Ok for anybody that agrees with Johnwabash, here's the skinny. This video is for beginners, correct. However I've been playing for over 10 years and I can tell you that this is horseshit advice. Just to let you know there's much better resources out there. I'm not sure how expert village manages to be so bad at everything they put out.
Wow, as a disc golf beginner, it is disheartening to see that most disc golfers posting on the internet are elitist pricks. If you saw me drive, you'd probably call me a faggot and try to shove a pinecone up my ass. I suck at DG, still have fun though.
@12guitdown Try a surge flx. Of course The rock is a staple in my bag and has been for 12 years. Finding a flat one is difficult. I have been offered a lot of money for my Ken Climo 8 times champion? It's so old the print is gone. But it's flat and is very predictable in the wind. My new favoite all around driver is the champion roadrunner. Nice glide and great control and when it lands it doesn't skip. So I'm comfortable throwing it at dangerous baskets in an island thats suronded by ob"s
This guy sux!!!(Sorry guy) Expert Village my ass! It's more like Expert Village disguised as Trailer Trash! You guys are clueless when it comes to DG and yur videos overpopulate the quality vids. Sorry no offense here but it's the truth! . And for you newbeis if you find this stuff useful and want to improve your game, you need to visit Disc Golf Course Review.
It took me about 2 seconds to recognize Eugene, lol.
Personally I almost always Anhyzer hole 8 as well. When the hole is in the back setting it can be hard to get it over the hole without sailing by. Really the key to this shot is disc selection.
frisbee golf is the shit, and ppl talkin crap bout this tip video and all these negative comments just dont watch then.......at least this guy went out of his way to try to help ppl learn, get a lifee
I'm not trying to be a dick, but I have to be honest - This guy's tips suck.
Understable discs mean that if a right-handed back-hander threw it perfectly straight, it will naturally fade right when it reaches the end of its flight.
Hyzers and anhyzers are the angles that the discs are released at. It has nothing to do with the flight characteristics of the disc.
what kind of camera are you using? Seems like theres a lot of wind. But in the trees there is no wind. Change camera and do it again. The sound here is crap
its not about throwing at 10oclock, its about the angle you release your disc at, you can turn it over throwing at 10oclock and it go nowhere...and his form is off, on the approach (x step) your butt should face the pin, reach back with your disc and bring it straight across your chest when you throw....the angle you release your disc at will determine where it goes, not where you throw it
Maybe its just me but I feel like sidearm throwers like myself are definitely a huge minority. Also if I throw an under stable disk sidearm style is it going to turn left then?
i don't want a stoner who occasionally plays the sport of disc golf tryna explain sumthin on, notoriously-not-expert, expertvillage... i love complaining it always helps :D
he is using a star sidewinder, its one of my favorite discs and its bad advice to tell people about aiming at 10 o clock and it will end up at 1 because not everyone uses a sidewinder, he is right that is how i aim with my sidewinder but you cant tell everyone to do it that way that is just the behavior of that disc with my bad form and his as well, lol
the only reason he does that kind of anhyzer is because he has so much body language on it and decent amount of power so it doesn't fade out. The true anhyzer comes from a slight hyzer thrown at a good speed, angle, nose down with most understable discs. If you use expertvillage technique a slighty more over stable disc may work best.
I wish the Expert Village was actually expert. Aiming at 10 o clock is just based on the disc he has, which he doesn't share with us. A 250' shot is fairly easy for anyone who's played more than one year. Anheisers are easy after you try them out and have the right disc, usually some disc that would normally fly straight or be expected to turn such as a Buzz (mid range) or Xcel/Avenger (driver) by Discraft or almost any putter.
I have to agree with at least one earlier post; the purpose of the video was to provide instruction on shot selection. To that end, the video is moderately successful. If you are, as some previous posters have indicated, fairly new to the game, know that YouTube is a veritable cornucopia of valuable videos on topics ranging from backhand shots to forehand shots to overhand shots et al. Discraft has more than a few truly helpful videos, at least one of which is concerned with shot selection.
Expert Village my ass. There is nothing helpful in these videos. All I am seeing is a bunch of garbage like " Just go for it ". This isn't going to help anyone who starts out new to the game. What these guys need to do is stop messing around and teach us something useful, otherwise, I could make a better video while actually showing the disc more clearly in the air. You cant even see where it goes in this video.
actually i think these videos hepled me alot. im pretty new to the game and these videos have helped me alot expecially cause i dont have many friends who play and therefore no one to teach me how to play.
@fallyfigure yeah i thought that was kind of funny- you get to the actual part where he's going to throw, and his advice turns to "go for it" i guess you DO have to "go for it" on every throw
I recommend taking none of this advice whatsoever. What a lame instruction. This isn't even close to how to handle a shot. This is made by a bunch of newbies.
Pretty sure the point of this particular video was just shot selection. Other videos have already spent time explaining how to throw. The part "I just go for it." was not the tip. It was him explaining how a shot works.

