@jaofas18, on another occasion an adult female Chimpanzee named 'Suzette' (estimated weight 61kg 135lb) at the same zoo registered a right-handed pull of 572kg 1260lb while in a rage. A record from the USA of a 45kg 100lb Chimpanzee achieving a two-handed dead lift of 272kg 600lb with ease suggests that, with training, a male Gorilla could lift 907kg 2000lb. Know of any MMA fighters who could dead lift 600lb without breaking a sweat?
@jaofas18, you really shouldn't compare MMA fighters strength to that of an ape, lemme give you some facts. In 1924 'Boma' a 74.8kg 165lb male Chimpanzee at Bronx Zoo, New York, USA recorded a right-handed pull (feet braced) of 384kg 847lb compared with that of a adult male human (165lb) who only managed a pull of 95kg 210lb.
@REDpaintMAKESitFAST your a dipshit, animal cruelty is abusing animals and hurting them, look up "cruelty" in the dictionary, this is merely a competition, im pretty sure a primate can enjoy winning something aswell, they are smarter than people think.
@lordaten Neanderthals had think bones, and massive tendons.
no matter how much a human trains, they will never have the bone density of a neanderthal, or the physical build of a neanderthal. You can increase you bone density, but never to the level of a neanderthal. You can increase you tendon strength, but never to the level of a neanderthal.
Muscle only makes up for a small part of strength. However, if you have massive muscles but a poor foundation (bones) then you will always be weak.
Um, you ever heard of those things called bones? Bone density and bone structure is the basis for ALL strength. Afters bones, you have to consider connective tissue. Things like tendons and ligaments. The shorter and weaker the tendons are the less leverage, the less leverage the weaker you are. Human have inherently thin bones, and very short, weak tendons.
99% of all other hominids were the exact opposite, they had very thick, dense bones, and long tendons.
@lordaten I reckon both of those species would struggle to beat even the average human in a game of tug of war. We have better weight distribution and we can balance better on two legs than either of them. Throw in our understanding of the game and it would be fairly one sided.
Neither of them would be able to beat a guy as heavy as in this video anyway. The only reason this Orangutan doesn't fall at the slightest tug is because it's bracing itself against the lip at the edge of the platform.
@lordaten I'm guessing he means pound for pound, but even that sounds questionable to me. They definitely wouldn't have been stronger straight up, because they weren't anywhere near as big as we are. Stockier looking perhaps, but they were significantly shorter. You can see their skeletons mounted in many natural history museums if you're wondering exactly how much shorter. But the male one I saw couldn't have been any taller than 5".
To the person or persons who say this is animal cruelty is clearly wrong. She wanted to do this. Your not going to be alble to make an orangutan do something they dont want to. Besides, they are like us and like some competition. Did you see her celevrate when she won.
@Diedrich92 that's the beauty of the binomial nomenclature system of using Latin to assign names for all the different taxonomic groupings of species.
it's the universal scientific language. doesn't matter what language you speak in whichever country, people can still communicate efficiently about the same subject. despite whatever language you are referring to, monkey still does not equal ape.
would you call an iguana a crocodile simply because they are closely related?
i don't get why the put the monkey up against this guy .. yes he is heavy but most if not all of it is fat. FAT does not = strength.. i have seen many fat guys at my gym who lift far less than a skinny guy.
In conclusion if they wanted to give that monkey a challenge they should have put a power lifter like mariusz there
Well, maybe the orangutan is quite strong, but I think most of these monkey strongness bulshit are legends.I watched a movie on Discovery where they wanted to know if monkeys would work in a team to get food.So they put a stone that could not be lifted only from one side-so two monkey had to lift it.Well, not only they were stupid enough not to realize what to do-a single monkey could not even move the stone. Then a asian woman from the zoo came and lift the stone....What do you thing about that?
@WorldOfSnakes the fuck you said idiot? Me learn about something? You're the one claiming a smallest monkey can make a fucking hole in a coconut, what the fuck, are you stupid? They don't have steel fingers and the force of a fucking jackhammer, do you even know what a monkey looks like?
@WorldOfSnakes Dude, you are claiming a smallest monkey can make a fucking hole in a coconut with its FINGER. Have you ever even seen a coconut you idiot? I smashed coconuts with a hammer and it would hardly leave a dent in the shell, I threw a coconut against a fucking wall, and it made a hole IN THE WALL. You must be braindead to tell me to go educate myself after saying a tiny monkey can pierce that with a finger. What the fuck is wrong with you? Show me proof for it.
@WorldOfSnakes Is that your comeback you stupid piece of shit? Obviously you have nothing to say in your defense you idiot. You fucking stupid imbecile. Why the fuck weren't you aborted? Couldn't they tell your brain was still the size of the peanut, when you were about to come out?
@WorldOfSnakes There's a great difference between monkeys and apes. The smallest "monkey" is a pygmy marmoset and if you look at the size hell no they can't pierce a fucking coconut especially not with a finger. And dimitar you are stupid as fuck too. @ZXcannon you put it up far too black/white. weight AND strength matters. with 2 humans, someone with double the weight would probably always win, since the strength difference between those 2 cant be very big
but when you take a great ape who are climping trees all day long with one hand, the strength advantage is so big that it exceeds the weight disadvantage. thats what we see here
the reason why i think this may be fake is because it would be unethical if the unknowing ape got pulled down
@MuayThaiViking Muscle does matter. This is why a man can drag something which weighs much more than he. However, as long as the twice as heavy opponent has the ability to stand up, hold on to the rope and then heave back, the lightweight will never be able to stop this. They will simply slide, trip, or lose grip. It really is black and white. Tug of war is essentially a pan balance plus a few variables. Also, I agree on the ethics point of view.
@ZXcannon i actually agree if they stand on a flat area with no other grip than the grip they have around the rope.
but in this situation, the sumo and the ape has a bar where they can put their feet. this way they dont slide, you can see it at 1:08. if the ape has the strength in his legs to keep its feet behind this bar, its arm/back strength can be enough to pull the much heavier sumo, even if the sumo is also using the bar. remember how strong those animals are!
@ZXcannon This is where you are dead wrong. The ape has a base for its feet. Also you will not slide if you plant your feet hard into the ground. This is why a strongman can stop motorcycle in a tug of war despite the motorcycle being heavier. All your assumptions are wrong.
@TemplarX2 in general, more weight = more traction. the monkey would be catapulted off its base. the same can't be said for the sumo.. the sumo wrestler will always have the upper hand

