whats the different between fantom g6, g7, and g8? and which of these should I buy? and should i also consider buying RD700GX, or just go for the fantom? Thanks. i would appreciate anyone that answer me.
@asbani911 The number of keys 66, 76, 88. I believe That's the number of keys and usually the 88 key version is weighted. You might look it up on google but I'm sure that's the only differences.
I have a roland Fantom X and honestly i prefer the yamaha coz the sounds r better compared with the roland but if i where u i wold get software instead of hardware...
You probably have gotten one by now, but the Yamaha is NOT for ones starting off making songs and stuff. Motif is not intuitive at all, be prepared to put in a lot of time studying. The Fantom, however, is probably much easier to get started with, though it's feature set comes up a bit short in comparison to Yamaha's. In short, Yamaha Motif will sound a whole lot better, and have more sounds than the Fantom, but the Fantom will give you an easier time when starting off making music.
the g6is a sampler and if u want to sample sounds to do some reggaeton ur gonna need it- the drum machine and time stretches - the modulation the mixing props are muy excellente!- people complain about the stock sounds on it tho-the motis definitely has better sounds and great mixing also - ibut u can download all of the motifs sounds onto the fantom g6 - if u want to program music get the g6- if u just want to play some good sounds and go on the road for live performance get the motif
THE MOTIF IS MUCH MORE POWERFUL THEN THE ROLAND, HOWEVER IT IS NOT CHEAPER THAN THE ROLAND.. IT ACTUALLY COSTS ABOUT 200 DOLLARS MORE!! ROLAND G6/G7/G8, HAS ALOT OF STUFF YOU DONT NEED AND IT TAKES AWAY FROM THE SOUNDS.. MYSUGGESTION WOULD BE TO GET THE MOTIF.
im saying this because the workstations can only talke about a 1 gig of memory and you can only load 2 gigs of your own sounds and its a pain in the ass building multi-samples (your own drum kit)and with ableton you dont have to worry about anything like that because your computer has so much space and building your own drum kit is simple and easy i would get komplete because it sounds just as good as any hardware you will ever buy protools will go a long way when it comes to recording and mix
i know you most likely own one of them by now but i wouldnt get either of them i own a roland fantom and i am about to sell it. there both good keyboards but they are hard to work with when it comes to track edit and they have there limitations on memory and sampling it looks like your looking forward to spending around $2500 and if i were you i would get ableton live 8, native instruments komplete 7 with a nice midi keyboard pro tools mbox mini and a good computer thats about grand for all of
hey man, i do like roland, but for 6 months i did some extensive research, on the two the fantom G series and the Motif XS series, i interviewed many musicians and professionals, end of the day the roland has one of the best screens to edit on but the yamaha came out with the bast sound, i mean 6000 Arpeggio patterns, thats a lot. hey man, may be you should try them both out at your local music shop:)
Jokes aside ("it will be worth it"),................But I still want the others too! Mainly Alesis and Emu for me but there are still others as good if not better. If I use only one board on a set it usually is a Roland or Yamaha if that helps! By the way..........Korg's only "slankin" with me because they seem to always have buttons breaking. Quality/LowPrice/Dependability......Get Yamaha PSR530 or Casio WK3000 or Roland U20 or Yamaha SY85. Folks, I can be taken seriously this time.
You (most of you) are very interesting to me? Why not just buy ALL Major (Namebrand) professional line synths in order to be satisfied. I always have. Try It! It aint that hard really and it's worth it. Seriously! You will be glad you did.
I play classical (Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, etc) and I still study. I have the fortune of having a Yamaha U3 and several Model-D Steinways at my disposal.
The sound quality of the Fantom is amazing. Its true there are only a few patches that are worthwhile for piano, but they are (other than overtones, which I might add no keyboard company has) indecipherable from acoustic grands.
Yamaha has that too, don't get me wrong, but the action/weight is pathetic... If your use to acoustic grands.
Now, the Yamaha CP300 is different. It has wonderful key depth, weight and action.
Roland's equivalent is the RD-700GX. It has all the qualities of the CP300 with 2 major improvements. It has a more modern sound engine, with better sounds as a result... And for all of the "realistic" piano touch Yamaha has tried to incorporate into the CP300, they left out escapement. Something the RD-700gx has.
Buy what you like though, everyone is an irrational fan-boy... What are facts?
brother man go with the ROLAND G6/7/8 which ever ur money can strech... That machine is a a computer, piano, drums, wind instrument, and anything ppossible u can think of MIX N ONE unit... it is a bit complicated to get used to but its lovely and worth the money.. Take my word on this..
I know for a fact that you probably made your decision by now... but I must say that the Roland Fantom X6 is better. They are both great keyboards with great sounds but the Roland is much more user friendly. You have to be a freaking music genius to work with the Motif.
i got the roland g7 and its the best for me roland has over 1000 patchs and much more with update and the sound is crazy you could mix in 16 sound all in one fantom all the way
This posts saying ROland is good makes me sick, I know ALL the Roland keyboards in and out, and YES I'd prefer a frigen damn Casio to a Roland. They super stink in all ways, They have somewhate nice accordions, other than that eveything is just plain 19th century, Yamaha is ages ahead, go check how yamaha keyboards are done and ask technicians how many Rolands and Yamaha complains there are...
