Well most good guitarist don't need a certain guitar too play they just need to know what there doing... but if u needed a guitar i'd recommend les pauls. They can give off some amazing sound \when u need them too. That's just my preference though go with what feels comfy to you.

to "play like that" you just need to practice. to achieve a certain sound, it's about the gear. a Gibson Les Paul or SG is a good point to start if you like that mean growl, for the more shred minded person, I'd recommend checking out Schecter (I love my Hellraiser FR,) Jackson, and Kramer. They have thinner necks and typically have a full 24 fret board as opposed to my LP with it's beefy neck with only 22 frets, it's got some mean chunk to it though <3
