What's the big deal? They still make all movies for HD DVDs and Blu-Ray. You still have a choice between watching movies in the finest quality or watching movies like the cheap bastard that you are :D
anybody remember which was the parody where Hitler freezes in mid-speech like the youtube stream has connection problems and they wander if they should leave him like this?
Lol Blueray wins fair enough but i own ps3 and 360 elite and i have to say in terms of gaming the 360 is a load better as has a better choice of games only brought the ps3 to play blueray and for gran turismo lol that about it.
But the masses are still using plain old dvds.Dvd recorders let alone hi defination machines havent taken off yet. Blu ray may suceed but it will be another 5 years before it becomes the choice of the masses for movies.
Lol. This has been one of the funniest things Ive seen on youtube. I love hometheatre and love HD even more. I'm glad there is a victor and Im glad it was sony. I read that bluray did 1080p and HD DVD went only up to 1080i.
Another thing. PS3 Sales are going to go up for real now. Cause It only cost 399 cndn to get one. Thats really cheap. Another thing, XBOX has nothing really to worry about. Theirs was an addition to the system. Now you dont have to get it. Just good old gaming.Dang. Anyways, that oneup for ps3. They really needed this one.
bring back VHS LMAO I used to take them apart and put them back again when the tape get's tangle and broken. them good old days when they were so cheap I bought so much. FYI did you know Playstation 1 started with old CD's then PS2 got the DVD treatment then PS3 get's Blu Ray sounds cool.
This is funny but not true at all. And Blades of Glory? Blu-Ray sent their players out with Talledega Nights for god's sake. HD DVD is the better format for consumers. Don't let PS3 kids at Best Buy fool you.
Actually, HD-DVD holds 15gb to 30gb on a single layer, twice that for dual, and HD-DVD has two additional codecs. Other than that, the formats are identical.
I heard Warner Bros. was going to develop a hybrid disc that would be compatible for both formats - then they scrapped it. If you have HD-DVD, buy the WB movies you want before June 1st of this year. But Universal and Paramount will remain HD-DVD. It's gonna be a bumpy ride for the consumer. I have HD-DVD now but I'll also have PS3 soon.
Nope. Industry spec is summarised on wikipedia (look up wiki/HD_DVD):
HD DVD was designed to be the successor to the standard DVD format and is derived from the same underlying technologies. Since all variants except the 3x DVD employ a blue laser with a shorter wavelength, it can store about 3 1/4 times as much data per layer as its predecessor (maximum capacity: 15 GB per layer instead of 4.7 GB per layer).
So the maximum capacity of a dual layer HD-disc is 30GB and 15GB for a single layer.
That's industry fact.
Can we please drop this now? This was just a posting of a funny short. There are more important things to worry about. The best advice is to not buy either until the war is over, then go for the tech that will be supported in the shops. Otherwise you are going to be like all those who ended up with a betamax in the cupboard, and more redundant media than you know what to do with.
What about those region codes on Blu -Ray? Why would anyone want a player that is more expensive than HD -DVD and can`t even play it`s own discs, let alone is successor to existing DVD format or better picture quality than HD -DVD, ect... -Pay more, get less. We may still need Sony, but we certainly will not need Blu -Ray.
I think the preference for Blu-Ray is a corporate one rather than a consumer one. HD-DVD makes more sense in consumer terms as it offers high quality new format with the ability to read old format DVD as well. If the market shifts completely to Blu Ray the all those old DVDs become obsolete. If you have just replaced your VHS collection you'll know why that's going to go down well if people stop to think for a moment.
You are right too that early purchase of new tech is really just funding R&D. Canny consumers wait until the tech is both proven and cheap. It means it's here to stay and not a Beta-Max.
They aren't identical. Blue ray holds almost twice as much info as hd-dvd (25gb to 15gb single layer, twice that for dual layer). The big difference is that conventional DVDs will play under HD-DVD but not under blu-ray.
But i'm not sure where you are getting the facts that Blu-ray players can't play DVD's. All Blu-Ray players to this date or at least 99% can play DVD's just not CD's. Only the Samsung players will play DVD's as well as CD's.
As far as I am aware that is incorrect. Blu-ray works on a different light frequency to regular DVD so cannot play those discs. Uless major manufacturers have addressed the issue by installing a dvd laser diode also, that remains the case. This was HD-DVDs main selling point. The two formats were compatible.
I'm afraid that is incorrect. If you google you can easily find the specifications for both. Blu Ray holds 25GB single sided and 50gb double, HD-DVD holds 15 and 30 respectively. It is the smaller capcity medium but it has the advantage of playing older format DVD discs which Blu-Ray cannot do.
The latest generation have started to that is true, largely driven by the irritation of consumers who have only just upgraded from VHS suddenly being confronted by a new one. What's more, Sony have found themselves the brunt of a barrage of criticism over the forcing of BR tp the exclusion of all else, so they have acquiesced and expanded the PS3. But that is by no means a flawless player because it's ebing all things to all men and is still primarily a games engine.
That being said, BR, DVD and CD all work on different light frequencies and require their own laser to read them. There are many BR machines in high street stores incapable of playing both or all because they do not have two or three lasers in them.
