The 5 people that dislikes this songs' version are just disappointed to realize that someone could make this song even better than the Ozzy and Dio versions...This interpretation is surely one of the highest peaks of the entire Gillan career...
Gillan might be my fave singer ever, which is why I keep coming back to this clip, but I still think Ozzy sounded more like he was being dragged off to Hell than anybody when he sang it
Gillan and Dio both did a great job on this one. The studio version is still the studio version, but personally, I think Ozzy did the devil laugh better than anybody on the Las supper vid. Gotta love that shriek from Gillan though. Still, I'm more ascared when Ozzy does the Devil laugh.

I wish they released a live album of Sabbath w/ Gillan. I'd *love* to hear some of the non-Born Again tracks with Gillan's vocals with good sound quality. Rock 'N Roll Doctor sounds amazing!

I think that this version is great and there are things about it that i like better then the original.But on the original ozzies vocals bring a feeling of fear when he sings this song>He really sounds scared.Yes I think ian is a better vocalist then ozzy but ozzy brings more emotion and feeling to it.regaurdless of that .I still wish I had seen this tour.I was 17 at the time so I could have.At the time I had lost interest in sabbath.(im Not sure why)My loss. great song ty for post
STOP.......Bill Ward played every drum track on the born again album. He did not play on the tour. Do not listen to anyone you tells you that Bill did not play on every inch of that record. Please........If you listen, it is quite obvious that it is Bill. So stop the bullshit. Because you do not know what you are speaking of. If you, for some reason, do not think it is Bill.well. You must go bother some other bands music.
If you can't accept what I say, too bad! Sorry to burst your bubble - waaaaahhh! It all came out in '83-'84. I was there, I saw the tour, I read the all the articles in Hit Parader, Circus, Rolling Stone, etc., etc. Btw, the other commenter is correct. Bill was told there would not be a tour for Born Again. When he found out otherwise he left because he was getting sober and knew a tour would be hard drinkin'.
I love all the versions of Black Sabbath Ozzy is Ozzy and he is great but The Born Again Album with IAN is incredible, I saw them 2 times on that tour and they were 2 of the best shows iv'e ever seen. and this version here kicks ass Ian is amazing
i'm so glad i found this...good stuff...i wondered if it was out there somewhere...it's funny how gillan downplays it a lot...his stay wasn't that disasterous...
In interview Ozzy named Born Again as the greatest album Black Sabbath released after he left the band. by the way, Ozzy and Gillan are close friends and they love each other :)
It's funny (yet cool) how Ian Gillan, the least dark and "evil" person who ever was in Black Sabbath, was the one who nailed the disturbing evilness best. All other versions are pale compared to this!
@tjcobra666 Totally agree! Born Again may not have been on par with the rest of Iommi's writing, but in live shows, Gillan was awesome singing both Ozzy and Dio songs.
@tjcobra666 Black sabbath with Dio at Hammersmith Odeon. But not the one in the live album, there's a video of the one I'm refering to here on youtube.
NO. Bill did the album. But did not play a single live show for this tour. So they, for some unknown reason, they chose Bevan. Why?. I have no idea. He was as far away from a metal/hard rock drummer as you could find. This tour would have really kicked-ass with just about anyother drummer you could think of. It was still incredible. But what the hell were they thinking. I dont think I ever heard of Ben again?. Thank GOD. Keep On Rockin'.
@gethsenamane It was Don Arden, Black Sabbath's management, that chose Bev Bevan. Bev was formally of ELO. Don Arden managed ELO and is credited with making them the mega stars they were in the late 70's.
I've never heard any of Ian Gillian's stint in Sabbath. This sounds pretty cool but to say it "blows Ozzy's version out of the water"...that's going a bit far.
I remember seeing this tour in Rochester NY when I was in High school. I had taken a couple hits of acid, and this tune kind of freaked me out. Gillian looked and sounded like a man possesed. All you could see was his hair, and those guttural screams. Wow that was a loooooooooong time ago and I still remember it.
I do know Geezer and Bill recorded the "Born Again" album..........Wikipedia says Bill left after recording though, so you're right. because Bev came in, did the tour, then went back to reform ELO as "ELO II".
@uofm97 Bill Ward was "credited" on the album. That is not him drumming on the album. He laid down a couple tracks then left the band. Another drummer was brought in, did Bills' tracks and finished the album. Don Arden decided it would be better for the bands image to credit Bill with the album.
@terminator2570 That's not true at all, get your facts fucking straight. Bill Ward says that BA is some of his best work and the only album (up until then) that he ever recorded 100% sober. If you can't tell that every song on Born Again is Bill Ward then I don't know what to tell you.
@BlackSabbath370 Only Bev Bevan for the tour. Bill Ward bailed out when Iommi told him they would tour the album. Apparently Ward had been told by someone that they weren't gonna tour 'Born Again'. Bill was sober at the time, and knew that it would be a lot of harddrinking when touring. Bill returned to the band after Ian Gillan left to rejoin Deep Purple, and the tour was over, but only for a few months, when they recorded demos w. Dave Donato.
It was Bill Ward for the album and Bev Bevan for the tour. You can tell the difference cause Bill is an awesome drummer. From what I understand they pulled him out of rehab to make the album,
Bill Ward was on the album and Bev Bevan was on the tour and there is a huge difference. I believe they actually pulled Bill out of rehab for the album. The man drank his career away but he was an awesome drummer. Geezer was the bassist for the album and tour.
@uofm97Geezer did all the album tracks and live dates. Bev Bevan played all the live dates. Bill did not even play drums on the album. he laid down tracks only for a couple songs. He could not continue. Then another drummer, i don't remember his name, he was some unknown dude, re-did Bill's tracks and did the rest of the album. That is what you are hearing on Born Again. Not Bill Ward or Bev Bevan. There is a lot more behind it than this too......
@uofm97 If you can't accept what I say, too bad! When he found out otherwise he left because he was getting sober and knew a tour would be hard drinkin'.
if only they would have done more than one cd, born again is fucking killer and gillan made the old stuff sound like thats how it should have been to begin with

