Yes the masamune was corrupted and turned back into its ruby form but no one knows who lead the fall of guardia but it couldnt have been lynx because he wasn't 'born' yet
So THAT'S how the Masamune became so corrupted! It must be the dreams of all those people mercilessly killed that made it the way it was in Chrono Cross.
Apparently you get it when you finish the game normally, but only on even finishes. Meaning the first time you finish the game it'll be your first playthrough, so that would be an odd number. If you played through to the very ending and got the normal FMV ending again, on your second playthrough, or your fourth, sixth, and so on, then you'll get this FMV. Or something like that. That Ending FAQ was a little confusing.
Nobody knows who stole the masamune or who lead the fall of guardia. But it was someone from a different time. Alot of people think it was Dalton from the Zeal era since he never died but got sucked into a gate. But nobody truely knows. Some even think it was magus, lol.

Though it's unknown who it is or how this happens, all that IS known is that it's 100% canon, as it pretty much sets the stage for Chrono Cross
