I can't believe how last time I saw this video, I never realised Adrian Belew was there. Also guys, Gregg Allman is a musical legend, it's just kinda hard to notice him with all of this guitar face-melting going on
I CANNOT believe this is on youtube I was THERE! It was friggin great!!! This was when Gregg Allman was living in the Bay Area otherwise I doubt he would have done the gig, but really it was a great great time/. John Lee Hooker playing with Ry Cooder (IIRC) and yes Shawn Lane BURNED the house down, tore the roof off tha sucka! Jeff Baxter killed too, and Freddy ROULETTE
@jeffbeckgeek1 Yes it is. But that doesn't excuse his shitty playing. Christ, I'd love to try out one of those 10 Dumbles he owns, though. Then again, I'm fairly certain there's plenty of amps out there for a fraction of the price that are just as good or better. And by fraction, I mean $5000 or so. Any boutique maker will get you far.
Aside from losing time a bit towards the end, 10-year-old Nathan's solo was the most fitting to the song of all the guys. Sad to say, he's not really playing all that much better 18 years later.
@jeffbeckgeek1 Kaiser sucks very, very hard. I think the fellow who posted this deliberately cut off the video before the end so Kaiser wouldn't ruin it completely. Kaiser can't play guitar worth a damn. That being said, I heard some experimental music of his (link sent to me by Andy West of Dixie Dregs) connected to some Antarctic underwater video that was indeed very cool. In my opinion, he should stick with that and leave guitar playing to others...
@lazur1 I'm uncertain as to "buying" his way in to anything. But as the grandson of wealthy industrialist Henry Kaiser, his ability to stockpile Dumble amplifiers and fulfill his every material desire doesn't hurt...
@beeroosterm Yeah, probably not really all that blatant, just a natural development when a guy with unlimited resources wants to make records with real musicians. He's probably a very nice guy, too. No one wants to hurt his feelings. Except us, of course. Until he lends me some amps, when he'll become the hero of experimental guitar in my book, too :-)
shawn's solo was my favorite. sounded way more outside the box than most of the others, which sounded like kind of standard, blues solos IMHO...
i was also wondering, as i watched shawn standing next to the little kid, if he saw some of himself in the little guy. i mean, he was playing with bands on the road when he wasn't much older than that kid. amazing...
Wow..I never knew that shawn played at all with steve morse!!! Both are 2 of my favorite guitarists. Both have some of the most amazing tone control/note shaping chops that I have ever heard.
shawn lane is Genius, in side this simple mortal's !

When it comes down to it. Shawn Lane is in another Universe from these guys. He is like what Sugar Ray Robinson was at WW in boxing, but for guitar.

@beeroosterm I mostly agree, but he seemed to be doing much better here.

@lazur1 Lame...no reason to include him in anything. Let him stick to his experimental music.

@beeroosterm My understanding is he comes from a wealthy family, and buys his way into such circumstances.
