Hey Everybody! I have just released my new album "Unhinged" which is very inspired by my all time favorite musician Akira Yamaoka and his game soundtrack work. You can stream or download the whole album for free on my youtube channel!
This... is my favorite song in all of SH2. Despair, hopelessness, failure, and overall melancholy encompass James as the truth of the situation sinks in... He tried to save her, but in the end, he couldn't. Just as with his wife's illness, he was doomed to do nothing but watch, unable to help.
I reckon this is the song Maria hears, when James rejects her for Mary and kills her at the end of the game. she is left wondering why.....she did everything for him....she was everything he wanted....
This was so beautiful yet depressing in game. It was the first time I really saw a Silent Hill protagonist feel some genuine and heart felt pain over the death of someone in front of them. James suffered all he could, was punished enough. And he had to watch her go 3 more times after. . . I dont think in water is the real ending. James deserves better.
the best theme of silent hill , they must to put this theme on silent hill revelations again, i cried with this theme when i was playing and i couldn't believe when maria was gone, poor james
It's strange. Me and my mother were both playing this when it first came out, and we just didn't expect Maria to "die" right then and there. We kept thinking, "She's been with James since Rosewood Park, she can't die". So we were shocked, and even though I was hiding behind a pillow at the time watching my mom play.... I knew nothing bad was going to happen because of this song, like the ordeal was over in that hospital.... Akira Yamaoka is a brilliant artist, and I'm sure Kojima realizes that.
@RedDuke50 Maria is the Mary that James wanted. He was sexually frustrated, that's why Maria is dressed more provocative than Marry. James wanted Marry to be that way, and he got more frustrated when she was sick, and everyone knows the story. Also thats the reason you see several strange sexual scenes throughout the game (like pyramid head and the mannequin) although, Silent Hill is so open to interpretation, I could be dead wrong :)
@TheRandAaron I disagree, James was majorly in love with everything Mary was. It was just his sexual frustration that caused Silent Hill to dress Maria in a provocative way, to tempt him from his path of redemption. It's not that he wanted Mary to be a slut, he wanted sexual gratification which Mary couldn't give because of her illness. Silent Hill was provoking him since Mary had only died 3 days prior (but we don't know that yet), so James would have still been very tempted.
@KedViper Actually, some of what Laura said suggests that it's only been a matter of days: Mary congratulates her on her eighth (?) birthday, which she claims to have had only days ago.
@RDMonkey2 Well, whatever. It's just what matters in the story, meaning that 3 years is incorrect but the other details don't really mean anything, such as the theory that Mary's in his trunk. It doesn't add to the story.
@Rukaio3 You clearly haven't played the game. Laura tells James she turned 8 last week near the end of the game. James then realises he's read a letter FROM Mary telling Laura happy birthday. It is then James realises she couldn't have died 3 years ago. Play the game and come back to me.
@CainG88 I'm back and I'll have you know that I possess Silent Hill 1-4 and I have beaten all 4 of them several times already. I think I should have rushed though but I do remember that scene you are talking about. Also doesn't the first letter he recieved at the very beginning of the game vanish?
@aarmil02 Yeah, I just beaten Silent Hill 2 and I remember that part. It doesn't tell you the letter is gone but it's pretty neat to find out it is! :D Also CainG88 is right, Luara did turn 8 the week before the game and so Mary didn't die 3 years prior to the game. I like to think that Maria and Laura came from James mind. They both don't have last names and in the that one graveyard before the Eddie boss, they don't have a grave. Luara and Maria feel real even though they aren't.
@Rukaio3 I think Laura is a real person. She doesn't have a graveyard because she doesn't make sin, like 3 others. She's just being called to Silent Hill to make James relised Mary's not dead 3 years ago. If Laura was on James' mind, why can Eddie talk to her, why can't Maria catch Laura, cuz Laura can't see Maria, she's a real person while Maria's just in James' mind.
@HuzkyMe I like to think Laura is the person that shows us (the player) that James actually found Mary a little bit annoying at first but then started to have feelings for her. Look how James finds Laura annoying but then starts to care about her. Laura is probably a manifestation of the part of Mary that James did not like but ended up loving. Maria being someone "born from a wish" knew who Laura is because Maria is Mary but a completely different Mary.
