This is seriously fantastic. I think it may be my favorite rendition of this song, which is saying something, as I've tracked down as many recordings of this I could find. The emotion the choir brings to it is deeply moving. I never cry, but this recording gets tears in my eyes every time. I can't imagine what it would be like to actually be there in person.
The speaking solo had to be a lot slower, but overall, a good performance. At times, you were singing the band version (lowered down a half step) though.
I love this song, gives me chills every single time, everything just fell into place. And i still can't believe it is our choir singing it, I believe and know we sound absolutely amazing i can't get over it!
This piece was originally written for my High school Choir Director, Dr. Jocelyn K Jensen in Las Vegas NV. We were the first to perform it in 1993. This is one of those songs that is truly touching. When you sing it you really lose yourself in it. I wish there was video to go along with it.
You know the funny part about that is for the last two years she has adjucicated the Orem High Choirs at the festivals we compete in. When she heard this song she came and told us its history and then she sat down. She said that she thought we did amazingly for a highschool choir and she had no improvments for us.
My school is performing this song tonight. I had the honor of listening to it during my study hall while I dedcided to go to the auditorium to listen. I thought it was beautiful. I think our group did amazing with the pitches and everythig, but they sort of messed up the snapping part. Still it was amazing. I there an Mp3 of this song professionally recorded somewhere? I'd love to get it.
If you look up BYU university singers they did this and they are about as professional as you get! In fact Eric Whitacre actually from what I have been told records all his pieces with them when he wants them recorded!
We did have a lot of talent but I bet you can pull it off. Does your school go on tour for choir? This choir really didnt have it all down until after we toured. It was because of the tour the choir really bonded and camed together and realized how cool the song really could be. Then when they got home it really came together for them. SO if you dont go on tour find a really fun activity to do that lasts the day and will help people bond.
It sucks that you can't really hear the snapping though. That is my favorite part of this song.... :] We are doing this for festival in Hawaii at Green Valley High School in Vegas, and every time our choir has done it it has started either raining or snowing, so I'm excited to see if it does it again!!!!!!!!! XD
Gave me chills just listening to this... So well done! Man... Especially the beginning where there is rampant talking... I was like, Holy Jeez!.... Awesome!
