  • I thought you were awesome and hope you are still playing. I started just over a month ago with the same book, teaching myself. There's nobody around here to take lessons with. The DVD of Janet playing is a huge help and compliments the book perfectly. I am lovin' it.

  • Keep it up man your doin good, ive been playin bout 8 months now and its all about havin a good time

  • I just bought my first banjo about two weeks ago so to me you sound great

  • Jobanman Hello, very good execution of banjo. I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina.Juego good piano and some guitar, I have 66 years and gave me a big taste. 25 days ago I bought a Fender banjo, and play well the earl sgruggs rolls, but I see that Janet Davis Method, is good among all Internet. The method has been in tablature book and DVD? I'll be very grateful if you answer my question. Best regards, Jose Luis.

  • Great job!! I have the same book.. have been "playing" a bit longer but started out with a clunker.. almost killed it for me.. bought a deering and now im on a roll.. love your Enthusiasm

  • YOU'RE DOING GOOD.. IF YOU'RE ENJOYING IT AND HAVING FUN ,, THEN IT WILL COME .. KEEP IT UP PARDNER.. IT'S A STRUGGLE AT FIRST BUT GETS EASIER.. THANKS FOR THE POST.

  • HEY Jobanman, GREAT job!. I teach Banjo, along with 5 other instruments, and you are doing just terrific. I teach from Janet Davis book, which I believe you mentioned. It's a great book. Someone else here said to spend a LOT of time just on Rolls, and also on Chords, and then you're OFF TO THE RACES. That's excellent advice. Keep sharing your video's, so we can follow your progress, and if you ever have ANY questions, please feel free to contact me. I LOVE teaching, and am here to help.

  • doing real good. just take a day and do rolls all day. and then cords it will fall in place

  • I'm learning from the same book! You play reeeeeeally good!

I hate playing Boil Them Cabbage Down soooo much. I always mess up.

But I LOOOVE playing The Old Gray Goose! You played VERY nicely! :)

  • Well Done

  • Hello jobanman! Great playing - I hope you are still learning. I got the Janet Davis book today - but my banjo hasn't arrived yet!! I've retuned a guitar and am learning the same tunes on it! Hope to get the banjo midweek. Good luck and keep posting vids. :) From bonnie Scotland.

  • the only mistake i saw was the white beetle boots! LOL!

  • thats good man been playing for 2 months

  • Keep it up. I didn't take any lessons myself. I am also learning from the Janet Davis book on Teaching Yourself to Play Banjo.

  • not bad keep at it have seen alot worse

  • good going. this is where im at

  • I'm at about the same point you were when you made this video. Not as easy as most people think is it. Keep going, I'm trying to also.

  • Great job...keep it up!

  • Good job... about as good as I was at 2 months. I've been playing for 1.5years now, and progressing quite nicely. Keep it up, if you found the banjo as infectious as I did, you'll find yourself at least where I am now.

  • better than me! haha

  • Hey that is pretty good! Try using a metronome and start out at about 72 bpm and increase it a little at a time until you are up to speed and playing smoothly. Doing this has helped me alot. Kinda get structured in your daily practice by isolating certain things to practice on. It is great to learn songs but that is the easy part. Learn your rolls and pull offs, hammer on's ectra..You will find most all songs use the same licks. Once you learn them playing becomes easier.

  • Hi, i'm learning too. I have the Janet Davis book DVD & CD as well. I'm currently learning Cripple Creek and Foggy Mountain Breakdown. Of course i'm not up to speed and you have to put up with plenty of mistakes. It's really good fun and satisfying to learn this great sounding instrument. I've struggled, i'm still struggling but i have also succeeded in playing so it has all been worth it. It was good to watch you. Gives others confidence not to give up. Thanks Paul

  • Pretty darn good! Ive had my banjo for a week, and can't wait til Im able to play a song. Hopefully I'll be where you're at in 2 months!

  • Keep doing lad, well done and dont give up

  • i've been playing for 2 months and you are about 12 hrs ahead of me ...great job and an inspiration (41 yrs old ...only instrument i ever played was a radio)

  • Great pickin! Keep it up.

Pretty soon, everything will be second nature. You won't even know what you're doing, you're fingers will just be rollin and it'll come on out.

    You're doing good sir!

  • Very good. Keep picking.

I find a metronome really helps.

  • Thanks for all the nice comments! I'll keep pickn and tryn to grin!

  • great to see a real beginner in practice. you're doing great - keep it up!

  • Well done mate, I too am learning banjo. I been at it for about a year but its just in the last couple of months that I started getting serious. I found when I started playing with a metronome, it made a huge difference , everything started getting smoother and fluent. I gotta say you are doin really good, keep up the good work

  • that`s very good for two months playing.I have had My banjo for over a year, but only play about a half hour a week. I have only just learned this song, although it's really easy in principle, I find it tricky to get the timing right.

this is a great song to learn because once You got the technique, You can carry on to harder tunes.

looks like You`ve almost nailed it though, good work :)

  • hey uncle jobanman, i rayed it 5 stars its awsome!!

  • Sounds great keep up the good work