@HuzkyMe During the cutscene where Maria is talking to James in a jail cell, she starts to tell him things only Mary and James himself knows. Maria also talks about how Laura will like some toys in a children's room in the Baldwin Mansion. Now that I think about it... what if Laura is actually the girl who fell off the window in the Baldwin Mansion? Ernest said she died when she was only 7. But then again Laura turned 8 a week before Silent Hill 2 so that can't be right.
@Rukaio3 You knows, if Laura is really from James' mind, she may look like someone James know, but he didn't, he doesn't know anyone looks like Laura or named like Laura. I think Laura's age is just a random coincidence. The reason Maria cares about Laura so much is because she's another version of Mary. Mary want to adopt Laura, so Maria may loves Laura too, though she didn't know who Laura was.
@Rukaio3 Unlike Laura, Maria is created by James' mind, so she must look like someone James know, Mary. James meet Maria at the Rosewater Park cuz he thought that he would meet Mary there, but she wasn't there so James unintentionally create a new Mary, as he want, sluttier and sexier like Maria. But Laura is different, her appearance is unpredictable, she can talk to Eddie, Maria can't catch her, she doesn't look like anyone James know. So Laura can't be a product of James' mind.
@HuzkyMe Maria is from James' subconscious and Maria is the Mary James wanted deep inside him. But also in "Born from a Wish" Ernest tells Maria that "He's looking for a you that isn't exactly you." He's talking about Mary, which further proves Maria is from James' head.
Laura's appearance is not unpredictable and Eddie does talk to her. Maria can't catch her because of the shoes Maria wears. :D
The thing is that Maria only talks to James. Maria also knew who Laura is before actually seeing her.
@CainG88 I'm back and I'll have you know that I possess Silent Hill 1-4 and I have beaten all 4 of them several times already. I think I shouldn't have rushed though but I do remember that scene you are talking about. Also doesn't the first letter he recieved at the very beginning of the game vanish?
You've lost everything, your home, family, friends, everything that was dear to you, all gone... You let yourself fall on your knees, feel a headache. You begin to cry softly, and then shout at the sky "Why must I suffer!?!?!?!? GIVE EVERYTHING BACK!!!!!!"...
@MrPlayLol they could not think of nomore ideas but i agree with u they should not sell it to czech cuz the game less scary now lol i like 2004 better konami made games scary.
i dont think any other game developer has attempted to focus so much on emotion as much as Silent Hill has, i think it's possibly a risky move, it was a different experience, and very enjoyable
I remember, I was trying to PUSH Maria into the elevator by running always behind her, to protect her, trying to save her. I tried a couple of times - always failed. Always behind myself.
@PedroShark Nooo....I can see it being shortened to Maggie more than Mary. Mary's last name was Shepard before Sunderland, and her name wasn't shortened.
silent hill is much more than a game...its life..life lessons and deprsession..the story and symbols just amaze me how much work is put in..akira is a god
The emotion, the fear, the music, the motion capture cinematics. Its funny how such simple mechanics, and newer developers fail to deliver. Gone are the days of silent hill. Gone are the days of terror, thank you for the ride. I think I'll bow out now. Time to head to the gym, and start a life of my own. I want to leave this place. But I see hope in the future.
First off, I never said I did not appreciate Silent Hill 1, I love it, it's a classic, but SH2 is still my favorite.Second off, It never says ANY WHERE at all if the town was left like that after Alessa, or if it was just how James saw the town. Silent Hill never explained that, it was left for us to think about. Everybody has their own "theory" of why the town is like that. I like to believe that it is just how James saw the town, and I could damn well be wrong, but still it's what I believe.
@Nudge009 it never says anything really... but that's not an excuse not to use objective reasoning. for instance, the little insect creatures are the same as the ones in SH1... it's logical to assume that after SH1, that's the reason the town is the way it is for James or at least has SOMETHING to do w/ it
if we're going to dismiss any possibility of absolute truth w/ an absolute counter-argument dismissal then there's no point in arguing
@rlytgs Grrrr....Alright, I'm giving up FOR NOW, so I can take some advice from a trusted Silent Hill Expert. My Sister. She taught me everything I know about Silent Hil. I WON'T give up till I win this argument. While I'm waiting for a response from her, I'll read over the Silent Hill Wikias and forums. Talk to you again soon. THIS ISN'T OVER.
dont talk like u kno :] i love this new fanism for people to try to separate SH1 from 2 as much as possible b/c they hate spiritualism and cant explain it
of course it all ties together whether u choose to except it or not why do u think the town was like that when James arrived? and dont tell me it was always like that because it wasnt even ur precious Lost Memories source supports that after the Alessa incident the town was never the same
@rlytgs Well..you have a point, but in all of Silent Hill 2 it never mentions how it came to be like that. The most popular theory is that Silent Hill is shaped on the main person's subconsious. Have you NEVER wondered why SH's layout is different in each game? Think about it.
