Spring of 78 right before graduation from Terry Sanford HS in Fayetteville, NC. Saw them and the Brothers Johnson open for them at the Cumberland County Memorial Coliseum. Then in fall of 79 saw them open for Frankie & Maze.
Straight up funk. They don't make it like this anymore because they CAN'T!! Most of these guys don't know their way around an instrument enough to play this kinda funk anymore...and the young kids don't even know what instruments are.
A cousin of mine was accidently shot in the neck by a friend in 1978 when this song came out. Everytime I heard this song, I think of my cousin in the hospital holding on for life. He did survive the shooting. One of my all time favorites from LTD feat. Jeffrey Osbourne, Holding On. Great Hit from the 70s.
Awesome times....I was 14 when this record came out in '78......This was my fave record that year.....J. Osborne was and still is the consummate badass vocalist...Amazing stuff.....
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
bless your poster outofthisworldgurl @age 23 you do know what real music sounds like. i love you for that comment!!! i thought the generations after myself was sure lost!!! lol at least this 23 year old got the message in the music!!!
Classic r'n'b and soul from the 70s was THE business. R'n'b - or what they have the nerve to call r'n'b - today is just a load of autotuned, electronically-processed garbage that only serves to disguise the main ingredient: tunes (or in the latter's case - an astonishing lack of tunes). Back then, they could SING, unlike today when all the so-called 'soul' singers do is wibble as many notes as they can when just one or two will do. (Blame Miss Piggy lookalike Mariah Carey for this craze)
@busterabcat yeah, i think r&b may have died around 2005. what's making rap music so good currently is that there are still the 90s rappers still putting out good music. back to r&b, the only group i've heard in recent years that put out good music is mint condition.
@busterabcat It is a shame what mainstream soul music has become. There are great soul singers like Chrisette Michele, Ledisi, Amel Larrieux and others but unfortunately they never get the recognition that they richly deserve.
Whoever posted this, thanks!!! I just celebrated my 39th bday & I grew up on real old school R&B Black music like this. It really brings back so many memories
