  • I disagree...and so did much, if not most of those in government, both then and today. Point is, there WAS a place the Constitution intended for these types of disagreements to be handled - the Supreme Court.   • I'm all for remembering the past in a historical context. However, the people I know that fly the flag or hang it up in their room are not doing a study of history, but are hanging it as a symbol of pride and respect for rebels who fought in the civil war.How can you have pride or respect for any man who fought against the United States? It may not be racism, but it damn sure isn't anything to be proud of. My ancestors fought for and funded the rebel cause and I have NO pride or respect in that.

  • @flight105 The signers of the DOI did not imagine they were exercising some pretended legal right of secession against King George. They exercised their natural right of revolution, and the made no excuses for it. In the eyes of the Crown, they were traitors. The confederacy declared its independence with an attempt to unilaterally secede, but no such LEGAL right existed. All they actually exercised was their natural right of revolution. They started a bloody war and lost.

  • @AaronJeromeMartin Because it printed in a book does not make it accurate. The older the records going back to as close to the time as possible- the better. Professor Emeritus Walker of ISU died 3 yrs ago and left a legacy of teaching texts and research. He was my daughter's father-in-law, and my grandson is the heir to most of those books. They tell a very different story that what is reflected in "modern" texts and online.

    And it is "their" and not "there", please.