@Firemoon454 have you ever realized how SH1 and 3 are the same person..? and sh2 is it's own special case with 4 not even being in SH and walter being influenced by the religion (also w/ one of the Order's deities being put inside of him)?
@rlytgs SH4 does have a loose conection to 1 and 3, but its only mentioned in notes. And yes I have realized that. SH2 was put in there to fill the gap between 1 and 3. 3 took place 17 years after 1.
Anyway I wasn't talking about the religous conection, I was talking about how Silent Hill affects people. Henry did go to Silent Hill at one point, but it didn't do anything to him because he didn't commit any sins. Henry was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
and my point was that that's not the case. we have SH1 - Leonard Rhine's Manifestation of Delusions (from stress, misery) which was obv alessa's case and that carried over to 2 and obviously 3 and walter is affected by valtiel (according to the game makers), which was related to the religion centered around alessa...
@rlytgs Uh...What? Your statement makes no sense. Why would Valtiel be conected to Walter? He was supposed to be the one guarded Heather(Alessa) who was "pregnant" with the "new god". After Caudia consumed the fetus god Valtiel took her body and turned her into the new god (I think) After which Valtiel was never seen again. You said yourself that SH4 has nothing to do with 1 and 3 other than the Order coming into contact with him as a little boy. Explain what you're saying again please.
i already explained to you... the creators said this in the SH4 Crimson Tome (like Lost Memories) - Jimmy Stone's right hand priest put their god's essence into walter sullivan's mind - the connection is with aleesa again!
@rlytgs Despite our differenses, I must thank you. I've never had such an invigorating Silent Hill discussion in months. Your expert knowlage is amazing on this topic. Its been fun talking with you, but this still ISN'T OVER.
@rlytgs HA! I just got a response from my sis. She'll check out our little discussion and give me her opinion. I'm tired, and don't feel like talking right now......talk to you later.....
@TheCannibal100 I think this song sounds pretty simple, you could probably teach it to yourself. Try listening to this while playing on the piano, listen to it a lot. You'll get it eventually:)
@Benfica4ever Exactly. Silent Hill layouts are based on the main character's subconsious and his/her personal tragedies in life. They all have their own different Silent Hill.
I believe every single one of us have an own silent hill...an own space, an own time, an own demon an and own angel...we feel like puppets in a meaningless life, in a mad world...Wish everyone could enjoy everyone...
It's odd.... you hear this song after Maria was just stabbed by Pyramid Head. James is all alone and the elevator doors open slowly. When I heard this song play, I was just glad that, for once, no enemies were around. There was only one path to go through. I felt so secure yet depressed that I had lost somebody that I couldn't save, no matter what I did... and then you go through the one door that's not locked.... I love Silent Hill. ^^
@DownRodeo Hmm...interesting thought, but I don't think He saw Silent Hill the way Rose, mother in SH1, did. You know, the decreped, monster infested way? He only saw it as an abandond and forgotten town thats falling apart. I agree with Kouzui, they should have based the second movie off the second game. SH2's storyline would fit perfectly as a movie. Who knows? It may turn out to be good....but still.
@blazemark Same here, At first I thought That if I had waited for her to reach the elevator before going in the outcome would had been different...tough luck there. ( And my last save point was at the complete beginning of the hospital AAARRGGH !!!! )
This song suggests a type of "false security" just like how this song started playing in the end of the movie. Strangely I feel the same way when I listen to this song.
@Kouzui I wonder why are are basing it off of the first movie? There's really nothing to tell. Rose and Sharon are dead, Alessa killed everyone (Expect Dahlia) What's the point of making it based off of the first movie?
@BoomerangJack22 What makes even less sense is that they have the perfect setup for the second game in the movie right now. He gets a letter from Rose, telling him she's waiting for him in Silent Hill...
This song makes me think tonight that, I am looking out the window at a white sky just sitting there relaxing for no reason like I am in some kind of Trance .
Wait wait..If they are making it a sequel to The movie Silent Hill then maybe like Rose (Plays a MARY figure) and Chris (James figure) Chris gets a note or goes to silent hill and it plays out like Silent Hill 2...
