I remember when my software group tried to write an efficient elevator control system in software via java. Almost worked but we had trouble implementing the GUI frontend.
are these elevators controlled by computers? if so what OS do they run if any? one of the panels said microcomputer so I was just wondering what OS they ran.
@ascensoribrianza The routines would be written in "machine language" I believe which takes a lot more time to do, but also means that the actual program files are much simpler/smaller and, more reliable without error, and not "top heavy" like that in a O/S and software for a PC.
The OTIS 13 VTR is in reality not a Otis Machine unfortunately... the brand is Montanari. Made in Spain, But theses machines aren't good as the Trues Otis machine!
Are some of these service elevators? Palmetto Health Richland has 9 elevators in the 11 story Main Building. 5 are the public elevators and the 4 behind them are service elevators. They are made by Otis. Hospitals are known for installing fast elevators for small 4-7 story buildings with the exception of the parking garages. At Three Medical Park (Building 3) of the Palmetto Health Richland complex. The parking garage is the same height, but with a much slower elevator than inside the building.
I see the VTR machine has a sheave brake fitted. In the uk we also use rope brakes activated by compressor. The sheave brake is a lot more reliable as the compressors require replacing after a few years.
Otis VTR machines are very odd...a compact machine with a worm drive and vertical shaft motor.

Elevator controllers with electronic board use some dedicated programs write in eproms. They doesn't use a OS as a PC.

The machine in an Otis VTR made in Spain.
There are 11 floors in this ospital.
ascensoribrianza 3 years ago
Very interesting. Lots of different machines here. What is that machine at 1:14? -Motor seems to be mounted vertically. How many floors are there?
