You're talking like you think Exxon-Mobile controls the price of oil, but Exxon only pumps 2% of the world's oil. OPEC, Russia and other state run oil producers control the bulk of flow. Is the price coming down? I doubt it. Let's start with not going up any more because it's driving up the cost of EVERYTHING we buy from food to fun. That hurts everyone...rich and poor alike because we all spend most of what we make.
BTW...who the heck do you think makes up an oil companies employees and share holders? Robots? Anyone with a 401k or retirement fund (most own oil stock). "They" are most of us to one degree or another. Yes, there are some fat cats at the top of the pile...just like any pile from your local school district to the government. A corporation is made of of people who work each day to provide for their families. Stockholders are not all big shots, but also little guys like me.

I'm not a fan of government monkeying with the market place, but there have been successful infrastructure projects that do make a difference such as Hoover and Grand Coulee dam. Subsidizing an inefficient solution is stupid. Facilitating the construction of a good solution with a solid return on investment may be our best option.
I'm all for new ideas. What do you think we should do to provide energy for our country?
Good points. Maybe the large dam projects were good, although after reading Cadillac Desert, I am not so sure it was worth it. In answer to your question: Nothing, if by "we" you mean the government. I think a combination of conservation, new technologies and clean energy will do it. BUt with the accrued and diverse intelligence of a free marketplace. not centralized command policies. Also, we will have to consume less energy. I just believe we have gotten used to way too much cheap energy.
"we" as in "we the people". Government is not the solution, it's the problem. RE: Ethanol. When you say "consume less energy" do you mean do without and strive for a lessor lifestyle and/or way of life? Since America began we have always worked to provide a better life for ourselves and the next generation. It's more then a tradition, it's the American dream. No more dreams? It's tough to get excited about having a lower standard of living tomorrow then we have today. Yeee Haaa!
If i can bike to work, or drive an EV without emissions that is an improvement in my lifestyle. We don't consume energy for its own innate properties but because of what it does: heat, move, illuminate, transform, assist. If we can acheive these in a more sensible and efficient manner, what is the problem?
Agreed! If the goal is to do it better and more efficiently, I'm on board. Where I disagree with the situation is the premise that we can just choose not to do things. ...some things are optional like vacation, visiting family, etc. but a goal of getting by without the things we've come to love about life is a sucky proposition. I appreciate lights and I plan to lite my house with LEDs ASAP. I need to drive and both my cars get 25mpg...not a 100, but it's not awful.
Ahahaha the reason oil is so high is because of the failing american dollar to which it is pegged. OPEC is pumping full capacity and the market is saturated contrary to neocon thinly veiled war propaganda. Untilt he fed is abolished and they keep perpetucally pumping tender to cover the debt, nothing will change. We produce electricity domestically yet we saw what happened when the enron scumbags got a hold of it in california!..Becks usual bandaid coverup solution..what a fraud