Not sure if you already decided but I own(ed) both and in my opinion different enough that they complement each other well. The Yamaha has better higher end frequencies and can produce clearer sounds like acoustic instruments (especially bright piano). The Rolands have better low frequency sounds and I think reproduces much better analog sounds. So it really depends on what kind of music you play.
I really don't like the Yamaha sequencer but I doubt you'd use that for in a studio.
Yamaha Motif for sound. The sound is more organic, as well as more dynamic. The Roland is a very good workstation tho. If u are interested in in plug-ins, and an electric feel, grab the Roland and have a blast... I personally would Pik up the Roland, but thats due the "type" ov muzik i make..
how many arpeggio can the fantom g run at a time? please? i know that the motif xs can run 4 at one time so far....the motif xs8 where i live is not cheaper than the fantom g8, it s $500 more expensive than the fantom
You can't even compare Famtom to XS. You guys that say Famtom is better it's because you haven't played in a Motif. Roland is currently the worst brand in keyboards.
I wouldnt say Roland is the worst, but i would say Motif XS is the best. Anybody who knows production knows Roland sounds cant fuck with the Motif sounds!
i agree. roland sound are good, but the one from korg M3 or motif are way better...and the xs has the most powerfull arpegio with i beleive 60000 built in
i would recomend the motif, i mean for this price youll get a perfect keyboard in any case:D but if i choose i would choose as most of the famous musicians do,MOTIF BABY:D, i mean look at stevie wonder, take six, brian mcknight...
Roland all day get tha fantom G6 it has SRX expansion packs for even more high Quality sound the motif is good but the fantom is just better................
@2010FerrariEnzo what you mean dude both 88 series have weighted keys.. don't say something you don't know.. I have both them and personally like the xs a way better my fantom crashes all the time ... has good features and is a great board but no I'd never take it over my xs. YAMAHA rules.
@jomarcavalcanti by watching your channel i guess u r catholic..peace :D i dont say what i dont know and I grew up with pianos. I know motif xs r great, acttually the acoustic sounds, but dont look down on anybody product, each has pros and cons, motif xs has semi weighted keys and fantom g has weighted keys but nothing can compare to my real acoustic piano, but technology.
I really disagree on your coment about the xs8 being semiweighted. but.. that's just me.. Honestly I like better the rh3 keys from korg on the sv-1 vintage synth.. awesome feel but once you are a classical pianist.. might not beof your preference. again I'm just an amateur and again plz don't take me wrong.. my sincere apologies If i sounded any harsh
@jomarcavalcanti I play classical music of Bethoven, LIszt, Modza, Chopin so Playing a little bit drum pads will create the whole epic and holy environment in classic music, maybe that explains why I prefer the fantom g8 and Korg M3 88. (little too much for a pianist guy like me for the Korg Oasys 88) Dont get me wrong, your motif is really nice too, it rules, great acoustic sounds. My friend sold the motif for me around $2000..perfect price
WOW yall just dont get it..who is the top of the line keyboard player in the world...Got dam Stevie Wonder...and what does he use.....The got dam MOTIF BABY!!!! ROLAND TO ME IS NOTHING BUT A DAM CHRISMAS TREE...YAHMAHA MAKES ACOUSTIC INTRUMENTS...meaning Motif HAS THE CLEANEST SOUNDS cleanest drum kits...right off the bat...Roland.....blahhh blahhh blahhh..all you need is a motif..and logic pro and call it a day.
So what did you bought at the end ? :) I have motif es6. I think it doesn't matter witch one. Because those are very complex instruments. But big plus for motif XS is Steiberg Cubase AI. Which is developed directly to work with motif XS. And I've heard that motif has better arpeggiator.
for me yamaha is the best for midi songs and ententainer music, maby opera and country and shit like this, fantom is for hip hop, trance, dance and shit like this the best, lead sounds and guitar sounds on roland are 100000 times better than on motif, motif and roland are two very different keyboards, motif don`t deserve to be called a synth, it is just a regular workstation, roland is a synth and damn good one!! in the other way roland will never do pianos and strings that good as yamaha..
I see here bunch of dumbasses, i had a motif xs 7 and tyros 3 together... i sold them both, i got now fantom g7 and yamaha psr 910, thats all i need... yamaha got very nice sounds on motif if u are playing a lot with brass strings and piano... for me motif is to complicated, and the screen stays behind when are u scroling down, and colors are suasidable... i can say many things over motif and tyros... i can hear 1 sound and know that is from yamaha or not
the yamaha is very hard to work period. if you don't know about kb then don't waste the money. flip mode if you want something that will last you a long time then buy a motif
We're on our 3'rd year with Yamaha boards(S90 now XS) and it's still very much a day to day learning experience. Very unintuitive screens and interfaces(arg) . But... once you learn the code, they really do come through in workflow.
Just go to Guitar Center or your local music store and spend a few hours on both. Heck, could even try out Kurzweil and KORG while you're there. That way you'll what you want for sure. Then go home and buy one used off eBay and save a fortune. =D
