist school. We mix in weapons, grappling, etc, to make ourselves more rounded as martial artists. Why blue? Because that is what the school's owner decided on.

  • Ic.. understood.. Interesting to knw those information.. I thought u r from a Kobudo style, tht s why i askd abt blue uniform..

    All the best.. :)

  • BTW, in what tradition do you train?

  • Okinawa Shorin Ryu Karate, Ryukyu Kobudo, Chen Tai Chi

  • Are they clapping constantly to throw off your concentration??
