  • Good thing I didn't do this before Apple issued a recall on certain 1st-gen Nano's for battery-overheating issues. They're exchanging my 6-year-old Nano for free. Who knew? I was about to drop the thing off at Goodwill because it currently lasts less than 10 minutes unplugged. I've got plenty of devices to plug in at home; I need one I can carry around. Now I'll be able to do that again.

  • why fuck around with soldier .. i suck at soldiering always mess it up and the electronics don't work after...

cant you just clip the wire near the old battery and hand wrap the wire to the new battery ?

  • @MaTchBoOkPoEt smart

  • @DarkRaven118666 make sure ya use electric tape to wrap it .. the black kind.. or it might short something out

  • omg is this narrated by buffalo bill from silence of the lambs? (put the lotion in the basket!!)

  • @harimahavok Ebay

  • I'm more impressed that his voice sounds altered but the voices on the TV in the background are unchanged. So this proves conclusively that Satan is also an expert in Ipod battery replacement. He's the real deal. Thanks, Beelzebub.

  • Well I didn't know if I could do this. I am kind of all thumbs but NANASTUBE is less than three days old and was able to do it so I will give it a try.

  • well, I saw this and thought,,I can do that! I bopught a battery from ebay-$3 and I bought a soldering iron for another 3 bucks and presto! ...It worked. Thanks for this video!

  • I am 61 hrs old and I accomplished opening the nano and solered it back on . This is the first time I have soldered.I was patient and finally got it done. I put it back together and it works.I don't think you will hurt the circuit board if all u touch is the solder points.you have to hold down on the new wire on the board solder point and it finally will attach.I didn't think I could follow thru but I did it.do get it apart easier I put the tool by the dock opening and started there to get it t

  • If you do not de-solder from the board, and solder directly back onto the board, but splice the battery in, you are making it MUCH worse. Not only must you then insulate the 3 connections, but you will have to work much harder not to use too much solder, which will create a lump inside your nano, which apple never intended. Besides, if poorly done, your spliced soldering may give way after about 2 years because it had to be jammed into a tiny space.

    Excellent video!

  • i don't want to solder. will connect wires instead... if i can get my ipod opened. ordered 400mah battery and tools on ebay. both tools broke before i could even pry one side open.

  • i'd be scared to take my ipod apart, i'd rather buy a new'un tbf.

  • most useful tutorial ive found. thanks for the no bullshit. and the voice is killer.

  • how much mAh does the original battery have?

  • sounds like jigsaw lol

  • whats the soldering iron wattage your using ?

  • Man, the BATTERY is soldered in place! That's dumb! The only thing stupider would be a light fixture that requires removal of 4 decorative molding pieces and 20 screws to replace the light bulb!

I mean, they have to know that batteries eventually die, it should just plug into the board with a connector thing

  • u kinda remind me of the nurdrage guy

  • my "lock" switch doesn't seem to work. any ideas on how to fix it? like which part tells the ipod what or what not to do?

  • Guess he's afraid Apple will sue him for telling people how to mod their products. Either that, or he's a wanted felon.

  • it's not illegal, it just viods warranties.

  • After trying this twice I bet the success ratio has to be around 10 percent.

  • thats the voice you get from smokeing

  • loooool horror voice

  • Your voice sounds absolutely ridiculous.

  • who cares whatt the voice sounds like, all I care is that the video really has great information contained about a battery replacement procedure.

  • Este vídeo é uma grande merda!!!

  • Your voice sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger from True Lies...Awesome video.

  • thank you very much for the information. We have replaced the battery successfully.great video.

  • Thanks Satan..i Mean consolezombie

  • A great video and your website has good prices! I'm getting a new battery for my bros 1G Nano and a new battery for my Video as well as a new faceplate for it. :D

  • do i need to use rosin solder or can i just go ahead and connect it

and did it work when you were done with the installation

  • buth then how do you get your ipod back together? the case I mean

  • dude ur voice is scary lol

  • All Zombies Sound Scary

  • Great tutorial! I just bought a battery, and this video helped me install it without any problems at all, so thanks for making it :)

  • I bought solder but found that I didn't need any - I used the solder that was already on the iPod. Would be good to have a small amount just in case.

It worked perfectly when I was done - it's been working fine for a couple of months now. The battery life is as good as I remember it when I first got it. Well worth doing considering I was thinking of buying a brand new iPod!

  • ok thanks it worked :)

  • dude wats with ur voice?

  • i think he edited his voice because battery replacement is illegal.

  • is it? explain

  • Thanks a lot.... I got my battery wires cut and I don't knew how the 3 wires was.... I know now.

  • VERY useful and clear video - Thank you

  • i flushed my old BATTERIE from my ipod in the toilet lol

  • haha lol ur voice 5/5

  • cool voice

  • where i can find the green think?

  • It comes with Ipod battery or you can use Guitar pick.

  • is it risky soldering strait onto the terminals where the old battery went?

which would be the easyest/safest way?

    thanks

  • Hi can you advise me, i replace battery in nano it will charge when in mains socket but when i take out it dies.

also like message below another nano my partner replaced battery to gets very hot and screen gets heat spot after 10 mins on charge but holds charge for 10 mins before dying.

When soldering wires of new battery to board no whires touch logic board at a loss can you advise thankyou

  • creeeeeepy voice

  • This was informative, but is there a way to avoid soldering?

  • Yes, to avoid soldering, simply cut the wires NEAR the old battery. Strip (remove the insulation) about 1/2" from the old wires, which are still soldered to the ipod. Strip about 1/2" from the wires of the new battery and twist them together tightly with the same color wires. Insulate with scotch tape, being sure none of the bare wires are touching each other OR anything else. Just fold and flatten them and finish putting case back together.

  • Ah, thank you. :)

  • Luke, I am your father.

    Love,

    Darth Vader

  • More like Buffalo Bill from "Silence of the Lamb"

  • could you cheap out and just splice the old/new battery wires so you dont gotta solder

  • I may be old but does anyone remember those old Tiger tape recorders.

Like the one used in Home Alone 2 I had one and it had a switch to slow down the tape and ANYONE could sound like this XD.

  • Wait smoking dodn't change your voice!

  • Lol

  • How did you edit your voice?

  • smoking

  • @ConsoleZombie So we'll all sound like mice if we don't smoke

  • @Darkspy987 its smart, hes like 5, but he altered his voice so people pay attention

  • That makes a lot of sense.

  • Luc i am your father

  • Noooooooooooooooooo

  • cool voice dude

    LOL!! :)

  • So if I were to solder the new battery's wires to the old one's instead of directly to the board, just solder the wires together, that simple? If I were to tape them together, would that even work, and what kind of tape would I use?

  • I guess you could do that but why not just solder the new wires to the board? Not sure about tape.

  • for the novice

i would recommend soldering the new battery to the existing wires rather than directly to the board.

too much heat could damage the board. shorten the wires on the ipod and shorten the wires on the new battery. then you can solder them without hurting the board. you could also just twist them together and tape them if you don't have a soldering iron.

    Thanks for uploading.

  • can u really just twist them together? doe sit work 100 %?

  • twisting and taping is possible, tape it good, but i would recommend buying a $8 soldering iron and practicing a little before soldering.

  • How would you shorten the wires on the ipod and keep it connected? Don't you need those 3 wires to stay connected. Can you send me a message, I don't understand this fully.

    Thanks.

  • As it says in the video you use a soldering iron to separate the old wires and attach the new wires. If you don't know what that is I suggest you hit google and do lots of reading before you open up your ipod.

  • Which part?

  • hard to understand
