Card check is anti-business, not anti-worker. That's why establishment politicians--especially the GOP--opposes it. It makes it easier for workers to organize.
@DrTimWhatley lol it's easier to vote in the open instead of privately voting?? lol so i can get to intimidate my workers by saying," ahhh haaa, i can see what you vote for.If vote for the union,or against the union THERE WILL BE DIRE CONSEQUENCES >:DDD..." OH that's really not against employee. Then again,I could hint," I really don't like this union business.I remember a guy who replaced all his employees for it,but i'm just saying u know GUYS :DDDD..."
@sesshoumaru3st I don't know what kind of coworkers you have, but when workers attempt to unionize, intimidating your fellow employees is hardly an advisable tactic.
With card check, if you get a majority of workers of a potential bargaining unit to sign cards to unionize, its formation is automatic, pending certification by the Labor Relations Board. Currently, if 30% of workers sign cards, it then goes to an election. But if you 50% + 1 who've signed the cards, an election is redundant.
@sesshoumaru3st All a "secret ballot" does is buy time for the company whose workers want to organize, and this allows them the opportunity to intimidate workers (or even fire) who want a union.
For the record I am not blindly pro-union. There are some bad ones out there--particular in the public sector--but it's sad to see organized labor universally ridiculed, and by extension, American workers who've gotten slammed for the last 30 years as their wages have stagnated.
@sesshoumaru3st All the "secret ballot" does is buy time for employers to intimidate or fire their workers who want to unionize.
I am not blindly pro-union, as there are some bad ones out there, but I think it's sad that organized labor is almost universally reviled when its influence has declined greatly over the last thirty years, during which time the wages of most American workers (union and non) have stagnated and millions of jobs have gone overseas.

In any case, we need a way to protect employees who are browbeaten by a supervisor to oppose the union; or are being told they may lose their job and livelihood if workers vote for the union.
On this all Americans can agree: no one should be intimidated into voting one way or another.
Secret balloting is vital, but so is our freedom and our American right to vote your conscience, right?
If not card check, what's the solution here? Better ideas?
There is no secret ballot already in place. After the initial vote, the EFCA DOES allow for secret balloting to determine the course of action. Learn about the current system, and, READ the EFCA to educate yourself on exactly what's at stake.
Amen! You wonder about the collective intelligence of the American people. I also think it's funny when people read this comment and give it thumbs down. Why don't they just hand over all their money to the government and let them take care of us all. Oh, that is what they won't, my bad.
I find it interesting that Warren Buffet who was so for Obama is now speaking out against his policies. Even he is realizing the WH policies and lack of policies are hurting the economy
What Card Check does is allow for more competition busting unions to further destroy American business incentive when we are ALREADY crippled. It is an unethical pay off by the Obama administration to buy off more short sighted votes that will selfishly and foolishly further reduce our ability to compete on the global stage.
The Obama socialists are either dangerously ignorant/misguided or intent on destroying the foundations of our economic freedoms for political gain.
Card check is a huge mistake. When unions are forced on employers, and the feds are forced to intervene when the employers dont give into the unions-the companies will close up or move their business overseas. Its simple keep the secret ballot. That is democracy! If you vote pro-card check you are anti-democracy.
