That's ridiculous......gartner should not have the record then. The record for the nets that way yes. But not with the way the nets are now. Either Fedorov or Niedermayer should hold it.
@jzimm1075 You wouldn't repost a car. Reposting is a crime. And why on earth does Chewbacca, an 8-feet-tall wookie live on Endor with 2-feet-tall Ewoks. That does not make sense.
Pause at 00:14 You can see the nets from the Flashback are about 2-3 feet forward from where the nets are now days... Hence why the old school records where literally a full second faster! The time would normally be cut shorted as time goes on just because the weight of equipment gets more light weight over the years.
@ThemediaTutorials1 getting faster as you get older is very hard, make sure you keep working hard, eat lots of greens and no snacks and never do drugs!
@OooHesGood yh i do eat my greens and i would never do drugs trust me i dont know why idiots out there do stuff like tht its crazy and when i go skating and get on the ice i feel i can get to a higher level every session so im going to work hard and push myself on the ice and build up to be a better skater thanks man!
damn the nhl is chaning...you got defencemen going in for fastest skater haha ....now i truly understand why the stanley cup is so respected. And the players ofcourse
@Arnies09 i may be wrong but if the nets are not at the exact same place, could it be because of the size of the rink ?? i guess in the nhl most of the rink are the same size though but theres probably a good reason to place the nets like that.
Some of these guys have really ugly strides. Granted they are NHL players and have superior speed to begin with but only Parise and Cogliano have good looking strides. Carter is practically standing upright which you are told from the beginning not to do.
@OrangeFizzz. Compared to who? i see you have no videos to prove that you are any better. I have videos that prove it. Why dont you post some if you are that great?
No matter what if Jason Chimera skated in this he'd win easily! Of course he will never make the All-star game. These are only the fastest that are at the all star game, not the fastest in the NHL.
Yes the nets were set in front of the goal line when Gartner set the record, but skate technology has evolved a lot since then so it should be about even.
Has it ever occurred to any of you that when Gartner set that record it was with the nets set in front of the crease on both ends of the ice, cutting down the circle the skater had to skate by several feet, thus lessening the skating distance and causing the 1 second faster speeds.
@chipayten Watch the Gartner video, only one net is taken off its proper place. Watch this video and you will see it is the exact same. The second net seen in the video isnt in the right spot, the end of the net is placed on the goal line. So both Gartner and everyone in this video had one net in the holes, and one not. They both skated on the goal line on their second net, so really there was no advantage to anyone.
@chipayten yeah but when theyre skating in this video, the net is placed ON the crease, still giving the same distance to skate, although there is less arm space when trying to lean in on a turn,
Yup, Gartner is 50 yrs old, was 36-37 when he set the record.... Seriously, if I was any one of the guys in this years competition, I would be ashamed!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Hahaha.... Proof NHL ers of today dont spend enough time on skating skills... Mike Gartner had to be close to 40 at the time he set the record. I bet he'd own over 80% of todays players. Man todays NHL sucks.
@nuffaction just because somebody cant skate that fast means that the NHL sucks? you must have high standards..the NHL is SO much better now than it was. theres alot more skill now
i agree, except cogliano and parise. carter didn't even look like he was trying. i think parise got screwed with the stopwatch though, but who really cares he a nice guy and had fun
Just watched Helm play an exhibition game at the MTS arena here in Winnipeg. He did a lap of the rink in a similar style skills competetion between periods and he skated 13.592. He's just so fast, tidy and long strides. The closest guy to him was a 14.5.
Fuck yeah man, I went to the leafs wings game last year and in the wings skating warm-ups I think helm did a half-ice lap in like 6 and a half seconds he is RIDICULOUSLY fast.
never in the competition but after watching play for many years the only guy ive seen faster is bill clement in the 70s or darryl powe in philly and posible upshall in phoenix kovalchuks pretty damn fast too
No way the record will ever get beat with the nets moved back like they are now. Back in '96' when Gartner was in the 13's the nets where in the front of the crease. They should keep the nets in the same place if they are still calling it a record...........