I've never heard any of Ian Gillian's stint in Sabbath. This sounds pretty cool but to say it "blows Ozzy's version out of the water"...that's going a bit far.
jaysirrock 1 year ago
@jaysirrock I believe it does. No way you can compare Ozzy (great vocals) to Gillan (vocals GOD)

Who was the bassist and drummer for this tour?
uofm97 2 years ago
Pretty sure it was the great geezer bulter and bill ward/bev bevan
BlackSabbath370 2 years ago
I do know Geezer and Bill recorded the "Born Again" album..........Wikipedia says Bill left after recording though, so you're right. because Bev came in, did the tour, then went back to reform ELO as "ELO II".
uofm97 2 years ago
@uofm97 Bill Ward was "credited" on the album. That is not him drumming on the album. He laid down a couple tracks then left the band. Another drummer was brought in, did Bills' tracks and finished the album. Don Arden decided it would be better for the bands image to credit Bill with the album.
terminator2570 11 months ago
@terminator2570 That's not true at all, get your facts fucking straight. Bill Ward says that BA is some of his best work and the only album (up until then) that he ever recorded 100% sober. If you can't tell that every song on Born Again is Bill Ward then I don't know what to tell you.

@gl797 I know what to tell you - Go suck a dick fruitcake!! Curse at me jack off.......

geezer on bass
Bill = drums in studio
Bevan = drums on tour

@BlackSabbath370 bev bevan

@shotguy1 it was both bill ward and bev bevan, but mostly bev for the tour
BlackSabbath370 1 year ago
@BlackSabbath370 Only Bev Bevan for the tour. Bill Ward bailed out when Iommi told him they would tour the album. Apparently Ward had been told by someone that they weren't gonna tour 'Born Again'. Bill was sober at the time, and knew that it would be a lot of harddrinking when touring. Bill returned to the band after Ian Gillan left to rejoin Deep Purple, and the tour was over, but only for a few months, when they recorded demos w. Dave Donato.

@BlackSabbath370 just and only Bev Bevan for the tour...
nazzare79 1 year ago
It was Bill Ward for the album and Bev Bevan for the tour. You can tell the difference cause Bill is an awesome drummer. From what I understand they pulled him out of rehab to make the album,

@uofm97
Ian Gillan: Vocals
Tony Iommi: Guitar
Geezer Butler: Bass
Bev Bevan: Drums
Geoff Nicholls: Keyboards

@SilverTounge85 Awesome. Thanks, man! :)
uofm97 1 year ago
Bill Ward was on the album and Bev Bevan was on the tour and there is a huge difference. I believe they actually pulled Bill out of rehab for the album. The man drank his career away but he was an awesome drummer. Geezer was the bassist for the album and tour.
airlair 1 year ago
@uofm97 Gezzer payed the bass guitar, and Bev Bevan played the drums, Geoff Nicholls - keyboards

@uofm97 Geezer and Bev Bevan from the MOVE - ELO... GREAT SHOW... saw it at Nassua Col in Loooong Island
geneiv 1 year ago
@uofm97Geezer did all the album tracks and live dates. Bev Bevan played all the live dates. Bill did not even play drums on the album. he laid down tracks only for a couple songs. He could not continue. Then another drummer, i don't remember his name, he was some unknown dude, re-did Bill's tracks and did the rest of the album. That is what you are hearing on Born Again. Not Bill Ward or Bev Bevan. There is a lot more behind it than this too......
terminator2570 11 months ago
@terminator2570 Who did it then, Anton Fig? lol. How do you know any of this as fact?

@uofm97 If you can't accept what I say, too bad!