the Fantom sucks, the keys are cheap and it requires a an oil change like every month in order to stop it from squeaking. It also overheats and crashes when if use it for long periods of time(so you gotta be careful with that too).
But if you're the type of person who likes squeeky crashing cheap feeling keyboards, then by all means... get a Fantom!
Bullshit, I,ve have had a Roland fantom x8 for 4 yrs now, I write music for film & Tv and do live shit on it, never had a problem with keys. Yamaha did a very good marketing on motif kb's and a lot of endorsement to a lot of artists across the globe, to make people like you say such things.
No dude, and I also have a Juno D since '06, never had problems with it too
the only Roland keyboards that have a fucked up keybed are the FP's esp FP 2s FP 9s, i'm not too sure about the current generation of FPs (FP 7 & FP 4)
I have an X8 fantom, Juno D & a Yamaha psr 550, guess who needs to be taken for key alignment???
The least used one:** PSR 550, It has nice realistic acoustic basses, horns, strings, that why I'm keeping it, and that's why I love some of Yamaha products like EXs and Motifs, they've got this nice realistic sound on them, evrytime I go on stage I wish I had a motif or an s90, but when I'm scoring for, the more In love my X8 and a Juno D, Roland allows me to do deep stuff.
I owned all Motif XS Korg M3 and now I own Roland Fantom G, and Fantom G is the best..... The best sequencer hands down the most sounds. I feel at home with Fantom I never got use to Motif or Korg M3... FANTOM G!!!
Yamaha Motif XS is the first good keyboard on Yamaha's history (less DX7). Roland is good since U-20, back in the 80's. Roland Fantom G is better for recordings. But, It gets thin on stage. Yamaha Motif XS is better there(stage). It's to personal to say, but it depends on what u gona do with. The music style and where. After all, I have more trust on the tradition of Roland but my idols are using Motif... My tip is: go to a good store and test them. And, if is possible, get both of. Good luck.
Motif XS is the answer for you. I thing M3 more funny, but XS has better sounds after all, speceally the pianos. I don't believe on Kursweil sounds, but is good to play live. Again XS is the answer.
i own the fantom g6 and its hot im tryin to buy the motif xs and have them both hooked up together runing through logic 9 so i suggest get them both playa
It depends on what style you are looking for and how creative you want to be. If you get the Roland, buy a used Fantom-X. The 'G' is not worth having. The new Motif is better than its predecessors. They are completely different sounding, get them both. You can be far more experimental with a KORG M3 and can add a RADIAS board. If you buy just one, that is what I would recommend. Roland goes way overboard on reverb. YouTube does not leave enough room for additional comments.
I would have to say M3 for any music genre. The big reason is to obtain KARMA. I also have several Kurzweil synths and if you are going to do a lot of sampling, then perhaps you may consider a K2600xs. I would choose the M3 but my favorite of favorites is the Ensoniq TS. if you are buying used , the M3 should be the best deal.
I just wanted to add, you should try them all out if possible because the one you like the best should get your creative juices flowing the most. It is not the synth that will make you a success, rather your own talented input on any of them. Can not imagine that you would want to sound like everybody else.
Im lucky enough to own both and bottom line is for best sequencing and screen and ease of use it has to be the Fantom .
But if your after those techno beats piano
and guitars it has to be the XS6.
Both are fantastic workstations but the roland with its mouse compatability usb memory and large lcd screen and cubase like sequencer just gets my vote but guess its your decision . Good Luck
I know you probably have already made a choice by now lol....but one thing I always consider when deciding on a buying a board. I listen to how realistic the piano patches sound...and Yamaha has done and a pretty impressive job at getting it right. But it's all a matter of what sounds and feels good to you. They are both great boards tho.
I own the Fantom G6 as of today, I have mainly been a DAW user Pro Tools, Logic, reasons....etc It all depends on your budget, the sound or genre you are going to record or play live, and your personal choice. Do I need any of these no, my g6 just replaced my Akai MPK49, which I can make sample sets in logic 9 and save as a new instruments. Computers do crash, I have a 2008 mac pro 8 core with 16gb of ram and still can have issues, either way workstation or Daw, both will get the job done.
Saludos.
Try the kurzweil PC3x, it will blow your mind, if you don't mind about the sampling. It is the most powerfull synth in it's price range:2000€. The engine its more powerfull than the Korg Oasys and sounds better. Those boards from Roland and Yamaha are very bland. The PC3x its shaking the market. When I went to buy mine, another guy 1 hour before, got the last one and left there, for the second hand market, a pristine 5000€ Motif XS8.
man i tell you, its a tough choice cause i had them both, the fantom g8 and the xs 8. if you want speed in sampling and transfering files with a fast internal computer and state of the art, go with fantom g, as far as the best sound and quality, yamaha is the best dude. no question. right now i use logic pro 8 cause i get all the sounds of both keyboards and millions more. im using a dual 2.5 G5 and a controller. get the Fantom G, you'll be happy
the motif sounds much better in my opinion, but i have used the fanton and its a nice keyboard. i would rather have the sound over the tracks, cuz i do a lot more live performances dan recording.
motif xs6 it has a more better grand piano sound and synth