@SanniDog The problem with that is the only people who will want to see a movie based off SH2 will have already played SH2, and so the reveal that was so shocking when you first played it would have little of the same impact on the viewer.
On top of this, a faithful adaptation simply would not be able to fit everything in - if the execs think that Angela should be cut for time/pacing, she'd be cut, along with the idea of appealing to the audience. [continued]
@SanniDog [from continue] Let's face it; the majority of movie goers, and thus the majority of the cashflow and profit, do not want a story like SH2. They want heroes against monsters, guns a blazing, rescuing the damsel and all that, not psychological mindfuckery from the perspective of a grieving widower clinging to his last hope and memory of his wife.
Fuck it. If you want my lengthy reasons as to why SH2 will never be able to get a decent movie adaptation even if it really should, PM me.
@zhoban Jeez, you think I don't know that? I thought I made myself clear but looks like I didn't. Yeah, I KNOW this was the first time she died and I UNDERSTAND how sad it was. Doesn't make me hate Maria any less.
Sorry if this sounds hostile or angry; I did not intend it to be.
There not basing it off of SH2 because there's already a game of it. it would just be the same. But i also thought it was disappointing that there just going to continue it with Christopher...
This song makes me think of the aftermath of a huge war... Bodies strewn every where, blood covering the ground, swords, shields etc. cluttered on the floor... Someone staggers along, their clothes bloody and torn. They are the only survivor...
I love to see something like this in the 2nd movie. " Don't worry honey your not going to die you got me * Sounds of a spear being stuck in something and you see blood * ( Child: mommy ? ) " That alone is some sad ****
thinking to yourself, alone in a cold room... trying to forget the horrible memories, that fill your mind... the horror of the past, staining every bit of your life... never to forget, nor forgive...
I didn't know the scriptwiter for Silent Hill was in jail and they have waited a year (till now) for him to be released so they could start Silent Hill 2 the Movie. I really hope they start it soon and it was as good (or better) then the second one. Hope they make it epic!
yeah i know huh i wonder how it was like for james when he goes with her at the end if you get that one ending you know what im talkin about.well anyways that would be weird living with a dead chick and you didnt even know it.
From what I know of Silent Hill 2 I believe that Pyramid Head symbolizes the protagonist James in a inner demon kinda of way. Pyramid killing Maria symbolizes the death of *cough*.
Funny how people are having a discussion about RE in a SH posting XD They're both such awesome games. It's truly a shame that movies don't do them justice. I personally hated how SH movie tried to combine everything in one thing when they deserve individual attention!
Hopefully they will base the second movie on the plot of SH2 and it might be good, but the average movie-goer probably won't understand the story properly so they'll tone it down a lot.
I was hoping they'd base the second movie off of the second game too, but then I looked it up on Wikipedia and it said they're just continuing the story from the first movie.
I dunno, might be good but I'm pretty disappointed that they're ignoring the second game and trying to continue the plot of the first movie. It'd be better if they just started a new story.
So simple, yet so beautiful.

Nudge009 1 year ago
@Nudge009 it never says anything really... but that's not an excuse not to use objective reasoning. for instance, the little insect creatures are the same as the ones in SH1... it's logical to assume that after SH1, that's the reason the town is the way it is for James or at least has SOMETHING to do w/ it
if we're going to dismiss any possibility of absolute truth w/ an absolute counter-argument dismissal then there's no point in arguing
rlytgs 1 year ago
@rlytgs Grrrr....Alright, I'm giving up FOR NOW, so I can take some advice from a trusted Silent Hill Expert. My Sister. She taught me everything I know about Silent Hil. I WON'T give up till I win this argument. While I'm waiting for a response from her, I'll read over the Silent Hill Wikias and forums. Talk to you again soon. THIS ISN'T OVER.
Firemoon454 1 year ago
@rlytgs But....SH2 has nothing to do with SH1. Other than the town they're both completely different. Alessa isn't in SH2.

dont talk like u kno :] i love this new fanism for people to try to separate SH1 from 2 as much as possible b/c they hate spiritualism and cant explain it
of course it all ties together whether u choose to except it or not why do u think the town was like that when James arrived? and dont tell me it was always like that because it wasnt even ur precious Lost Memories source supports that after the Alessa incident the town was never the same
rlytgs 1 year ago
@rlytgs Well..you have a point, but in all of Silent Hill 2 it never mentions how it came to be like that. The most popular theory is that Silent Hill is shaped on the main person's subconsious. Have you NEVER wondered why SH's layout is different in each game? Think about it.
