@Wildgoose641 I'd wondered this for a long time, as well. But turns out it's that the only way to *end* (not necessarily *win*) the game is to catch the snitch. Usually catching the snitch wins the game because catching it gets the team 150 points, which is like 15 goals. But I kind of don't get why spend the entire game trying to earn that many goals if all you need to do is just catch the snitch...

@loljustice30 In "The Goblet of Fire" Ireland won against Bulgaria but the Bulgarian seeker caught the snitch. So you can't always know how it'll turn out.

Ah, nostalgia'd so bad, but when I think about it now, if the team wins by capturing the golden snitch, what's the point of the score system? They said the game ends with the capture of the snitch, so what's the point of the scoring? They never said you could win the game by having a number of points.

@darkwonderer321 they said it wrong. You have read the fourth harry potter book? The snitch gives 150 points so almost certainly you will win unless the other team has a 160 point lead on you.

@Beradical23 kind of.. But it gains you can adavantage.. Basically.. Catching the snitch gives you 150 points and ends the game.. But say if you have 0 points... and the other team has 160 points.. if your team then caught the snitch you would lose. So your team would not catch it instead they would try to score points.. get it.

It is stupid because instead of a time limited periods (eg. 1 h) and scoring for getting one of more than one snitches (eg. 3 snitches, 50 pts each) in play while playing until the time is up the only point of this game is not to get a beating, stay under a difference of 140 or less and be the first to get the snitch. You are winning by 140 points, the opposite team gets the snitch, you lose; you are losing by 160 points, you get the snitch, you lose. So, what's the point of scoring goals?

150 points for the team who gets the snitch...that the weak point of the Quidditch, that's way too much, it's makes all the other players beside the seeker almost totally useless. 50 points would be more appropriate i think.

@Addams1x1 no in quidditch the 150 points goes with the total amount of points for the houses so they would b ranked like 1st place gryffndor 2nd place slytherin 3 hufflepuff 4th ravenclaw so it adds up to who has the most points bt if u capture the snitch and the other team has more than ur team score + 150 then u still lose

@Addams1x1 Not quite true, in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix book Gryffindor are being thrashed by Slitherin but Ginny, who is playing seeker at the time since Harry has been banned catches the snitch but Gryffindor still lost even if they only lost by 10.

I have been a Harry Potter fan for about five years now. I love the novels and the films a lot, but the only thing I hate in Harry Potter is Quidditch. I don't get why the snitch is worth that much. Basicly if you catch the snitch you win. I have researched this and I found out that the reasoning is that you it doesn't matter if you win or lose, all that matters in the standings is points scored. My counter arguement is what if it's the world cup finals? There is no standings for that.
