@nsiderultimaseth The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my...
The beginning is a little to fast for me, but I like the lighter touch. Yet again, the genius director Yoko Kanno hold us captive audience to her fantastic creations.
@wtfman880, maybe this is a bit sexist, but with the thought of two things in my mind - A, that Yoko Kanno was a female "manga-ist", and B, that one of my friends from school would marry Spike Spiegel if he was real (but she's not obsessive otakuish, just loves the character - I'm wondering if instead of a Space Cowboy or "Future" cowboy, Spike was written as a "future Romeo". If I'm drawing comparisons between today's lineup male celebrities and that of Shakespeare, Spike resembles...
...what I see as a bit, and no disrespect to Spike cause I really mean a bit, of a cross between the two. Just how Spike was "incapable" of beating Andy through sheer bad luck, where Andy took on the moniker of an old traditional cowboy forced to contend against the modern version of himself, Spike. Spike's personality and appearance fits a "Space "era" Romeo". He starts off broken (yet concealing) his lost love, Julia, and continues through the story pursuing something you might consider his...
"newfound love" or his Juliet, in bounty-hunting. There's of course the divergence due to his seeming, intangible relationship with Faye but of course we all saw something during the final episode, he felt she was close enough to at least give her an honest description of why he was doing what he did. Of course, don't let it be to say she's another author who "Tragically fell to copying Shakespeare", I'm not saying that, but the two character likenesses are so coincidental IMO.
@Momentum139 Spike doesn't like faye at all. There's a quote from someone asking one of the creators and him responding but it was way after the show was done and it didn't seem serious. The way spike treats faye isn't any better than the way Jet does(no different than jet and spike either), and the affection is begrudgingly, which shows how hard it is for any of these guys to get along with people(like jet's gf). Basically they're misfits, and they decide to mistfit together like family
The purpose of jazz is to constantly reinvent the familiar so that it becomes unfamiliar. This rendition has a very different feel and mood and some nice soloing! Smooooth and cooool.
@Greenamtern Correct, this one has more of the Brubeck/Mulligan 'cool' element in the interpretation. More of a Gillespie/Miles style on Trumpet. Not heard this version before, quite outstanding. Like both for what they are. 8)
Concur with the freeform tangent, but it's quite appropriate in the context of the show. I think it really adds to the somewhat chaotic environments the show tends to bring them. Fast paced, lack of consitency and direction, improvising with the moment. Musically confusing, but thematically very appropriate.
