know how to use them properly, do LOTS of research and remember, prong collars are not designd to hurt dogs. If you are not 100% sure about using it on your dog then don't - your nervousness will pass on to your dog and make the tool completely inevective and possibly make your dog's behavioural problem worse. Good luck to everyone! :)
He yelped once and backed up. I told him 'good boy', and walked out the door with him calmly at my side (This was the first time he'd walked like that since he was a pup, I mad sure to stay calm but in my head I was jumping up and down with happiness!) as we walked up the street he stayed right by my side, very calm and under control, we walked past sheep, cats and school children, he only had to be corrected once. We were out for an hour. I would highly recommend prong collars but ONLY if you
I bought a prong collar from the internet and it arrived today. I had done a lot of research before I bought it as, even though I know they work when used correctly, I wanted to make sure I knew how to use them correctly so that I could avoid hurting my dog and making his pulling on the lead problem worse. I put the collar and lead on him, as usual he lunged toward the door in excitment (I made sure not to tense my arm to make sure it was just the dog who was putting preasure on the lead)
@bam4x4 Using prong collar / correction collar to lift your position as a pack leader it makes your dog looking at you as a bully.
To be a pack leader, you have to be fair, change your way treating your dog, NOT with dominance or correction collar.
You train the dog at Learning phase using food or toy reward. When the dog 100% know the given comand, you fade out the reward, add distraction, and correct the dog when they disobedience.
Old method Yank and Crank is dead, not effective anymore.
@cybertourniquet You clearly don't understand pack leadership nor how to use a prong/pinch collar. The only thing I am going to respond on because I am not wasteing my time with you is your comment about it "not being effective anymore". With that statement you imply that it USED to be effective... okay... so what has changed from when it "used" to be effective to now? Have dogs gotten smarter? Have they spoken back? No. Your an idiot. I get Solid REAL WORLD training 100% of the time.
@StarkidWorkingDog I'm working with a pitbull right now that pulled on lead and the person (against my advice) put him on a prong collar. In one week's time, he went from friendly pulling to greet another dog to teeth-chattering and growling at other dogs. The pain the collar induced a very quick and strong negative association with other dogs and gave this dog good reason to be aggressive where there were only bad manners before. I don't recommend them for this reason.

im not happy i m going to use it but i don't want to lose him in car accident !! and thank u so much Eric i really thinks Ur the best . and i recommended u to lots of people , that's the least i can do:)
:) it sure looks evil , that why i didn't buy when i saw it!! but after thinking and trying lots of methods with my husky/malamute i decided to buy one but ill tape those forks !! i don't wanna walk my dog anymore because of pulling all Ur methods Eric worked fine with my dog , only for the walking one , specially if he sees a cat i trained a malamute to walk in the street without a chain with positive reinforcements but when he sees a cat/dog , he just forget all about me and start running!!
It's not the method that's the problem, it's probably your inadequacy as a trainer. Performed right, positive reinforcement works on any dog, cat, horse, human, fish - whatever. I didn't make it up. It's SCIENCE.
The problem is that people don't take the time to educate themselves, they'd rather just use a painful collar on the dog.
I'm so glad those disgusting things are strictly forbidden in my country. That means we actually have to TRAIN our dogs. Not torment them.
@apoteque There is no pain involved. On a scale from 1-10 10 being the worst you only need to use a 1 or 2. I have had to use a 10 when a dog went after another dog and guess what? It didn't break skin. If I had to guess your from a european country, and with europe there is so much burocracy you cant even fart in public with out breaking the law. Ill take my good ol USA over any socialist/marxist country. And i'll choose my 100% effective methods over BRIBING a dog anyday.
@bam4x4 I don't bribe my dog, and on a scale of 1-10 I've never even used a 1 on my dog in terms of pain. And I'm from the good ol' USA. Your training methods are outdated. My dog is 5 months old and he obeys at least 20 commands without needing treats or pain. I reward my dog with life rewards. Check out Zak George on youtube and learn a thing or two about training dogs.
@markleblanc4 There is no pain involved with using a training collar. I can take ANY DOG with the worst aggression/behavior problems and have results the same day and have that same dog laying on the floor with children in the same week with ZERO problems. A dog that once would have torn your face off is laying on the floor with toddlers and other dogs. Treat trainers wont DARE take a "aggressive" dog that has a strong history of violence and transform them. They'd rather kill them.

