  • what's the software/application are u using?

  • how do u have more noteson the staff down the fret board????

  • huh? i watched that 7 times and still dont get it

  • THanks a lot dude

  • actually found something that helps. thanks.

  • i rly rly like your vids & i also learned a lil' bit yet. i also checked out your website, but i doooon't get how to read the notes & then play them on my guitar o_O it's so hard.. do i have to learn by rote where every note is on the staff and on my frets? thx!

  • How do u no Wat fret to play on?

  • i have a question to ask you how true this is - i read somewhere on the net here that the guitar notes are one octave lower than the actual piano notes. Therefore, if that is true, what you shown in your video clip on where the notes are will not then correspond to the fretboard on the guitar. what's your take on this?? thanks

  • @cruisebreeze its true. but don't worry about it too much. play the written pitch, but understand that it transposes an octave. Not a big deal

  • ttyl waste of time.... krap

  • it looked like a good video. But you need to zoom out all the moving around with the camera makes it very dizzying.

  • lol you said G sting! hahaha

  • Good. Thanks.

  • the biggest issue about this video, is that he's constantly moving around on the page. he should just zoom out a bit and stop moving the screen

  • Soooooo helpful thanks ;)

  • Extremely Helpful

    Wow

I really appreciate your free helpful infomation and I am sure I will be keeping this in my memory for the future

    Thanks again

    John

  • Aaaahhh! Why is this so hard for me. i can play guitar, but i can not read music. Actually i play guitar very well. But like i said i can not read music. Please help me or tell me what to do.

  • Aaaahhh! Why is this so hard for me. i can play guitar, but i can not read music. Actually i play guitar very well. But like i said i can not read music. Please help me somehow or tell me what to do.

  • what i don't understand is that there 5 lines on the treble clef and six strings on the guitar. please explain. how do you know what note for which string

  • @shake123ism go to my website and type in the search form 'applying notes'

  • @shake123ism it has absolutely nothing to do with strings, you can find many notes on the same octave on different frets on different strings, where you choose to play it is completely up to you, just do what's convenient for the song. sheet music is the same for every instrument (well, sort of...) its not meant to say anything about strings or how any instrument works.

  • @shake123ism you mean Stems?

  • Man.. you're the best. I've watched several videos... but your piece is crystal clear. Thumbs up.

  • Thanks bro, helped a lot. but is there anyway you can show hammerons, pull offs. and show how that would work with this?

  • Hi Walt, How do I know which string to play the notes on ? Say you have the D note which is the second line down on the staff, which string would I play this on? The problem I have is that the D note and all notes are on all 6 strings of the guitar and I dont know which string to use. I think the D note is higher because it is higher on the staff so I would use a higher string? Lastly, How do I determine if the music symbol is a chord verses a note? Thanks.

  • @arcticatcrossfire160 you can play it on a number of strings. go to my website and look up 'unisons' and 'connecting notes from sheet music to guitar'

  • @arcticatcrossfire160 if its a chord you see each note in the chord on top of eachother at the same time. the higher the D is on the staff, the higher pitch D note you play, but the sheet music has nothing to do with what string you play it on.

  • how can i get that template you made? it helps a lot :)

  • @mefonda10 sibelius

  • @samuel2k10guitar i'll try if iget time

  • you really cleared up a lot of questions i had. thank you!

  • I like everything about your teaching Walt! I am about to go check out your site. I totally appreciate everything that you have done for those of that can't afford to take lessons. THANK YOU!

  • @surffollybch yay!!

  • this is really confuzing me :/

  • @babyannabel123 ask me your questions. Or go to my website. Link in the video description

  • I've been able to read treble clef because I played clarinet for a few years, but this is helping with stuff like which E in the music goes with which octave E on the guitar. Thanks man!

  • Hey Walt, I checked your site.. Its the best site for learning how to apply notation to a guitar Thanks Walt.

  • @BURNSTAHANA thanks!!!

  • you should redo this lesson and explain how to find the note on the guuitar to the staff; how would you find D# on the 12th fret

  • @xavier1857 if i have time i will

  • how do you know the D was on the B string.? 6:02 thatswhere im stuck.

  • @GrantGoodale He doesn't necessarily mean that every time you see that D on a staff that you HAVE to play it on the 3rd fret of the B string. What happens is you work out what position you're in from the key signature and find the corresponding note within that position. Let's say you're in A minor, you'll be in the Fifth position and if the sheet asks you to play a D you'd just play that D on the 7th fret of the G string

  • @GrantGoodale walk up each fret. C C# D rspectivelty

  • @GrantGoodale the open string is B, the first fret is C, the next is C#, then the next one is D (the 3rd fret on the B string)

  • i would slap you through the screen if it didn't move around so fast

  • @branby1994 haha

  • thanks a lot dude. Very helpful

  • For the record, you can tune a guitar using resonance or beat. When you play the 6th string on the 5th fret, if the guitar is tuned, the 5th string will vibrate without even touching it, because it will resonate with the 6th. Also, if you play both strings and one of them is slightly out of tone, you'll hear a beat (the sound going up and down, sort of), so you can tune one of the strings to reduce the beat frequency, until there's no beat at all. Just a fun fact I saw on a physics video :)

  • @yondaime500 cool

  • what if i'm reading a stuff with a F clef how would I yield it with the G clef to form a guiat chord?

