@angelicwrd Thats because Nelida Lopez, the girl who played "Whisper" isnt an Actores! She was an actual Gang member of the Echo Park street gang. The directors thought it would be a good idea if they casted an actual member of the gang to give the movie more of a reality to gang life. I remember watching the "behind the scence" special on HBO when the movie came out on video .. thats where they mentioned Whispers real identity.

Also she was waiting for him to get out of prision and the fact that he had been out not only didn't contact her but also was going around with other girls broke her heart.
