@haricotsvert I saw another film of her here on yt, "Nina Simone Live At Montreux" singing "Feelings" not sure, but this looks like it has been taken on the same date.
free your self from all the bad things, believe me, you will be free like the birds in the sky, is taking a little to long for some people around the world course of the bad conditions e.g POVERTY but that day will come, were we all shall be free from bad emotions, I am inspired by Nina Simone.
I am FREE to choose whatever I want, to say, to love, to do, to think, to pray, not to pray, to scream, and to laugh, laugh, and augh, Oh Universe, I am so thankful being SUCH free!!! Let piece go into the hearts forever of those captivated.
I love watching her perform. Everything she does is so organic, it is as if she is not preforming the song but living it. Today, all performances are shallow spectacles where someone is wearing an egg or peacock costume or playing a character or trying to awe and amaze you. Nina did none of those things, and yet amazed and awed. Contemporary artist should take notes. Nina is always interesting, unpredictable, and willing to leave herself completely vulnerable to her audience.
This video has moved me. It is stiring up all kinds of emotions. From that passage from Africa to North America, from that passage from Africa to the Caribbean and right up to life today for those who have gone before us. I am moved.
Lauryn Hill came the cloesest to this...such a shame how we are not able to experience this beacause the culture creators seek to destroy this expression that is so honest on the surface....many artist must lie and be undercover to express what is so confidently expressed here!!! Free??? free!!! our choice...Much respect Nina Simone...I am not worthy..
@shfiftyfive55 Fuck you man, i was watching it because i saw it on the side bar from another video. I'm entitled to my fucking opinion you fuck faced cunt
i love nina simone what a powerful woman she was to provoke change in an era that possessed so much power. The 1970s a time of embracing the black heritage and culture. Makes me so proud!
I wish I knew how It would feel to be free I wish I could break All the chains holding me I wish I could say All the things that I should say Say 'em loud say 'em clear For the whole round world to hear I wish I could share All the love that's in my heart Remove all the bars That keep us apart I wish you could know What it means to be me Then you'd see and agree That every man should be free What a lovely song & voice .Thanks
I was priveleged to see Nina live some years ago and she was absolutely wonderful - greatest live show I ever saw even better than Leonard Cohen or the Boss
Although she said some things that were a bit "extra" over the years, I worship the groundwork that Nina laid for us as Blacks in the 60's, 70's and 80's. She lived through such a turbulent time in America, when being Black *AND* female were two strikes already against you. She was told her skin was too dark, her hair too nappy, etc. But she carried the torch for Blacks wordlwide until her dying day. I'm a child of the 80's, but I know my history. Bless you, Mother Nina!!!!!!!!!!!
Obama has nothing to do with the Black struggle for Liberation in this country. In fact, he's an enemy of Black Freedom. Nina was a Freedom Fighter, and its quite presumptuous to assume she'd like Obama, just because you Liberals and Neocons like him.
Dude, I agree with almost everything you're saying about Obama, but regardless of policy (and he's better than most of the rest), Nina must feel good to finally see a black family in the White House, just like it does for everybody. Though I can't relate, i could only imagine.
Lol, yes, but I didn't know that at the time I made the comment. I also didn't realize how much of a house negro Obama would turn out to be. This was back when I was just getting into Nina, and I didn't know much about her when I wrote that. All apologies.
HI Trevor I posted my comment a month ago when President Barack Obama was inaugarated.I think Nina would have seen it as the end of a long struggle in which she had a played apart, just like millions of other and the start of a new journey to true freedom and justice for all.
blueskyfeeling- I really agree with your comment it is about time for us HUMAN BEINGS to take more control over our actions and change our ways for a better future on this planet, also we should also respect nature because without following its laws OUR TIME HERE WILL GET SHORTER AND SHORTER ...

A detail: the good title is "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free".
It was the unofficial anthem of the civil rights movement in the 1960s.
And this interpretation in Montreux 1976 is two times longer.
The complete same version is available on an other channel.
