Hi maybe you can help. I recently saw a pole that is removable. and doesnt need to be screwed or attached to a ceiling. It also has a base matt like gymnastics.
its completely removable and doesnt need to be screwed in or attached at either end. the base matt is sturdy... do you know where I can find it again?
@mobyshaker Thanks, Mobyshaker! I'm not nearly good enough to teach...but Lian Tal (whose channel name is LIANTAL) owns Body and Pole in New York has worked with some A-list models at her studio in Manhattan, getting them ready for photo shoots involving aerial skills and photography. In LA, I'd recommend Leigh Ann Orsi Reilly, who was a television actress and teaches pole at the studio she owns, "Be Spun." The current national pole champion, Alethea Austin is a professional photographer...
@Poledancefan who works at Be Spun also. She specializes in erotic photography and artistic production work, she is an excellent private coach and show business professional. In Florida, I'd recommend Allison Cox...she is a professional aerialist who teaches pole and is also familiar with photographic and commercial TV production and runs her own web-site. They are all easily searched on Facebook under their real names as they are public figures and professional world class coaches and teachers.
It's a home made pole...and most of the process of making it is documented on videos from last summer--and the new pole project was around December in 2008. No...I am self taught, LOL!--that's why I am so terrible! But seriously..I get lots of help from the polers on You-Tube. They are a wonderful group of ladies! It is difficult in Chicago to find a men's class for pole.
Even in British Columbia it is! You actually aren't terrible, I thought you are really great! I watched quite a few of your videos and I am impressed! I started just over a year ago and it took me almost the full year to learn some of what you learned! Your awesome!
Thanks for clarifying. I wish I had a pole to practice on. I live in a tiny one bedroom apartment in New York City and the only pole I have is not big enough for a guy to do a one handed reverse spin. I'm just being honest. I love your shorts. You look really sexy in them.
Thanks! Be sure to check out NYPD. The channel name is The Pole Dancer. New York Pole Dance is run by Wendy Traskos, who is a physical trainer and pole instructor. She has studios in White Plains and in the city. She is running the national contest this year and has quite an impressive group of students
Hi, Jeng. Before I bought the pole dance lesson DVD, I used a video from REDKE71 to help me learn some of the pole moves. Ms. Redke71 is an awesomely talented dancer, model, championship poler (North Carolina 2008 First Place), and a mentor to many just starting out to learn how to pole dance. I posted the video partly as a tribute and a Thank You for all the help and encouragement she has given me. And..Thank You for watching and enjoying my video. Are you interested in learning how to pole?
I haven't really managed anything one handed a t all. For me the problem is simply body mass--I weigh 195 pounds and one shoulder just isn't gonna support that mass, no matter what! I am weight training, too--but I probably need to get down to 180-185 to be any good!
Ya, her competition was bad ass! I added her on myspace after I saw her vid where she is dancing to Comfortably Numb. She is the one who told me that the X Pole is the best to get.
Yes, she is! I've been lucky to have a lot of "mentors" who make great comments and suggestions, and I appreciate each and every one of the wonderful ladies (and a few gentlemen!) who have helped me. But Karol's list of moves really provided me with a "structure" to follow in learning moves and I'm really grateful for that. I've seen her competition video--she just tore the place up, flaming pasties and all, LOL!
Thanks, Zuzana! Yes, I've got a few more video clips eady to edit--I just haven't had the time to post them yet. Maybe this weekend. I really enjoy your exercise and training videos. I have actually tried to follow along with some of the workouts and stretches!
Thanks, Alesandra! Ihave another set of clips sitting in my video editor with improvements on the corkscrew and hope to post it soon. I've noticed time and time again that spins get easier if you slow them down, move them closer in to the pole, and go a little higher up--just like you said. I think that as a guy, I am always tempted to "muscle" my way through the move and that's how I get it messed up. I'm still not yet satisfied with the corkscrew yet and will keep trying...
This first move you do is such a pain in the butt. You totally nail it smoothly though. I'm so jealous!
I have one recommendation. When you go into the corkscrew just grab a little higher to start with, maybe place your hands about 6 inches higher. Your corkscrew is fab no doubt, but you end up a lot closer to the ground sooner than expected at some points.