It was my debate too.. until a guy in guitar center told me that he prefers yamaha motif rather than fantom because:
- Fantom rhythm styles are like from the 90's, but motif styles are newer
- the sounds of the drum section from motif has better quality than roland
- he also said that he has a roland in his house, but if he had the chance to buy a new workstation he would buy the yamaha
He never said Roland was a bad synth but is like comparing a Mercedes with a BMW. Buy the Mercedes!

MYSUGGESTION WOULD BE TO GET THE MOTIF.

trust me man get a computer the software with a good midi cont it will go much futher than hardware
komplete 7, 92 gigs of sound plus upgrades get no better than that
undefeated1000 1 year ago
im saying this because the workstations can only talke about a 1 gig of memory and you can only load 2 gigs of your own sounds and its a pain in the ass building multi-samples (your own drum kit)and with ableton you dont have to worry about anything like that because your computer has so much space and building your own drum kit is simple and easy i would get komplete because it sounds just as good as any hardware you will ever buy protools will go a long way when it comes to recording and mix
undefeated1000 1 year ago
i know you most likely own one of them by now but i wouldnt get either of them i own a roland fantom and i am about to sell it. there both good keyboards but they are hard to work with when it comes to track edit and they have there limitations on memory and sampling it looks like your looking forward to spending around $2500 and if i were you i would get ableton live 8, native instruments komplete 7 with a nice midi keyboard pro tools mbox mini and a good computer thats about grand for all of

Roland Fantom-G has a much better interface and better FX so I would like to put my vote on that!

hey man, i do like roland, but for 6 months i did some extensive research, on the two the fantom G series and the Motif XS series, i interviewed many musicians and professionals, end of the day the roland has one of the best screens to edit on but the yamaha came out with the bast sound, i mean 6000 Arpeggio patterns, thats a lot. hey man, may be you should try them both out at your local music shop:)

TransynthMan 1 year ago
Jokes aside ("it will be worth it"),................But I still want the others too! Mainly Alesis and Emu for me but there are still others as good if not better. If I use only one board on a set it usually is a Roland or Yamaha if that helps! By the way..........Korg's only "slankin" with me because they seem to always have buttons breaking. Quality/LowPrice/Dependability......Get Yamaha PSR530 or Casio WK3000 or Roland U20 or Yamaha SY85. Folks, I can be taken seriously this time.

EuphoricDan 1 year ago
Now, the Yamaha CP300 is different. It has wonderful key depth, weight and action.
Roland's equivalent is the RD-700GX. It has all the qualities of the CP300 with 2 major improvements. It has a more modern sound engine, with better sounds as a result... And for all of the "realistic" piano touch Yamaha has tried to incorporate into the CP300, they left out escapement. Something the RD-700gx has.
Buy what you like though, everyone is an irrational fan-boy... What are facts?

