@TripAClaymore cause they are made in japan and the currency rate is much much more for the yen, thus meaning we have to pay more dollars, not to mention how it uses only the best steal and the best handles and dewsings....they dont cut corners with their knives. Fucking retart
I totally agree with the2ndsaint -- I have Emersons, Benchmades, other MBC Spyderco knives...this thing is just the best thought-out self-defense folder out there.
Missing the point (so to speak). The POU of this knife is SD w/ icepick grip edge in. Effectiveness in this regard is less a function of reach as it is of body mechanics and blade geometry. The basics of this application can be picked up in just a few hours.
The knives you mention are all good, but the POU is different. I might add that the Safekeeper is illegal in many jurisdictions
@MisterMinnesota Many points of disagreement with the man, but he does break down reviews in a well thought out sequence, and I have no issues borrowing "POU" from him. As for "little", I've never been called that by someone your age. I guess my best comeback is 'stay in school' =)
Thank you for all your reviews. They have been very informative. Clearly, from your reviews, you are very knowledgable with regards to cutlery, so I was wondering what is your view of VG-10 Steel(san mai) as opposed to S30V steel? I just purchased a SOG Arcitech which is made of VG-10 steel, while all my Benchmades are made with either S30V or 154CM steel. I was just curious of how VG-10 stands up to S30V in terms of edge retention and corrosion resistance in your experience. Thanks.
San mai uses vg-1 not vg-10. vg-1 has nowhere the edge holding of vg-10. vg-10 is not quite good as s30v for edge holding but most find it sharpens easier. I dabble in s'narc's edge in style (I prefer Mike Janich's MBC system) and the p'kal is certianly a devastating knife, especially when used to palisut a blocking limb out of the way. Wound profiles look defensive though, so articulate yourself well in court. train hard and stay safe.
I really don't know why I like this knife so darn much.

My favorite folder of all time. I still say it's the best purpose-built self-defense folder of all time.

its a spyderco so hands down its incredible but it has such an odd look to it.

spyderco civilian for a better/more aggresive blade
CS ti-lite 6incher for much much more reach
CS safekeeper 1 ==>you dont need any training and it does a lot more damage.

The P'Kal *does* use a bearing, it's much smaller than the one in the original ball lock though.

san mai is the name of the lamination process, not the steel, Fallkniven uses VG-10 as the core steel for all of their fixed laminated blades

Good to know! I thought san mai was only a cold steel product, cs seems to only use vg-1 in their san mai.
MBCplayerzoob 4 years ago
they used to use AUS8A even
VG1 is a decent steel according to the steel manufacturer that produce the whole VG series
