  • mccains like bush's second term, hes trying to scare us into voting for him

  • oh god the liberal black man will eat my child, better vote for the creepy guy with huge jowls

  • o no obamas black shadow is going to engulf my babies!!!!!!!

  • Thats bullshit under Obama's plan if you make under 250k/year you will at the most experience no change in your taxes and most ordinary people will actually get a tax cut greater than McCain's

  • What Hog wash!...go home Johnny Boy

  • The 'Maverick' is ridin' off into the sunset.

    So long, Johnny.

  • Wow. Lies, smear - blood-red dome. The chief tool of the neocons is fear.

  • Didn't McCain vote for the Wall Street package? Sounds like he's trying to have it both ways.

  • Stop lying Senator!!!

  • adjohnson916, you clearly work for Obamanation. That or you read his talking points daily. The gov took in more revenue under Bush tax cuts than Clinton's tax hikes. Besides 0bama will increase the budget by trillions with his "promises". There is no rebate check in the world to fight that debt. You failed to mention millions of those tax breaks will go to non-tax payers (welfare) and illegal immigrants.

  • Really? Maybe steeper inflation and normal economic growth contributed to those revenue figures. Anyway, you guys are inconsistent. The other guy here said: "And you need to read more. Clinton and the 90's Democrats were the biggest advocates of deregulation in our nation's history." Biggest deregulators = taxes hikes? I don't get it.

  • On the budget...you know that the Clinton democrats balanced the federal budget after the conservatives Reagan and Bush Sr. got us into debt, but as soon as W. Bush came into office was saw all that debt we'd repaid and all the effort we put into the economy go to waste.

Conservatives gave us $500 billion in an unnecessary war, $900 billion in bailing out a failing deregulated economy ripe with corruption and greed, from the mortgage crisis & risky investing to corporate loopholes.

  • How can non-tax payers and non-citizens get tax breaks? If they don't already pay taxes they aren't getting any tax breaks...

Also, on the rebate check. I'm sure you supported this to strengthen the economy because it was a conservative's policy? But when Obama proposes lightening the tax load for the middle class as a sort of yearly "rebate check", you claim he's a socialist and that this will crash the economy. And thanks for maintaining a civil debate with canned mockeries of Obama's name.

  • I appreciate, adjohnson916, that you are a stat junkie but let me offer some common scence. You acutally think the average household family makes $50k? That would mean they were in poverty. any statistic can be scewed. They include college students and singles. My sister and her husband bring home $200,000 and have a daughter and can't afford a house in California. I don't trust anyone's rhetoric that didn't even show up to vote! Check Obama's campain team..the problem.

  • Well sorry, but I'm going to have to throw the facts at you again. The US government sets the 2008 poverty level for any American household with under 7 people in the $20k's. If you think $50k for a family of four is in the depths of poverty, I'm not surprised you oppose progressive values because the "impoverished" families you know are actually the average American household (even though the average family is struggling economically these days too). Sorry but you don't know much about poverty.

  • It is good to see the McCain campaign call out ALL the taxes Obama will raise. Challenge the myth that if you earn less than $250k you will not be sending any more money to the government. ($250k for a family is middle class in some states) With the news of the government failing to protect us from big company corruction, why do we want to give the government more power?

  • Obama's goal is to reduce taxes for the middle class. He will arrange things so that this does happen, and is not trying to slip any taxes under our eyes as McCain suggests.

$250k is far from middle class, maybe upper-middle class in the wealthiest states. The 2007 median annual household income was $50k, with less than 10% of households making above $250k (Census Bureau).

McCain = deregulation. Look were that got us (market & bank failures).

Obama will enforce protections & save the economy.

  • That's his lie, not his goal. You cannot expand government without more money. Obama wants to expand government and is using the classic lie of "I'll do it while lowering your taxes", and people stupid enough to believe him (known as Democrats) further that nonsense. Democrats raise taxes, reduce the military, increase government, and engage in social engineering experiments. We don't need them to have MORE power.

  • He has outlined exactly how he will fund all of his proposed programs. By repealing the unprecedented Bush tax cuts on the wealthy, and de-emphasizing the failed trickle-down economic philosophy. As I recall, the last time our economy was stabilized and strong was under Clinton, a (gasp!) Democrat.

He will lower middle class taxes. Look it up.

Yes, Democrats make bloated military efficient and end unnecessary wars. Unless you're a neocon, this aspect of the Dem platform should appeal to you.

  • And you need to read more. Clinton and the 90's Democrats were the biggest advocates of deregulation in our nation's history.

  • Smart & calculated deregulation versus blind, ideological deregulation.

Whatever Clinton did worked better than both Republican Bushes. Of course the economic scene is different after 8 years of neocon havok wreaked, but I bet Obama hopes to emulate many of the proven Clinton policies. Obama praises what he did for the economy and the middle class.

It was Repbulicans who ran against Clinton's success in '96, against his VP in 2000, against Hillary in the primaries, and now against Obama. Fail.
