I can sit mesmerized for hours listening to this guy play. Such an amazing talent. Combine that with hours of practice and what he does is inspired. I can't get enough.
I can beat that! I first heard John in the early 70's when he first moved to Appalachia (SW VA). I took HD lessons from him for one semester @ Clinch Valley College, Wise, VA. He's been a good friend ever since. Go John!!
I can beat that. I first saw John about 1976, playing on the street in Cambridge, MA. He didn't sing or play any other instruments then. I thought he was great and made a special effort to remember his name.
@bucklandb Yes, this is an original John McCutcheon piece. He wrote it as a symphonic piece, inspired by a whale watching trip. I heard it live in concert in Davenport, Iowa back in April.
I was privileged to be in a workshop that he taught at the Gebhardt Woods Dulcimer Festival several weeks ago! He is a deeply decent man and great teacher.
My girls and I loved seeing John there, too! Always enjoy his stories. He's coming back to the area next March via Acoustic Renaissance Group in Hinsdale. Can't wait!

Very pretty. His strings sound really tightly-wound, though...

OOh pretty! Is that the Nick Blanton HD Ken Kolodner now owns? Very sweet sound.
Interesting echo effect too.
John was my first taste of HD in the 70's.
Thanks for posting!
