@barchetta575m Do you have any suggestions for everyday casual riders like me? The longest rides I do are 20-35 miles, and I keep hearing "eat carbs" but no one is giving "specific" foods to eat. I've also been told that everyone's body is different, and eating before a ride may/ may not be right for me, and some eat big the day before a ride or the night before. I usually have water or gatorade, nutra grain bars or energy gel. I'd like to know if there is food out there for cyclists. Thanks.
@thisisobvious Hey I'm just curious. I'm not a pro rider or anything, I just ride for conditioning and exercise. Do you have any suggestions for actual food that I should eat before going on long rides like 25 miles or more? I keep hearing "eat carbs" but no one is giving any type of specific food. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks.
mmm i don't know much about TT but lots of these guys look more concerned with riding the narrowest bars rather than keeping their backs straight and their bodies relaxed.
The back hump is a Camelbak Hydration vest. I use one, very good way to carry 2L of water without the aerodynamic penalty of carrying bottles on the frame or saddle.
@ladsycrew I'm wanting to get a camelbak myself. I may ride anywhere between 10-30 miles daily depending on how I feel. Which size camel bak would you recommend? I'm getting tired of my water bottles getting hot after 1/2 -1 hour.
@iwant2bbuff I also go for long distance rides and what I recommend you do is the night before your work out fill up the bottle 3/4 and put it in the freezer. Before heading out add cold water to the bottle. The ice will keep your water cold for most of the ride and it will gradually melt as you go along so you will aways have ice cold water available. Works for me.
It's not his back. In the interest of aerodynamics, some TT riders will nix the water bottle/cage for this sort of special aerodynamic Camelback contraption...haha. Anyone with that ridiculous of a physical deformity probably wouldn't be a professional cyclist, you know?
Trust me, it was not a camel back. Yes, some riders used to ride with camel backs (the UCI has now banned their use) but Saul was not using one. He has an aggressive form of scoliosis.
It was an extremely odd case of the disorder, leading to physical benefits rather than detriment. The curvature allowed his heart and lungs to grow much larger than they normally would. Having ridden with Saul in person, I have seen just how large the curve of his spine is.
Tyler Hamilton was suffering like hell. Pushing yourself to that point is amazing. No other feeling tops the hurt that comes about when you are giving it all you got.
@algomat pain of what??? buttpain?then that's not the pain, the pain is when u break ur whole body bones.. NOT LIKe DIS SHIT... PEDALING IS TOO EASY FOR ME... IAM PRO.
He has a form of scoliosis that has caused his back to form a strange looking hump, but as a result his ribcage is much larger. Apparently his lungs are almost double the normal size for a man his size.
Trust me, it is his back and it is caused by scoliosis. Go look it up on google. He mentions it in his book as well as in some other interviews. It is in no way a camel back
