I don't care what anyone says. Phil Harris is still cool, smoking is still relevant, and you just TRY to beat the reliability of any 1950's/'60's Plymouth, I dare you.
Since this is a black and white kinescope, the original opening bumper (with the "Peacock") is missing: "The following program is brought to you in 'Living Color' on NBC, by Plymouth...". And this was the final episode of the "Plymouth" series, originally telecast on May 30, 1960.
Thanks for a RARE TREAT!!! :-) THAT'S WHAT I LIKE ABOUT YOUTUBE!! The talent here seems unrivaled today! Can anyone name an entertainer on a par with Phil Harris still alive?? I think the studio-computer-tweaked & tuned singers today would do well to trade their right arm for his stage presence! ;-) And Steve's comedy cast with Louis Nye, Jonathan Winters, Pat Harrington, Bill Dana, Don Knotts, Jane et al simply killed 'em dead! THANKS AGAIN FOR POSTING!! :-)

Phil Harris was the "king of cool"...no doubt about it. The only man who could have "possibly: gone 12 rounds of "cool" with Phil was Dean Martin. The two of them together... "pure American comedy GOLD!"
Thanks for the great Phil Harris! Mr. Harris filled in for the Glenn Miller Orchestra in Galveston, Texas when my parents went to see the show. Mr. Harris dedicated "That's What I Like About The South" to my mother.
Phil lived a looong time, even after singing that song! Who is the band? Did Steve have his own house band, or was this possibly folks from Phil's band?
my dad couldnt sing, so he loveed phil harris. i grew up with it. there's no one like him. i have always known all the words to this and all his songs, but its a thrill to actually FINALLY see Phil Harris Singing it. THANKS

One thing's for sure, Steve didn't go broke paying royalties to the composer of the title theme, he WAS the composer.

Dunno jac1503. Sounds like Hot Rod Lincoln to me. Great song, either way.

Merle Travis and Tex Williams co-wrote the song in 1947, which Tex recorded as a hit single for Capitol.

During the opening credits the announcer states that it's the North American Air Defense (NORAD) Command Band.

If you listen after that he's says the house band is Les Brown & His Band of Renown.

which year was this?

I would guess late 1959 or early 1960 since "Plymouth and your neighborhood Plymouth dealer invite you to see and drive the 1960 Plymouth!"

"Gasper" was slang for a cigarette. Phil Harris was one cool cat.

This is a great show, but I tried watching it and it has "skips" in it. Anything I can do to fix it?

About :28 in, you hear Steve's wonderful, self-penned longtime theme song.

This was during the period (1959-'60) when Steve was on for Plymouth on NBC's Monday night schedule [10-11pm(et)]...