why they have choose a sumo wrestler? they are just fat and can fight with his weight ! they should have take someone like schwarzenegger or stalone !
the reason the orangutan won is because human muscles, although capable of great strength are used by the brain predominately for precision and dexterity where as the orangutan's muscles are not used for the same purpose to such an extent
@tedszuman Apes are monkeys, and so are we, according to monophyletic classification. We are a sub-branch of the clade Simiiformes. There is no evolutionary justification for categorizing any species within the monkey clade as non-monkeys since clades are nested hierarchies. Phylogenetic hierarchy is the only consistent system of classification, relying on physiological traits is flawed. Not all monkeys are apes, however, just as not all apes are human. watch?v=tz52ivJgVx8
don't think it was a competition... think about it... They wouldn't have allowed the Orangutan to be put in the mud... cruelty and all that. From the replay shots it looked to me as if the man jumped wholeheartedly into the pool.

2:05 orangutan fuck you stare
banappleable 8 months ago
the reason the orangutan won is because human muscles, although capable of great strength are used by the brain predominately for precision and dexterity where as the orangutan's muscles are not used for the same purpose to such an extent

huh -_- orangutan really strong

You do realise that orangutans are about 6 times stronger than an adult decent trained male.

The Orangutan is a Great Ape not a monkey
tedszuman 9 months ago 74
@tedszuman Apes are monkeys, and so are we, according to monophyletic classification. We are a sub-branch of the clade Simiiformes. There is no evolutionary justification for categorizing any species within the monkey clade as non-monkeys since clades are nested hierarchies. Phylogenetic hierarchy is the only consistent system of classification, relying on physiological traits is flawed. Not all monkeys are apes, however, just as not all apes are human. watch?v=tz52ivJgVx8

Hey retards...humans are really weak in the animal kingdom.
Oh...and orangutans are NOT monkeys, they are apes. Monkeys have pre-hensile tails...apes do not.
The only monkeys around here are some of the talk-backers in here...never read so much ignorant stuff in my life...lol.
galactusz 10 months ago
@galactusz The talk-backers in here have pre-hensile tails?

Cant help but suspect it might be faked a bit, just doesnt seem like they would let a man drag an orangutan into a box of sludge on tv...
mrdanielsir 10 months ago
don't think it was a competition... think about it... They wouldn't have allowed the Orangutan to be put in the mud... cruelty and all that. From the replay shots it looked to me as if the man jumped wholeheartedly into the pool.
jonsabine29 10 months ago
fake the sumo is stronger
P90Recordz 10 months ago
the orangutan's board is way higher than the sumo dude's... it wouldnt get him good leverage like the orangutan's