i just love how this guy "John Stone" isnt in the PDGA or the SNDG websites and hes supposed to be this pro for 15 years. thats clearly something to think about....
What a bunch of pricks comment on these videos. I have been playing for exactly one month, and I can't throw for shit. So a 251' distance drive for me would be amazing.
These videos are for the beginners like myself who can't get it to do what we want.
So why don't you naysayers and negative fucks keep the negativity to yourselves. Thanks for the vid, Expert Village and John Stone.
I agree with the above and I mean the following to be constructive advice from the viewpoint of a n00b to disc golf.
Using technical terms, even basic ones, like "anhyzer" in an instructional video without explanation does not help. I shouldn't need to research the jargon to understand an instructional video. If this was meant for novice players who would understand, the video's label should be more clear. since "How to throw a distance disk" seems like it is geared for a beginner.
you watched a different video. I've played for a few years and this didn't teach me anything because i alreadyknew about annheiser but that's what he did teach here... how to throw backhanded and tilt your disc to make it go left to right rather than vice versa.
@johnwabash The other "pricks" are totally right. They're not just being snobby. This guy is awful. His throw looks like a convulsion. And... yes... 251' is NOT long distance. I wouldn't make fun of anyone for not being able to throw far. It's just a game, after all. However, as soon as you start calling yourself an "expert" and teaching other people how to do it, you'd better know what the hell you're doing. John Stone's videos are destructive. They teach terrible, ignorant technique.

@johnwabash yah this video is for us newbies. ive been playing for 2 months and this guy realy didnt tell us how to throw a anhyzer. just cause it understable doesnt mean its gonna throw anhyzer. you got to end your throw palm down. and throw at an angle. all he says is go for it. not very helpful.
@johnwabash I was able to throw 250' after about 2-3 hours of practice immediately after having never heard of the game before and I'm in terrible physical shape you're just bad hahahaha
@johnwabash Well the thing is, hes not giving good techinque. You might wanna try watching the discraft pro clinic. Those are good for learning, and are easy to follow. Gook luck on the course!
@christopherb27 Technique! Technique! Technique! And as always=DRIVE FOR SHOW, PUT FOR DOUGH!!!!
I started the same as everyone. Trying to blast my throws and endding up in the woods. I had a passion to get better so I threw myself into weekly events and tournaments. I'm from Cincinnati. Now I need to get my putting back. I feel like I have focused so much on adding distance that I have lost complete confidence in my putting. Thanks for the advice.
@johnwabash I have the same problem. My putting's on and off. Lack of confidence is killing me. I'm starting to get a bit more consistant by experimenting with a jump putt. If it misses at least my putter want go too far. A lot of guys in Cincinnati I shoot with are money 40 feet in and it gets frustrating but thers always something to learn form them. Good luck and have fun.
@johnwabash I'm sorry if I made you loose focus on your putting. I watched your videos on your channel and do you have a basket in your yard? Mine was stolen in a tournament when I let the guys running it use it as a placement hole. Still don't know who took it but it was made from pvc tubes and has "Crispy" scratched into it on the base pole. Anyway your technique looks great. I always put to much focus on my drives even now when I should be praticing my putts.
@johnwabash Congrats on your distance. It took me a few years before I could get over 350. I eventually reverted back and worked on my release point and lining up my body to throw more accuratley because the holes at the corses I've been playing average over 4 or 500 feet. I'm throwing a rock or champion big bead Aviar just to stay on the fairway. Give me a shout if your ever over this way. There is a great mix of courses ranging from begginer to Mount Airy where the '98 Worlds was held.
@johnwabash This advice is meant to be helpful but when driving a disc there are many things that you have to think of. Look up "Discraft Disc Golf Clinic: Distance Driving Techniques" if you want help from a pro in the PDGA on driving. The best thing you can do is throw with 75% power to get best flight and control. Good luck to everyone!
@fuckyougeorgebush He never said "Perfect anhyzer technique". What a lot of people fail to realize is is there is no perfect technique. Ive been at it a long time and seen a lot of things change. Such as the power grip/lose grip theory. I throw with a power grip, but a lot of people I know still use a lose grip on the disc. What it comes down to is what is the most comfortable for you. Under two hundred feet I use a sidearm or a thumber. A lot of people dont.
seriously this dude makes the worst vids ever!!!! he has no clue what he is talking about and it really shows, someone needs to tell expert village he is a major douche who has no idea how to play or teach good disc golf...
Distance drive on a 250' hole? Are you kidding me? Good thing we can't see where the disc ended up. I bet it's no where near the basket. Please stop making videos. You put out 20 videos, ALL useless.
Seriously dude. I'm a one-year amatuer, AND a girl, and I know that trying to teach someone to throw distance by doing an anhyzer throw is NOT going to teach anyone anything.
I'd like to know why the guy chooses a 251' hole to demonstrate how to throw a distance drive. It's no joke to say that hole is reachable left-handed with a putter.
didnt really tell me much...

These videos are counter-productive to the sport. I hope this guy is not getting paid for this.

I love the part when he's like "...and I just GO for it." I wasn't prepared for such a spazzy throw, it made me laugh.

Distance drive on a 250' hole? Are you kidding me? Good thing we can't see where the disc ended up. I bet it's no where near the basket. Please stop making videos. You put out 20 videos, ALL useless.

Yeah, seriously, a 250 foot anhyzer drive to demonstrate "how to throw a distance disc". Are you kidding? Btw, your form is terrible.
bekele2617 3 years ago
Seriously dude. I'm a one-year amatuer, AND a girl, and I know that trying to teach someone to throw distance by doing an anhyzer throw is NOT going to teach anyone anything.

why can't we flag this guy, he sucks

Wow you guys are so awesome. You must be disc golf pros!
ChaseGod 3 years ago
All I have to say is leave the help video's to the pros. You should change the video name to "Disc golf for dummies, by dummies."

I'd like to know why the guy chooses a 251' hole to demonstrate how to throw a distance drive. It's no joke to say that hole is reachable left-handed with a putter.
