i def think the way that scousers speak has sumthing to do with the way they sing so well ... lennon/macartney lee mavers .james skelly and more recently miles cane and loads more.. think mavers voice was the best thow pure emotion in every word..
This is one of my favourtie songs of all time. The lyrics "I am the key. you are the door. I am the sea, you are the shore" Are so painfully obvious they are the best poetry than can be written. I hope someday Lee Mavers will make another record x
@mlidis I couldn't agree more. The lyrics are simple, but the way they are sang are so effective. Lee makes it seem so easy to write, maybe it is for him.
one of many unbelievably great songs written by mr. mavers...check out the Kitchen Tapes...if these songs were released proper it would have been one of the greatest sophomore albums ever
Not 'wasted' anymore- they are reforming, although not with all the original members, and releasing another album. Anyway, what was a waste about releasing 1 perfected album? What could have been is that, as Britpop got into swing in the mid 90s, they'd have been seen as a bit separate, going their own way as The Stone Roses did and older generations (punks etc) would still have given them no more due because they were probably too clean cut in sound for their tastes
this band had so much tallent i think it could have rivaled the beatles for depth and body of work! they were that good but with genius comes flaws!!! mavis was so good at what he did, he wanted perfection every time!!! the only problem was, he found it in there she goes.. that song is the perfect pop song... the la's album (only one btw) was so good i rate it as top five of all time! come on mavis get your guitar out and write another one!!
there's actually 2 versions of the entire self titled album because of mavis' unrelenting search for perfection. to say he found it in there she goes wouldn't even be 100% true
i know, when i say he found perfection in there she goes it isn't because its the greatest musical piece of all time... what i ment was it was a piece of music that captured a moment but never aged, it was a song that in its own right is perfect yet flawed because it is simple and catchy its also "simple and catchy"! it's a contradiction to everything that should be bad but is good....
What im trying to say is that for mavers this song is the let it be or wonderwall of it's generation!
innit!you've had that quote from the deluxe edition yeah?what you reckon of the mike hedges version?init mad how different producers get such different interpretations of the tunes!yeah killer tune..have you heard 'somethin i said'?another belter!i've got loads of live albums of em an all goin back as far as 87 in liverpool doin an incredible version of jumpin jack flash!i hope he releases some more stuff, its a massive shame if he don't!
is right my old cocker..the goodheads have got a site via'lee mavers' on google wi somethin i said, human race,an i think, raindance or somethin!'put out your love and..come fill your fishin net'(somethin i said)what a fuckin pearler of a tune init!have you read the macefield book la?
first heard this when this concert was aired thought it was brilliant still is beautiful in it's simplicity! apparantley written on the way down to this gig! mavers scouse mozart!
lee why are people of great musical genius always completly crazy? i mean, this band could have been where oasis are now! bigger i think, i mean oasis are great but noel don't write son of a gun, timeless melodies etc!
wubbsy67-u were there? respect mate, tho prefer the 1 in london 05,but wud of sold me nan 2 c them live, actually seen mavers tonight in the off licence,c him all the time, sat in there praccy room with them..not playin(me m8 was drummin 4 them 4 a while)dnt compare 2 seein them playin tho
IT'S AVAILABE NOW ON ITUNES!!! Also, there is a new deluxe edition album with multiple song versions of countless other songs, including like 4 versions of "There She Goes" I prefer the instrumentals to Mike Hedges version. Awesome dude.
For some reason I can't post the link on here. w w w . t h e l a s . o r g (crude spacing :), obviously you don't include them) is the website anyway, sign up, go to the download forum and enjoy.

i'm betting that the record label and Steve Lillywhite were not terribly happy when this track wasn't included on the LP.
easily a single and a hit.
one of the great bands of late eighties/early nineties.
Noel Gallagher said he wanted to pick up where the La's left off.
Oasis vs. The La's?
no contest.
without the Oasis mob coming anywhere near 'em.