  • @sheena507 learn to read sheet music

  • Holy shit, I've been playing guitar for 3 years and I know a billion licks but i never got this basic stuff.

Now that I've watched this it all makes sense. :D

  • @EpicJasenTV same here lol

  • if this is confusing, buy this book i just got thats $6.00 its called Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 1. but it at Samash.com. it explains how to combind sheet music notes and the guitar. its real easy. i just got it and im learning really well.

  • I love most of your videos but this is too confusing please remake this lesson on a blackboard :)

  • love your videos. This one has really helped me.......

  • if you are a little attentive and you don't take ''mind time'' saying omg it is confusing omg it is confusing omg it is confusing........., you can appreciate this really understandable presentation. it as cleared things in my mind, thank you

by the way, you can re-watch this movie million times, if you dont get it on the first or second time.

    complaining little girls

  • sooo fucking confusinggggg!!! ahhh ima stick to drums for a while! i understand DRUMS A LOT BETTER!!! SO MUCH EASIER !

  • slow down

  • cool

  • lol thanks some people were like "lets go into rythem management" and then "follow me was we play ode to joy" and i didn't know how to read the notes i was like wtf? I'm starting to sort of get it now

  • 1:01 i came up with something for EADGBE. Every Acid Dealer Gets Busted Eventually

  • That was very good. You were the only person so far that actually got that deep into music theory. I have not read music for awhile and I certailnly appreciate your video.

  • Cool lesson. But just one thing ; according to what you said, on sheet music for guitar, the G-string will only be played open or used to play an A on its 2nd fret??

I know I'm missing out on something, please help me.

  • My head is dizzy.....

  • As much as i like the help from this video, all the moving around with the cursor hurts the eyes.

  • woahhhh... it all just clicked for me, half way through it! haha:)

  • @dancerboo101 cool

  • Youre a good teaxher thanks!

  • exactly what i was looking for. thanks for putting it down as simple as it can be.

  • Thank you Walt, you're an excellent teacher =]

  • Thanks a bunch. This was a great tutorial ,a real eye opener. 5*

But on another note, why do you have 3 repetitions of some and only 2 of another etc.

  • @theperformingguy112 what do you mean?

  • I like your video. It's very helpful. However, I'm a beginning bass player. Do you have a video about applying music notation to a bass guitar? Thanks

  • There is something I don't understand. For example, if I sing a low G note, I play a G chord on the guitar, but do I play the same chord if I sing a higher G note?

  • i love you so much

  • Good Job...Good teacher

  • after watching this a few times and gettin some books i will probably be able to comfrotably read music.really helpful video

  • @louiscfc93 cool!

  • i just want to know how i can be one of those ppl that can look at a note and play it and not have to hunt for it on the fretboard for 5 mins. does that just come naturally after playing or what can ya help me?

  • iv'e never been so confused in my life

  • Wow thank you so much for your work and time, i am learning!

  • Great instructon but I could not finish the vid. It made me a little sick to try to focus on the bouncing ball. LOL Maybe you could pan back so the pic does nt change so much. Thanks for your post!

  • Thanks great vid, can you please send me those diagrams please, just comment me and i'll send you my email. would be a huge help as i need to learn a piece for school and it has no tabs...

  • uh how do i write sharp notes because when i looked at the picture on your site there were no sharp notes...it goes straight from F to G without an F# in between..

  • Comment removed

  • dude thank u very much for ur videos for being a begginer i am already learning at a fater rate then my friends and now i also know how to play piano thank to u i have been recommending your videos to everyone.

  • @outlaw3789 aweome

  • so is it correct to say that the middle c on the guitar is actually the note c on the A string? which is also the third fret in A string? can someone tell me?

  • @93badfingers yes.

  • @93badfingers yes

  • the work that you do Walt is priceless thank you so much for the all videos.

  • best tutorial video ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is really comfusing...and hard to understand.

  • thank a lot, very clear.

  • Awesome, dude. Helped me a lot to understand the concept.

  • This is makeing me very sick because of all of the motion... I think it would have help me though if i could have watched it.

  • @k121188 sorry

  • It's scary how much I learned in those few minutes. Simply Amazing

  • @Tboie5000 cool

  • This is perfect!

  • This is just stupid. He is moving and talking way to fast to teach anything unless you go back and watch it over and over. And just zoom out so you won't have to move the page so much dude.

  • @ibanezrocker12 rewind button. use it

  • @ibanezrocker12 dude shutup at least he's taking the time and effort out to plan and give a really comprehensive lesson

go ahead and make one yourself instead of criticizing him if your so concerned

  • Well done dude! Very helpful. I've always played by ear but am now learing to read, thanks,.

  • @romienomie cool

  • thanks for the video, but I got little headache following the arrow

  • im not going to remember this!!

  • Now to try & memorize this...XO

  • wow I aculy understand this

    your a good teacher !