@2010FerrariEnzo what you mean dude both 88 series have weighted keys.. don't say something you don't know.. I have both them and personally like the xs a way better my fantom crashes all the time ... has good features and is a great board but no I'd never take it over my xs. YAMAHA rules.
jomarcavalcanti 2 years ago
@jomarcavalcanti by watching your channel i guess u r catholic..peace :D i dont say what i dont know and I grew up with pianos. I know motif xs r great, acttually the acoustic sounds, but dont look down on anybody product, each has pros and cons, motif xs has semi weighted keys and fantom g has weighted keys but nothing can compare to my real acoustic piano, but technology.
2010FerrariEnzo 2 years ago
I really disagree on your coment about the xs8 being semiweighted. but.. that's just me.. Honestly I like better the rh3 keys from korg on the sv-1 vintage synth.. awesome feel but once you are a classical pianist.. might not beof your preference. again I'm just an amateur and again plz don't take me wrong.. my sincere apologies If i sounded any harsh
jomarcavalcanti 2 years ago
@jomarcavalcanti I play classical music of Bethoven, LIszt, Modza, Chopin so Playing a little bit drum pads will create the whole epic and holy environment in classic music, maybe that explains why I prefer the fantom g8 and Korg M3 88. (little too much for a pianist guy like me for the Korg Oasys 88) Dont get me wrong, your motif is really nice too, it rules, great acoustic sounds. So what did you bought at the end ? :) I have motif es6. I think it doesn't matter witch one. Because those are very complex instruments. But big plus for motif XS is Steiberg Cubase AI. Which is developed directly to work with motif XS. And I've heard that motif has better arpeggiator.
YAR0SLAW 2 years ago
for me yamaha is the best for midi songs and ententainer music, maby opera and country and shit like this, fantom is for hip hop, trance, dance and shit like this the best, lead sounds and guitar sounds on roland are 100000 times better than on motif, motif and roland are two very different keyboards, motif don`t deserve to be called a synth, it is just a regular workstation, roland is a synth and damn good one!! in the other way roland will never do pianos and strings that good as yamaha..
Jurck4Life 2 years ago
I see here bunch of dumbasses, i had a motif xs 7 and tyros 3 together... i sold them both, i got now fantom g7 and yamaha psr 910, thats all i need... yamaha got very nice sounds on motif if u are playing a lot with brass strings and piano... for me motif is to complicated, and the screen stays behind when are u scroling down, and colors are suasidable... i can say many things over motif and tyros... i can hear 1 sound and know that is from yamaha or not

OMG definitely the Motif XS!
the Fantom sucks, the keys are cheap and it requires a an oil change like every month in order to stop it from squeaking. It also overheats and crashes when if use it for long periods of time(so you gotta be careful with that too).
But if you're the type of person who likes squeeky crashing cheap feeling keyboards, then by all means... get a Fantom!

Good luck.

MrTrio5 2 years ago
It depends on what style you are looking for and how creative you want to be. If you get the Roland, buy a used Fantom-X. The 'G' is not worth having. The new Motif is better than its predecessors. They are completely different sounding, get them both. You can be far more experimental with a KORG M3 and can add a RADIAS board. If you buy just one, that is what I would recommend. Roland goes way overboard on reverb. YouTube does not leave enough room for additional comments.

@beautifulmicia hallo can you help me please . xs or m3 or kurzweil k2600x ? its for studio . i makeing a world music . thanx
StudioBerg121 2 years ago
I would have to say M3 for any music genre. The big reason is to obtain KARMA. I also have several Kurzweil synths and if you are going to do a lot of sampling, then perhaps you may consider a K2600xs. I would choose the M3 but my favorite of favorites is the Ensoniq TS. if you are buying used , the M3 should be the best deal.
beautifulmicia 2 years ago

They are both great boards tho.
kwd007 2 years ago
I own the Fantom G6 as of today, I have mainly been a DAW user Pro Tools, Logic, reasons....etc It all depends on your budget, the sound or genre you are going to record or play live, and your personal choice. Do I need any of these no, my g6 just replaced my Akai MPK49, which I can make sample sets in logic 9 and save as a new instruments. Computers do crash, I have a 2008 mac pro 8 core with 16gb of ram and still can have issues, either way workstation or Daw, both will get the job done.

dinastiamegatronica 2 years ago
dinastiamegatronica 2 years ago
dinastiamegatronica 2 years ago