Eric is RIGHT! The prong collar is the most humane and easily understood collar for dogs. When used properly it imitates the natural correction that every dog would receive from their mother, a pinch to the neck. Are some of you suggesting that mama dogs are abusive and dont understand their own kind? Dogs must understand there are consequences to bad behavior and that can only come from negative reinforcement. Without those consequences the real life consequences would be much more severe
@ConiferTreez His methods only see results when there are no distractions. Positive reenforcement training is for the agility ring, NOT for the REAL WORLD. As you can see above someone commented about their dog being fine until they see a cat then its like they were never trained. If that dog was properly trained using a prong collar they wouldn't think to go after the cat because YOU are the pack leader and you did not say it was okay to chase it.
@bam4x4 LoL you don't even know what positive re-inforcement training method is, when to use it and when not to use it. you just simply poo poo on it.
You are those kind of trainer who use force / yank & crank method who just put correction on dog without letting the dog learn. I can't blame you. It's quick money, right? rather than spending time with every dog building relationship, bond and be the fair pack leader, FORCE them.
@bam4x4 lmfao, your retarted if you think positive reinforcement isnt for the real world. my dog has never barked, bitten, or scared anyone and i ONLY use positive reinforcement. positive reinforcement teaches your dog to think instead of teaching your dog to be scared of getting hurt. even if it is "a 1 on a scale of 1to10" its still a 1, it still teaches the dog that if they dont do somthing wrong, then they are going to get hurt. and dogs dont need a pack leader, there not wolves, there dogs
@GoneToTheDoggy I dont BULLY my dogs. I show them the love and STRUCTURE they deserve. You are right, they are not wolves, but they were at one point in time wild animals that have been domesticated over hundreds of years. Which means they still have that instilled in their brain that they automatically take the pack leader ship role. And a 1 is the equivalent to me touching you on the shoulder and showing you the right way to do something. There is no pain involved when its done properly.
@bam4x4 lmao, a prong collar will hurt your dog. what do you think it is? a shiney necklace? thats what they are ment to do. hurt the dog. ive seen one used and it is not pretty. The dog looked miserable and hurt. if you are so sure that there is not pain involved, why dont you drop the threat and do just what you were talking about? tapping the dog on the shoulder.Ive never used any - meathods on my dog sparky. and hes never done anything bad. they dont need a pack leader thats just nonsense..
@GoneToTheDoggy they are not wolves, but they are definitely dog humans either. I find positive reinforcement uses a lot of human psychology on dogs which they don't understand, a lot of positive reinforcment methods need the dog to be able to rationalize, but dogs don't and can't do that. I don't agree with inflicting pain on dogs, but I also don't agree that dogs should be treated like tender, spoiled babies who are wrapped in cotton wool.
It can lead to aggression if you don't meet the dog my dog uses the prong collar and he is still a happy dog with other dogs

It's not about the dog getting smarter, it's about people getting smarter.
From your comment, I can see that you still use that old skool Yank and Crank method.
90% of Professional dog trainer using this method because it's faster to force dog to do what you want.
btw, how old are you? your comment makes you looks like 15 years old kid.

Amen to that.
Gentle leaders are EVIL, and so are harnesses, unless your dog is going to be pulling weight.

Yes. It is only useful for people who don't have the slightest idea about how to handle dogs.
Unfortunately it is the dog that has to pay the price for the handler's lack of knowledge.
The rest of us know how to train a dog without hurting them. I like my dogs...Hence I would never cause them to hurt in any way.
It's sad that a person who calls himself "the amazing dog training man" would ever recommend such a tool.

Sure, but it's not that. The site is not displaying.. something does get loaded, but nothing's on the screen, and it appears as if it's still loading.
I see now if I stop it and look at the source, there is something there, so there must be something strange with your HTML or something.. :)