  • great video walt, just a question tho, are the notes always like you show in this video? For example, if i wanted to play that D on the fourth line will it ALWAYS be an open D on the guitar? I mean are the positions like this? Because if they are, i'll try and memorize them, otherwise, i will never know where to play a note, i mean there are a lot of Ds on a guitar fretboard... hope u can clear that out for me haha, thanks for the video!

  • this doesnt work if you are trying to transcribe anything with a bass clef

  • ou are an excellent teacher walt. wish I had dicovered you sooner.

  • Thanks for helping me find this sir!

  • lol nice video, and sexy guitar drawing. lol

  • hey! this is really helpful! thanks!

  • is a 3 note chord a triad?

  • mhm

  • yes.

and depending on which note is the lowest in pitch each triad can be grouped into 1 of the 3 different inversions.

  • @telybilly yes

  • thats a good tutorial but i stll dont know the notes higher up on the fret board like if i was gonna read cannon rock by jerry c i still wouldnt have a clue wat to do lol

  • @k1ngey go to my website for notes on guitar

  • thank you so much! this helped me a lot!

  • F***,

    Thank you HEAPS!

    -Hamish

  • thanks so much

  • Could you possibly send me these pictures?

  • i liked it i know how to read music just im still a little lost about the 15..16...17...18 frets on guitar

  • for example the 12 fret is on the 6th string is an e note same with an open sth string. this goes for all strings on the 12 fret. so after the 12 fret you are just starting over to a ne octave on the same string. and there are also many other octaves that u can find on diferent strings

  • @Halo7Legend go to my website for more tutorials

  • wow ireally enjoy about your class...but dont know still how to go to high imean like notes ..15..16..17..18..--24 frets

  • @beckersteen21 go to my website for more tutorials

  • This was a somewhat successful instructional video. Things to do next time.

    1) Get rid of the jumpy camera

2)Identify how basic you are going to get for the viewers. You had moments of jumping in and out of explanations to cover very basic information that an aspiring music reader should already know.

    3) What about key signatures, timing, basic rhythm?

    4) Quarter notes, half notes, whole notes - No mention? :O

3 Stars! Keep it up, thanks!

  • @JaMaph sorry haha

  • im a lil lost now

  • I recommend doing all lessons on your dry erase board. They are much easier to follow, The computer is too zoomed in then you jump around really fast makes it hard to follow.

  • @ak231510 haha ok!

  • On the guitar diagram, is the the F on the E string played on the first fret? Does each space on the guitar diagram represent a fret?

  • @NekoKabegami yes

  • thats good but a little fast

  • Thanks! This is the best video for learning about guitar music, i especially needed the pic actually showing where the note on paper is on the actual guitar neck. Thanks dude

  • @adstr123 go to my website for more tutorials

  • Thanks for the help on learning to read notes!

  • Thanks dude i needed this for guitar 1.

  • sooo dizzy but tremendous video

  • Excellant! Thanks!

  • tnx for the vids man i love em!

  • u r a legend ! thx

  • Thanks man, you have no idea how much this has helped me with learning notation :)

  • @Beeflane go to my website for more tutorials

  • u know i repeatedly watched the tutorial and its quite confusing but i learned a lot....thanks dude!

by the way, i'm a beginner...

  • @carbuncle77 go to my website for more tutorials

  • thanks, this was really helpful.

i used to play violin so i know the basics of notes, but this really helped for my guitar learning.

and for those who say it goes by too fast, it's easier if you draw his diagrams that he has while it's paused and then restart it and listen and look on your paper. it makes it so much easier :)

  • @paramorejunkie exactly

  • That is somewhat helpful. The only way I learn is to see whatever it is I'm stuck on explained by many different people.

One thing though... the constant panning in this video is really distracting. However, I wanted to thank you since I had a couple of questions answered here.

  • @YTcomic sorry

  • what is a natural sign in music?

  • A natural is a note that has it's own sound. Even though it has the same fingering.

  • @sweetypie4321 no. a natural is neither sharp nor flat

  • @jmd182 more about that on my site

  • so this g is the g there, and then that g isn't? hahahahah...

  • @ksaajasto haha what?

  • how do you write for example A# on G string for example is there some type of note for that?

  • @alexc475 no. because of unisons, the a# can be played a few different spots on the guitar. strings are up to the performer

  • question someone who knows musc notation do you read the abcdefg by couting from the low to high e and then?

  • @alexc475 confused by the question

  • your videos helped me alot but im confused on how you know what string to play? in the drawing you have it says D but you said to play the B string? can you help me understand a little better?

  • thanks

  • Wow, I'm the ONLY person who just couldn't get this. And dude, you talk so fast and that little green ADHD ball? I'll just be movin' on, thank you.

  • @KonaSitkaRose more about this on my website

  • the best way to read music an play it on guitar.. is not that.. but knowing the scales in the guitar.. and then according to the signature of the song you're playing it will be easier..

  • 0:43 BEAUTIFUL (xDDD) G-key!!!

  • I agree xD it's not even on the right line xD
