Yes it does matter when you pull the stick back and forward. there is a "step influence" when batting which means it determines the level of contact/power you make. If you go into the slider setting you will find it and you can adjust it if you dont want it to make that much of a difference when you use the stick.
If you play easy levels, homers are easier. Play on the hardest level, it's difficult to hit homers. Thanks for this video, it was really well done I thought.

I just got the game brand new at gamestop today for $20 its harder than expected considering the only other baseball game i have MLB 2k5 for the origianal xbox and its way easier but this game is tight!

I never play using Rookie, whenever you make slider adjustments it cancels out the trading card option. I make adjustments to baserunning and pitching speed and fielding speed. So my difficulty shows up as "custom" but definitely NO ROOKIE.
on my hitting i count to 3 just like in real baseball coaches tell you as the pitcher is winding up when his feewt move u start 1 2 is knee up 3 is when u swing...t works alright 2
i changed it to total control and then select it to use default settings, but it doesn't do anything. What is the batter ready option for? Do i need to set a button for that? Since I have a 360 controller, do I need to set any buttons?
After about 3 hours I finally found that in order to swing I had to press a button (i'm using a 360 controller) to get the batter ready and then press another button to actually swing.
Is there a way around this or am I doing something wrong?

sounds like you may have changed your controller settings to "classic" rather than total control. Wtih total control, you will be using the right analog stick to swing. The best way to swing is to pull BACK on the right analog stick as the pitcher is about to release the ball and then push UP on the right analog just before the ball approaches the plate. Just go to practice mode to get your swing timing down. Hope this helps.
Yes, that is a live crawler like you would see on T.V. where it displays scores and latest news. It can be customized to show only the sports/news you want to see.
You have trouble stealing? It is pretty realistic you can usually steal about 60 percent of the time depending who's running or who the catcher is. But i found the easiest way to steal is to steal on a guy who has a long windup. So basically you hold the left trigger until a person begins his windup.
I tried following the tips in this video, but when i directional hit to the right or left field (just using the left or right buttons), somehow the outfielders always make the catch.. it's not a real pop up, but it always stays in the air long enough for them to catch it :/
Additionally, when i use the down arrow for directionaly hitting, the ball almost always stays in field and I get beaten to first :( By the way, what difficulty level are you playing on?
The one thing to remember is patience at the place and swinging at the pitches that are thrown in the area of where you are trying to directional hit. You may be using directional hitting but swinging at pitches that arent in that area of your direction which will reduce your chances of base hits. As for the difficulty i play on, it is not the easiest and not the hardest, not sure of the name..maybe all star or something like that.
Thanks mrlux for the reply, I actually played another 9 innings today and i realized exactly what you just wrote.. I need to wait for a pitch in the right place that would go in the direction im holding and that has helped me get on base a lot more.
I'm also having difficulty judging whether a pitch will be a ball or a strike. Is there any way to really tell as the ball is being pitched or do just randomly guess?

i changed it to total control and then select it to use default settings, but it doesn't do anything. What is the batter ready option for? Do i need to set a button for that? Since I have a 360 controller, do I need to set any buttons?

Hi Mrlux,
After about 3 hours I finally found that in order to swing I had to press a button (i'm using a 360 controller) to get the batter ready and then press another button to actually swing.
Is there a way around this or am I doing something wrong?
And can u explain the correct procedure to be able to swing?...thanks

sounds like you may have changed your controller settings to "classic" rather than total control. Wtih total control, you will be using the right analog stick to swing. The best way to swing is to pull BACK on the right analog stick as the pitcher is about to release the ball and then push UP on the right analog just before the ball approaches the plate. Just go to practice mode to get your swing timing down. Hope this helps.

Yes, that is a live crawler like you would see on T.V. where it displays scores and latest news. It can be customized to show only the sports/news you want to see.

You have trouble stealing? It is pretty realistic you can usually steal about 60 percent of the time depending who's running or who the catcher is. But i found the easiest way to steal is to steal on a guy who has a long windup. So basically you hold the left trigger until a person begins his windup.

I tried following the tips in this video, but when i directional hit to the right or left field (just using the left or right buttons), somehow the outfielders always make the catch.. it's not a real pop up, but it always stays in the air long enough for them to catch it :/

Additionally, when i use the down arrow for directionaly hitting, the ball almost always stays in field and I get beaten to first :( By the way, what difficulty level are you playing on?

The one thing to remember is patience at the place and swinging at the pitches that are thrown in the area of where you are trying to directional hit. You may be using directional hitting but swinging at pitches that arent in that area of your direction which will reduce your chances of base hits. As for the difficulty i play on, it is not the easiest and not the hardest, not sure of the name..maybe all star or something like that.

Thanks mrlux for the reply, I actually played another 9 innings today and i realized exactly what you just wrote.. I need to wait for a pitch in the right place that would go in the direction im holding and that has helped me get on base a lot more.

I'm also having difficulty judging whether a pitch will be a ball or a strike. Is there any way to really tell as the ball is being pitched or do just randomly guess?
