Wonderful !!!! I've only heard 2 songs by these 2 - both absolute classics - the other one is "You're the reason our kids are ugly" Thank you for posting this. all the best :o) Alan
@blinddrunkal LE and Lola were a trip back in the day! I played drums and backed them many times and they were as much fun as their tunes. LE is gone not sure about Lola Jean. We sure had a blast way back when... i listen to these tunes and get teary eyed and miss those days! Thank you for posting i lost everything from my career in a move! They had a ton of songs but they only recorded a few themselves they wrote for Conway & Loretta which is who made Your The Reason Our Kids Are Ugly famous.
@KemmiiS Thanks, looking for more of these singles to put on here! Sure miss LE...but did record a ton if we can just locate em... "What a Day I've Had" was flipside of "The Big One" Christmas songs...
@LolaJeanDillon Oh gosh Lola Jean! How are you? Its has been years and years since I have played with you and LE! I was the house drummer at the Cider Barn and remember it like it was yesterday! I now am on the other side of the stage doing Music Publicity/Radio Scout/Music Reviews and while I'd rather be on stage it seems as if that was my dream and not God's :) So glad to see you are still alive and kicking! Its been about 25 years ago since we played together.
@LolaJeanDillon Lola I am going to write my email in code since youtube won't allow it.. it is kimmie at kmsrox dot com If you follow my nick @KemmiiS to my profile on youtube my website is there and you can always reach me there. I sure would love to know if/when you find anymore tunes you two recorded. Those were the best days of my life! I was so sorry to hear that LE passed. I was honored to back you both on stage!
@peeweeshoney ...The Christmas song you are talking about is called "The Big One" I will try to locate a copy, I had it on tape and a few others..They were unreleased... but will be shortly! The music world is in for a TREAT!
This one soo much reminds me of a Eugene O'Neil drama, although I'm not sure I understood everything the wife with the Southern accent said. I guess I'd need a tapescript for her. Thanks for sending, Mary! A great post, Phil!
@lettermen1 I played with LE & Lola and the accent on these more humorous tunes is exaggerated. Of course Lola does have an accent being here in TN but her recordings of the non humorous songs is similar to and no worse than Loretta Lynn's as a matter of fact she wrote for Loretta and I have a song "Somebody Somewhere" which was a huge hit for Loretta but Lola's version is much better.
@KemmiiS I live near Liverpool and often had to smile at the Beatles laying on their thick accents at times in their interviews, especially in the early days....
@thousandsmiles1 Lola has a pretty thick drawl that is for sure!! I had to look at her lips when i talked with her to try to figure out what she was saying some times... and don't even try to come in after the sentence started because you'll never figure out what she is talking about LOL!! She and LE both great people, fun to be on stage with, lots of laughs, lots of good times.
I love this Phil ! Very different for you. I remember a few years back when I mentioned my collection of music was kind of eclectic and you said ,,, not me, I'm a Letterman guy! The times they are achanging my friend ! LOL
@mickyblue247 They sure are Micky! Actually I've been giving The Lettermen some breathing space so that they can promote their latest CD " New Directions" but I'll be back to them soon! Watch this space!!
Ha! Great one Phil!! He hasnt Learnt Yeat that wheen the Missis is Hayppie everone is Hayppie!! Murcie Saakes Doont Yaa Knoaw!! Ha! Chili can sure be hard on a marriage!! Thanks for the Grins and Giggles!!