Firemoon454 1 year ago
@Firemoon454 have you ever realized how SH1 and 3 are the same person..? and sh2 is it's own special case with 4 not even being in SH and walter being influenced by the religion (also w/ one of the Order's deities being put inside of him)?
rlytgs 1 year ago
@rlytgs SH4 does have a loose conection to 1 and 3, but its only mentioned in notes. And yes I have realized that. SH2 was put in there to fill the gap between 1 and 3. 3 took place 17 years after 1.
Anyway I wasn't talking about the religous conection, I was talking about how Silent Hill affects people. Henry did go to Silent Hill at one point, but it didn't do anything to him because he didn't commit any sins. Henry was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Firemoon454 1 year ago
and my point was that that's not the case. we have SH1 - Leonard Rhine's Manifestation of Delusions (from stress, misery) which was obv alessa's case and that carried over to 2 and obviously 3 and walter is affected by valtiel (according to the game makers), which was related to the religion centered around alessa...
rlytgs 1 year ago
@rlytgs Uh...What? Your statement makes no sense. Why would Valtiel be conected to Walter? He was supposed to be the one guarded Heather(Alessa) who was "pregnant" with the "new god". After Caudia consumed the fetus god Valtiel took her body and turned her into the new god (I think) After which Valtiel was never seen again. You said yourself that SH4 has nothing to do with 1 and 3 other than the Order coming into contact with him as a little boy. Explain what you're saying again please.
Firemoon454 1 year ago
i already explained to you... the creators said this in the SH4 Crimson Tome (like Lost Memories) - Jimmy Stone's right hand priest put their god's essence into walter sullivan's mind - the connection is with aleesa again!
rlytgs 1 year ago
@rlytgs Despite our differenses, I must thank you. I've never had such an invigorating Silent Hill discussion in months. Your expert knowlage is amazing on this topic. Its been fun talking with you, but this still ISN'T OVER.

@TheCannibal100 I think this song sounds pretty simple, you could probably teach it to yourself. Try listening to this while playing on the piano, listen to it a lot. You'll get it eventually:)
Firemoon454 1 year ago
@Benfica4ever Exactly. Silent Hill layouts are based on the main character's subconsious and his/her personal tragedies in life. They all have their own different Silent Hill.

Nudge009 1 year ago
@Nudge009
They are making a sequel, but I'd rather them not continue from where the first left off. Instead they should just make the next one based off SH2.
SanniDog 1 year ago
@SanniDog The problem with that is the only people who will want to see a movie based off SH2 will have already played SH2, and so the reveal that was so shocking when you first played it would have little of the same impact on the viewer.
On top of this, a faithful adaptation simply would not be able to fit everything in - if the execs think that Angela should be cut for time/pacing, she'd be cut, along with the idea of appealing to the audience. [continued]
Shiruvi 1 year ago
@SanniDog [from continue] Let's face it; the majority of movie goers, and thus the majority of the cashflow and profit, do not want a story like SH2. They want heroes against monsters, guns a blazing, rescuing the damsel and all that, not psychological mindfuckery from the perspective of a grieving widower clinging to his last hope and memory of his wife.
Fuck it. If you want my lengthy reasons as to why SH2 will never be able to get a decent movie adaptation even if it really should, PM me.

Go die, Maria. Oh wait, you already did...THREE TIMES.
I still felt sad at this part though just because James was being more emo than normal and this track is beautiful.

Funny how people are having a discussion about RE in a SH posting XD They're both such awesome games. It's truly a shame that movies don't do them justice. I personally hated how SH movie tried to combine everything in one thing when they deserve individual attention!
chris84bloom 2 years ago 2
however, it followed the same general storyline of the first one, and set it up perfectly for the second movie to follow 2 exact
webb101094 2 years ago
Hopefully they will base the second movie on the plot of SH2 and it might be good, but the average movie-goer probably won't understand the story properly so they'll tone it down a lot.
rob032 2 years ago 4
I was hoping they'd base the second movie off of the second game too, but then I looked it up on Wikipedia and it said they're just continuing the story from the first movie.
I dunno, might be good but I'm pretty disappointed that they're ignoring the second game and trying to continue the plot of the first movie. It'd be better if they just started a new story.