Thank You so much! Actually, I am a little disatisfied with my corkscrew and have been trying to improve it. I'd like to go around a little further. Your comment inspires me to work at it a little more. I tend to get real impatient when I can't get something rigth away the first time--I've got to be more patient!
well done! all difficult spins there, u have really good control ur spins looked great! I'm still working on the corkscrew i find it quite difficult to get my hips infront of the pole! ur doin fab, keep it up! are u finding pole a better workout than the gym?x
Well, it's a different kind of work out. The real problem for me is endurance. I am so heavy and unskilled at pole that I cannot do it more than a half an hour. At the club or bike riding I get a full 1 1/2 or 2 hours of a workout. I just can't believe how nuch poling hurts and exhausts you so quickly. But I am kind of stubborn and I'm going to keep at it as long as I can--at least trying all of the spins. Inverts, too...if I ever get a teacher or a class in a safer setting. It's hard, but fun!
your corkscrew is better than mine!! Nice and smooth as you near the bottom - great work Joel!! Pull up a little with that top arm more, and you are pro material!!! XOXO
Thank You! Actually I'm least pleased with that part of the practice. Yesterday, I worked some more on the cradle spin, following advice from many of the ladies to get more "fetal" in the move. As for the corkscrew, it doesn't seem "curvy" enough and I get to the ground before I complete a full rotation. But if I throw more momentum into the spin, my legs just fly out all crazy--and I can't pull them back into the corkscrew shape in time to make a good spin. I'll practice it more next week...
good job on your corkscrew joel. the ones from about 5;37 onwards where you kick your legs out a bit to give you more "oomph" seem to work better. i find this move quite tricky.
also that song you are on about on your description "you spin me round",i used on my next to latest video called butterfly to flatline attempts. it was a hugely popular song in the uk in the eighties,i thought it was very appropriate for a pole video too. another case of great minds think alike eh !!!
Thanks. Yep, I think it's as if you need to "shoot" your body out longitudinally first to get some "throw weight" into it like it was a catapult. Then you are doing a little freaky twist and yanking all that force back, over, and around. You hear that "CLUNK" on the joist and rafter nice and loud when you twist back around! We've got a four day holiday in November, so I may try a spin to music if I have enough courage...or beer!
Joel, i think your reverse attitude looks better than mine! For the cradle spin, you have your hands right. Try standing next to the pole.. pull up with your hands in the position without spinning and just lift up and tuck your knees together and to your chest. Think fetal position..! Good attempts at the corkscrew too. Keep at them and youll have them down pat!! good job..
As I practiced, I did notice that the closer I was to the pole the easier it got. About halfway through it occured to me that this move is really the crouch or crunch spin, but just with a different hand placement--hanging versus dom/sub with body in the middle. I have no "body" sense at all until I do something myself. I'm going to work on the cradle and corkscrew some more...
PS: You sping me round would be a fun song to see you dance to :) it's very 80s and goofy but fun. Tuck spin is looking good, corkscrew (wish I found hard) seemed natural to you now you just need more revolutions. I can't tell you how fun it is to see you progress!
I'm gonna burn the CD to the desktop today. Actually I can drop tunes into the SANSA clip (like an I-pod, but cheaper) and plug it into Johannah's boom box. I didn't say the companies in the narrative, but I guess SONY BMG (Bertelsman Music Group) and Universal are acceptable partners to You-Tube. They profit share if your vid is popular, but can yank it if they don't like it--but at least they won't sue you, LOL! So maybe over Thanksgiving 4 day, I'll whip up a dance if I get the courage!
Joel - great reverse attitude!! You are really coming along.....determination is working :) The cradle is quite tricky for a beginner, and remember it being very hard (like all moves) in the beginning. So you'll get it. The corkscrew I still don't get very well.....so again - you're doing pretty good. But LOVE that attitude spin - great job!!! :)
Thanks! I'm not happy with the corkscrew yet. And cradle needs more work, too! But going through Karol's library is helping me learn the basic concepts and moves and that's helpful to me. I'm really starting to feel the limitations of not having a class and a taller pole. But I'm still having fun with it and I'm going to do as much as I can on my own in my very very short basement!, LOL. Actually, the cold weather that Shelly hates is good for me--I don't get tired/sweaty as fast practicing.
Yea! I'm your new #1 fan! Keep up the good work.
