In the words of the Angry Video Game Nerd, "the music makes nails on a chalkboard sound like Mozart." The sound is the primary reason why I threw away Sega Smash Pack vol. 1 and stuck with Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection instead.

Oh god! I remember having this thing, the conversions were horrendous. I guess if you liked Virtua Cop 2 you were in luck, but daaamn this pack was poorly done. Get the PC Smash Packs instead, they're done right.

@segaforever19 XD ah. Really, I actually like how the music sounds in sega smash pack. It doesn't make my ears bleed at all. This was actually the first game that I ever played Genesis games. Now that I hear the originals, I still like these versions of music better, cause it sounds like 8-bit to me which I love.

Only 1 I hate on here is Sonic, Green Hill Zone and Title screen sounds shit.

I love the 8 bits too because I had a Master System 2 when i was a kid ^^ when i plays in the sega smash pack emulator I feel nostalgia :) This is the reason

thats what i did, i bought a weapon and equiped for her and still, she can't fight, i'm not used to this game, i'm used to Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst and Dreamcast version.

She can fight from the outset of the game, you just have to go to STGY then ORDR and change it from defend (which is NEI default) to attack.

Love this game. My brother beat every single game in sega smash pack vol 1 on the dreamcast besides this. Trust me, i suck at this game, i always don't make it that far. But i'm good at Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst.

wait i just compared the english version to the japanese version(the one i have is the japanese version)i noticed they both sound different and this is the one i have(because i live in japan) and i really loved the music from the japanese better than the english version because it was really catchy music and sounds sorry for all of you english lovers on phantasy star 2 but i just cant stand the awesome sounding music of the japanese

Weird music, is that the japanese version of the game? The sound effects were better in the US version if that is the japanese version. The music was also slightly better even though its basically the same. Im just seeing right now english text... weird, its not the same version i played back in 1989

It's from Sega Smash Pack on the Dreamcast, which is a compilation of about, I think, 12 games but Sega decided to change all the music and sounds in the compilation into 8-bit.

Thank GOODNESS that the GBA PSCollection sound is better... and that the PS2 SGCollection sound is even a little better than the GBA's (the GBA's title screen had a wavery oboe as it transitioned to the summary). Only a few sounds in this video sounded about right - the first few notes of both the battle and Motavia overworld were decent, but... where the hell was QA?

It's not the game. The game is a masterpiece, in my opinion. It's just that the sound in this version is mutated worse than the enemies are.
