Alesi's tyres were shot, and Schumachers were much fresher. Also considering that Schumacher had a better car than Alesi, it really wasn't going to be hard for Schumacher at all.
alesi was on a 1 stopper. his tyres were down to the limit.
micheal was on a 3 stopper and he had rubber in good condition. but still he passed alesi in a tiny chicane in the last lap .... no one tought that that is even possibly. because alesi was a crazy man to who wasnt willed to give way easily
I still remember this race, schumi is probably one of the best guys who can close the gap to the others during the race to this little or even overtake them to take the win.
They were on very different strategies for that race- Alesi's tyres were finished at this stage, Schumacher's were fresh. Jean deserved the win having given an incredible performance early on in the race starting with slick tyres on the wet track.
it was just alesi's good will to let him trough....
