  • Great video. Greetings from Sao Paulo - Brazil.

  • Thank you for your love for your country.. Because of you and others like you.. I sit my home and enjoy my freedom.. Thank you. And welcome

  • My uncle was with C troop 9th Cav - John C Hansen KIA July 15. He flew a Cobra though - God knows from where... phoc vinh I think. Thanks for giving me a glimpse.

  • Yep still use "Shithooks" ...and their still shit...

  • I was with A-Co, 2/5. We spent a brief time on search and destroy out of Quan Loi. My most vivid memory- an errant 105 round landed in our camp and took off most of a guys foot. Many of us had concussion injuries, bleeding noses and ears. It was not a good night. It's hard not to give away your position in the jungle when wounded guys are juiced on morphine and laughing and carrying on. Strange memory. Welcome Home guys.

  • Thanks for the film! I was in the central highlands 68-69! Lots of memories. Welcome Home!!!!

  • i was a K-9 handler in the AF at Bien Hoa AB from June 70 to June 71 and can remember seeing alot of the helicopters leaving from over at the First Cav base next to us. glad you made it home safe too. interesting video and good to see more films from that time. thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks for putting this up

  • I was 10 years old. My cousin came home after his 3rd Tour. He was medivac'd Home and was in the VA Hospital next to Great Lakes Navel Station. He got the DSC for action at Fire base Husky. I remember that war will never be forgotten

  • were you Near fire base Husky in spring 1969

  • Ho chi Minh, Vietnam's communist founder, is a disguting TRAITOR and MURDERER. He was a member of the Third Communist International established in 1919 by Lenin. He gave up Paracel & Spratly archipelagos with large oil resources to Red China. He even ordered to murder his own mistress named Nong thi Xuan when she threatened to disclose her sexual relationship with him since that would destroy his image as a "Father" of Vietnam who "sacrifices" his whole life for Vietnam revolution.

  • That house on the French rubber plantation looks beautiful.

  • thanks for your service and posting,a true American hero,no complaining either.thanks

  • 1st Inf 701st Maint Btn Co. D. Quan Loi 67-68. Check photos D Co. I think I saw our company area as Chinook leaving. Never knew it was called LZ Andy until one day I google earth on it. Nothing there now. My photos (slides) show surrounding area of Quan Loi.

  • if anybody ever sees a tank with a bull skull on the front email me. its my dads tank. " the lonely bull" 68-69 im looking for that deadly gook killing bull. (sorry gooks) 3rd mar. div.

  • Wow this is AMAZING :D

I have a good friend in the AF right now, and I'm leaving for the Army within the week.

    /salute

  • Why would any sane person want to join the US army at the moment? They're fighting for an illegitimate marxist council who just murdered thousands of it's own citizens. It has absolutely nothing to do with freedom, it is essentially genocide and wanton aggression in order to take the resources (oil & gas) from a troubled land. As Kissinger put it: you are just clueless pawns for the power structure to use, selling your life and millions of other innocents for profit & Israel.

    Total idiocy.

  • Thanks for your video, I was at LZ Andy AKA Quan Loi in 1970 with the 2nd bn 19th Arty, 1st Cav, after the cambodian invasion.

  • men like you should be running this nation not those fools in washington.

  • I Remember

  • Welcome Home Brother! I served with A 2/7, 1st Air Cav in 67-68.

  • Thanks, Bro! ... I was the Assistant Operations Sergeant for 2/7 when I first got in country but was pulled up to 3rd Brigade to do some intelligence stuff. Thought I was getting out of the field. Wrong! ;-) That was an interesting time.

  • I was a year trying to organize a platoon reunion and it all came to a head in May of this year. 14 made it there and it was just great! Six of them I'd not seen in 41 years. Garry Owen!

    Sloop

  • Excellent! And I remember Garry Owen well! Still have the shoulder badges for Class A uniform. ... My callsign for most of the time there was Cold Steel 2 Mike Delta. I was a lotta places and on a lot of frequencies. ;-)

  • @ralphwroberts. You know the saying "Thou shalt live in interesting times" as a malediction.

  • Great video - thanks for sharing with us.

  • I was a bit young for Vietnam, but my cousin Sgt James McConnell was there and this war got him quite a few years later, Jim passed away from cancers caused by agent orange about 8 years back. Jim was a great man, cousin and soldier. I salute him and all the soldiers of this world!

  • Sorry folks I was not in Vietnam. I must of been asleep when I typed that comment. I left out the not. Again sorry.

  • Sorry I just notice I left out the not. I was not in Vietnam.

  • Welcome home brother, great footage. I was drafted 1969 but spent all 24 months state side. My twin brother was Air Force stationed in a combat zone so I guess that's what kept me out of Nam. I have the highest respect for Vietnam Vets, I only wished 58,169 came home with you. Peace

  • Very cool video. You rock, man.

  • Thanks Ralph. My father was a pilot in the 1st cav from aprox dec 68 till dec 69 although not nsure which specific unit. he flew slicks then the loach on hunter killer missions. He served a second time in the 11th acr as a cobra pilot. his tour was cutt short when he was wounded. I treasure all the footage i find here as i try to capture my father's memory and understand what his life must of been like. Thanks again. Brad

  • This is the only footage I've ever seen of Quan Loi. Rare stuff. My dad was there in B Troop 1/9th Cavalry and I've been working on a documentary about his and my family's experience because of the Vietnam War. My dad arrived in Sept 1969 just after the Sapper Attack in August. He did two tours as a crew chief/door gunner with the Blue Lift. The National Archives doesn't have much on Quan Loi. I've been told, nobody liked to go there since it was rocketed nightly and often daily, too.

