Cool demo. Much more midrange in the V30, and more of a dropped mid sound with the G12H30. The G12H30 sounds "wider" if that makes sense. More beef and punch though with the V30s. The G12H's would probably be a good fit for a hard rock rhthym gtr player, while the V30 seems like more of a lead player's tone. No wonder Slash uses them.
Check out the heavy hitters...Bogner, Engl, and Mesa are the standards for heavymusic, and there's a reason they fill their cabinets with V30s. They do use greenbacks, T75s, and V60s in some cabs, but their main speakers which do what most people who use their amps want...ball crushing heavy...use V30s. If it's heavy you want, heavy you shall get with V30s. You probably are not going to figure anything out that Mesa, Bogner, and Engl don't already know.
212 amp = 2 speakers.... did you put inside a V30 and a G12? (at the same time, like if u look inside the amp there is a V30 in one side and a G12 in the other)
sorry im from dominican republic english no really good
when you used the V30 and the G12, were they both, in the amp sounding at the same time? cuz i rather do that to get a fuller tone rathen than buying a pair of V30s or a pair of G12s
when you used the V30 and the G12, were they both, in the amp sounding at the same time? cuz i rather do that to get a fuller tone rathen than buying a pair of V30s or a pair of G12s
Both sound good. V30 a bit more aggressive and modern voiced. The G12H30 is more classic sounding and bigger top and bottom, but not real thick in the middle. The mix is the best, seems to cover the whole tonal spectrum with the V30 filling out the mids to the G12H30's scoop but bigger top and bottom. My only concern in mixing them, is EQ settings will be harder to find a balance with two very different speakers like that. If I had to pick only one, it would be the G12H30 though.
@TattooedCarrot All right. The other matter with mixing is that the V30 is really louder, and needs to pushed to give its best (very difficult at home).
I switched this V30 with a Greenback Heritage now, and to say, It is the best.
Hard to tell, V30 is a 60w speaker so there's not much speaker distortion, the G12H30 is a 30w speaker so there a bit of speaker distortion. So naturally, the G12H30 the speaker is going to be less smooth and bit more fuzzy, which it is. Really hard to tell the differences now...
Thanks for demo bro. I like the V30 and G12H30 together, I think they mix perfectly together. V30 gives the more aggressive top end while the G12H30 balances the midrange. I think I'm going to mix those two together in my Fender super sonic 4X12.
Thanks for the demo, mate! To my taste, the v30 is the winner.
By the way, I have the exact same amp and I'm thinking of switching the speaker to the V30. Is it still as useable for 'bedroom practice' as it was with the old speaker? I mean, my parents aren't really tolerant when it comes to awesome noise :)
@jwillems7 Thanks. V30 is a bit louder than the stock speaker, which is at 60W too though, but your parents wil not notice the difference, lol ! To be honest, 50W valve amp is too loud at home, whatever the speaker you'd use :-).
I just got the new Egnater Tweaker half stack with the G12H and it's great. I love both of these speakers just depends on what wattage and situation I'm in before I would chose a favorite. 4X12 cab... can't go wrong with V30's!
I think the G12H alone sound best, love the deep yet defined sound they produce, I have a 212 Avatar with them and I play it through a Vox AC30 ,,Suhhweeeeeet!
I have a Peavey 5150 combo loaded with V30's on top of a Marshall vintage/modern 4-12 loaded with G12C Greenbacks. Good combo and I no longer have that pesky wife problem as I have blown her and he underbits out the front door.
Sir, may you come speak at my college graduation? Because what you said is honestly one of the funniest things I've ever heard in my life! My hat's off to you and your brilliant one liners!!!
V30 is loud, but it is a 60W speaker. The stock speaker is at least 50W (dont know exactly, neither its sensitivity).. To me, in this case it is not that louder.
V30 sound seem to have more bite. While G12H seem to have alittle more bottom end, punch would probably be a better work describe G12H. Thank you for the post. Again choosing speakers is dependant on your style, genre you play most, amp tubes, and guitar pickups. I tend to lean to hard rock with my Les Paul. So I would choose speakers with mid range and high end sparkle. Or combo it and Celestion G12T-75s with Celestion V30.
good call on not pushing the v30 hard enough to make it work, jonize. it's a big ole' 60 watt speaker and g12 is only 20? I believe. surprised how good that g12 sounded compared w the v30. I ALWAYS like v30's but this time, the g12 definitely taks the prize. what amp you usin and how loud in the recording? Thanks for the helpful vid!!
I like the G12H for cleans but the V30 for distortion. I don't like the combination though. It sounds like the G12H has a lot more presence but scoops some high frequencies and also has less low-end response.
You forget to mention the particular grit of V30, so powerfull but sometimes harsh to my ear. V30 has a modern voice, G12H is more vintage and smoother sounding, especially with the strat, it does the thing for hendrix / srv stuffs.
V30 = Clarity People (Since It can handle a peak of up to 100DB [Decibels] Used in most high gain amps. Popular in mixing with other various speakers for more bottom end.. The
G12H has more bottom end , But loss in definition and clarity for nice harmonic response .
To me V30 = Clarity and good tone definition
And GH12 = Pillow over my speakers, Feels like I had a grenade land next to my ear and
V30 sounds much much better to my ears, both also sounds good, but I must tell I really did not like how the g12h30 sounds alone, the V30 crushes it badly.
I actually like them both separately since they give you very different (except on the cleans here) and useful sounds but don't like them together where they just sound congested and characterless.
What year is the G12H? What cone? I cant tell the difference between the two. Thing is, you got to make the speakers wobble. This is what so great about the old G12H speakers. You max then out with power, making them wobble. In general, they just crunch and do not produce "noise". It all has to do with the way you process your guitar signal. If you signal is nothing but noise, which yours is, then noise you will get, thus defeating the whole beauty of the old G12H speakers. :)

And how is the v30 compared to the stock speaker for metal?

easy, 4 screws, nothing to sold
For metal V30 will be better (V equalized)and more precise. A little harsh at low volume though.
