@cjellwood What a rediculous comment!!!!, Have you heard of Sir Richard Branson, in fact I don't think you have any pubic hairs yet, now, go to your room and do your homework.
That is an interesting looking airplane but I am kind of curious why they don't just use a already existing airplane like a 747 or such. It seems like they are spending money on developing something that already exists.
Huh? What design? It looks like two airplanes glued together - and it flies... Isn't it supposed to fly? Okay - it's going to be more efficient compared to some other solutions, but sorry to say - it doesn't look like something extremely sexy. Still a very cool concept, and of course I'm just jealous! Can I fly it please?
I guess that all depends on the definition of a space-ship. We're fighting too many silly wars and should already be walking around on Mars, and exploring the Universe in RAMA-like (Arthur C. Clarke) "space-ships: :-)
It is not space, just suborbital which amounts to a joyride. This cannot reach space stations or go into a semi-stable orbit. It simply goes up, you are weightless for a minute or so, and then you glide back down. Still cool, but if you are interested in manned flight for less than NASA go check out SpaceX.
At least the guy (divingdebs) is optimistic, and Virgin is doing something, which is in my opinion still a lot better than doing nothing. I'm more than happy to give it a test run :-) Space: here we come!
It would be lovely if it had two crews....one wants to turn left and the other crew wants to turn right.....make a wish first then ready....set....go! Everybody gets their way, the plane breaks in half and the "bigger half" gets their wish come true!
Point out the reasons it is a dumb idea, because of people saying this kind of things the aerospace industry has gotten so repetitieve and in the commercial aviation what we have is improved versions of the 707 nothing revolutionary and btw Howard Huges had the same idea to put two spruce goose fuselages together
ok, first thing i think of is, what is the potential benefit of such design? I don't see any. That's why I said from first glance it's pretty dumb. Now if u can point out the potential benefits of this design, you would change my mind.
Because they are thinking outside of the box. They tried something new. If you always stick with the old you can never discover new ways of doing things... :)
My spaceship is better.

@ihaveleg why would they research it if it wouldn't?

@ihaveleg You cant question dozens of great engineer minds out of blue. I'm pretty sure they know what they're building and what is it capable of.

Why don't they pull up the wheels? This way, they have too much air resistance.

This is DANGEROUS setbacks. Crosswinds could unlevel the plane and all the weight will be on 1 side.
D3mon5lay3r 1 year ago
There is no point in building it since the price to fly on it is about $200,000.

a 747 cost arround $40 million dollors, this is a much cheaper option to take the spaceship one to space.

There is a space shuttle that is attached to the middle and belly of that middle "wing", so it makes perfect sense.
