@FOX11GUY Yeah ofcourse they can break windows. But did you hear what they said? That the only problem was the noise. The boom was not powerful enough to break the windows. They were flying too high.
Just watched it tonight on discovery. When that aviation expert first reported the big hole in the wing due to the exploded rubber tire you would have thought some entity would have done something about protecting the vulnerable underbelly of this beast. Pay us later rather than pay us now. Is this the human condition.
How petty must America have been to scuttle this fine machine purely because it was "noisy". Like America's SST was not going to be just as noisy? I'm pretty sure 'noisy' was written on both score cards.
This was purely sour grapes,
The Concorde would have turned a profit from day one if the Yanks hadn't deliberately fucked it up.
And where is their SST? I dunno, is it in a museum somewhere? Did they even build one?
Poor concorde...after billions of pounds of development, it was "sold" to British Airways at 1,659 pounds and 35 pence. One pilot's chair costed 80 million pounds!!!!France and Britain could not get a single customer and they ended up 'donating" their pride to their respective national airlines. At the time , travel demand was booming.Boeing went for size.Anglo-french thought speed was sexier.Americans won! Again with Boeing 707 versus VC10.707 won.Now it is a race of A380 vs B787..guess who wins
@MrTrueFinn No doubt Europe has. I was using the history to extrapolate with today's knowlege of the market. Boeing has already over taken Airbus in the order books (read industry current affairs). Time will tell !And as if the Euro isnt already embarassing Europe, the new carbon tax will only result in trade wars with China,Mid East and USA (the largest Aviation growth market put together) against it..its no brainer who stands to lose between the two Aircraft goliaths.
Comcorde did have an accident, (well there could have been) in one flight there was a hole in one of the wings on concorde and a passenger spoted it, the plane would fallen down if it wasn't for the passenger
@kofinp I doubt Concord would have taken off with a hole in its wing... It only had one accident when it hit a bit of scrap metal on the runway during take of. The scrap metal had fallen of a US airliner and burst Concords tire. Improvements were made to make Concord safer but it lost its customers.
We now have the technology to make Concorde better in every way that could have alleviated concerns about the environment & noise pollution. But there's no market, everyone wants to go to their destination as cheap as possible, rather than as fast as possible. So now future generations are deprived of supersonic travel!
@sketchyinc and almost all modern airliners are still based on the 707 layout. The 737NGs are in fact just a 727 fuselage but with grandfather rights. Progress.......
@kofinp What? Dangerous? Apart from the Air France crash (due to debris on the runway, not a failure of the aircraft), Concorde never had an accident!
@soverato3. not really. just because it's Nose was longer dosent mean it could carry more passengers. i still wish the tree huggers of the world had'nt ruined teh dream. they make me sick!
@kad85 It is really pity that it is retired, no doubt it was a majestic beautiful bird in the sky, and this step was not because of Americans jealousy but high maintenance cost and few more technical reasons.
@WingsOTWorld Listen to him carefully. He wasn't scared of flying, he was scared of flying at MACH 2 at the edge of the atmosphere in an unfinished, uncertified flying prototype. He was on a promo tour in a flying proof-of-concept, that's why Concorde was stuffed with technicians.
@jakeylaird - they all went to muesums. There are three or four in the UK, a similar number in France, one in Germany. I think there are also 2 in the USA. I don't think any of them will be scrapped
We miss you Concorde:(

The Concorde were a marvel of an aircraft, marred by the rising fuel cost and environmental conciousness.
I wonder how long it'll be, if ever, before we see another supersonic airliner. I doubt there is a market to carry the development cost.