  • outstandng video thanks for sharring.

  • ITS A C-7 CARIBOU NOT A C-6

  • Yes, several people have told me that... I was infantry not Air Force. ;-)

  • bollox!

    thanks for the memories!

in answer to rememtp, was,nt 8mm on 3 min spools.

    kodachrome?

    64 asa?

least be glad something remains for others to look back on!

how will we feel in 30 odd years watching iraq footage?

(yoh! dude!,glad you lost the tash!(ned flanders)or wat?)

  • Must have had it pretty rough. How did you find the time to take so much video?

  • wasn't video, it was 8mm film ... and I took one 10 or 12 minute film in over 15 months ... I was somewhat occupied surviving otherwise. ;-)

  • A war no one remembers? No, I don't think we're ever likely to forget Vietnam. It is America's Greek tragedy. But it was also a battle lost in a war won - when the Berlin Wall came down 20 years later, some measure of the victory belonged to all the Americans who served in Vietnam.

Small nitpick: The Caribou is a C-7, not a C-6.

  • i was with the 11th cav up there thanks for the view thank you God bless you

  • Respect to all veterans who served their country with their own life.

  • Thanks for the video and your service. I too found a couple of rolls of Vietnam film. Search us66bill and take a look. Long ago and far away.

  • Thanks for showing your flick. I too was in the war that no one remembers. The film brings back many memories and your narration reminds me how we are now the aging veterans. Welcome home. DA

Could of done with those cobras up Ap Bia Mountain

  • Nice Video!!! Much Respect!!

  • Hey Brother,

    Roland "Pegleg"

  • It's a pity that only so many years later these men and women are appreciated for what they did for their country.

Thanks for sharing this your tour of duty!

  • Welcome Home Brother...Hope all is well. Thanks for sharing the memories.

  • Thank you. I lived on McChord AFB until Dec. 1968.

My Dad flew the C-124' and later the 141's. He died in 1972.

  • some good real footage there from the vietnam war period (very interesting)

  • Thanks for sharing. It's fascinating for those of us who are too young to remeber Vietnam to actually see life on the ground.

  • Ralph

    The Caribou was not a C-6 but a C-7

Great RVN pics.....I too was at Quon Loi, although we, in the 11th Armored Cav. Regt. (the Blackhorse!) called it "Quon Loi" I do think you may have combigned some scene's with some other LZ. As I certainly don't recall those hill's around Quon Loi....we WERE on top of the hill! LOL

    J.R

  • C-7, thanks for the correction... I do remember that those started as Army aircraft but the Air Force took them over.

I was at Quan Loi when the 11th ACR was there... they were attached to my division for awhile.

  • Wow...Amazing footage, Glad you made it back :)

Thank you for your service :D

  • 509th RRFS 66-67 Saigon & 8th RRFS 68-69 Phu Bai. Well come home brother.

  • Welcome home, and may the good LORD still watch over you.

  • I was only about 3 when you filmed this amazing footage. You are not forgotten, you are here, and I am grateful. Thank you for sharing such a difficult part of your past. May the good Lord bless you and keep you now and forever the pearl of his heart!

  • Thank you... for your service and for posting this video.

  • welcome home bro

  • I was there TDY in April 1968, Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Air Man. Things would be very slow and then all of a sudden unbelievable fast. When the base got hit, usually late at night, I still vividly remember dogging incoming mortars as the C130 ZigZaged down the runway as fast as possible. It was amazing to see all the tracers coming up to the aircraft. I have no idea where we would landed most of the time. It could have been Camron Bay or a wide spot, the plane is remarkable. I remember.

  • this gives me goosebumps, i was 14 in 1969, we were crying to go to woodstock, and guys were dying in the nam..

  • Thank you not only for the video, but for your service.

  • I remember because three boys from my class of 1967 died there in 1969. I knew three other boys who died there. I think about them everyday, as it was a worthless war. Now everything we buy is MADE IN CHINA and we are making the Communist rich.

  • I think this is a great video,my Uncle Phil used to send home the same kind, when I was a kid.He never shot any 8mm in the field ethier but I can understand why.I don't understand your last comment about no one remembering,I remember and so do countless thousands that had beloved ones in the war. This was a great video and the narrative made it that much better.I wish Uncle phil was here to narrate my vcs copy of those old super 8's,Good job,Joe

  • Beautiful piece. This footage is priceless. And we do remember. Or in my case since I wasn't born yet, still acknowledge it.

  • Thanks for doing this, Brother. A very moving, poignant piece, nicely done. It brought back feelings, smells & sounds from another life. I flew various Hueys & Loaches up North with the 101st at the same time you were in Bien Hoa. Hardly seems possible...Thanks again-And welcome home!

  • Really neat piece of history ThankYou so much and God bless all of our veterans

  • WOW...this is amazing...thanks so much...it's people

like you that show what real history is!

Thank-You for you service to your country & freedom & democracy!

  • I salute you brother.

  • Welcome Home! Good Video but reminds me of all the film I sent home that didn't make it home --- if ya know what I mean. Hell, they even stole my camera.

  • Welcome Home!!! Wish more guys would do this.

    J. Houghton, Vietnam War Historian.
