  • How is the name of that song?

  • @Daewooverbrenner It's Santo & Johnny performing "Around the World in 80 Days" Hope this helps!

  • @shipgeek awesome thanks ;) Your Movies are great

  • @Daewooverbrenner Glad you like!

  • penname: Supertitanicfreak. My name is Tyler Joshua Frederick. I like everything but I don't see that matters, considering there is almost nothing I don't like. At this point of my life, I'm trying to avoid the word dreams, because I will make it a reality. And I have determination, I plan to built 4 Liners that almost exactly like Titanic & above all else work for a certain company.... A company call Cunard White Star Line or Cunard as most people just call it that.

  • I'm sorry, it's just that I never really like big u, is that what is sometime called? I wasn't with her interiors, & never had accepted her as a liner or the fact that she was faster than Queen Mary. Although, I love all Ocean Liners, there's something about united states that I didn't like, I think it's the alumilum. Sometimes when I hear her name, I rush into defense mode & stick up for Queen Mary. Sorry...

  • @SuperTitanicfreak no worries, but in the ongoing evolution of ocean liner design, the "Big U" really was the pinnacle. The best design to do what a liner was supposed to do... deliver her passengers with safety, speed and style. Always happy to agree to disagree!

  • awsome!

  • What is with American Like that bitch united states. There nothing special about her UGLY as sin, not like Liberte & France. There are beautiful Liners. More special then united states. I just France passing RMS Queen Mary sometime Poseidon in Southampton. This is the ultimate power!

  • @SuperTitanicfreak Beg to differ. The SS United States was the perfect ocean liner! By the way, all comments are moderated, so you needn't post multiple times, thanks.

  • as i am german this ship is more famous here as europa, and i am 23 now so i did not have a chance to experiance one of the great liners :-/

wasnt it weird to be on one of nazi germanys earlier flagliners

  • Thanks for the memories! I traveled west on the SS Liberte in Nov. 1953. Glad someone got it on film! We didn't own a camera back then!

  • I love how everyone is dressed! I remember crossing the pond aboard the Liberté eastwardly, late 1961. We had a blast!

  • I have to say, it is sooo generous of you to share your films here! How fabulous to be carried back there for a few minutes! Thank you!

  • Hey, that's the SS AMERICA in the background at the beginning! ;;;Gasp;;; And the RMS QUEEN MARY in Southampton at 2:00!!!

One of my favoUrite videos of yours!

  • yes what other ship is there,I thought this was the Liberte

  • Of course, it's just that there's also footage of the France.

  • I came over on this ship in 1953 from Germany

  • I assume you mean the Liberte? :)

  • My late father was berthing manager on the France and I was lucky enough travel on her in 1973 just before the oil crisis.

Still got alot of memorabilia from the France and other liners such as the Normandie on which my father also worked.

Thanks so much for a wonderful video.

  • Well as a boy I must have met him... I sailed 4 times on the SS France, I have a scar on my forhead from an accident in the pool in 1965 I think, a day after a grand storm around Newfoundland... the swell came from behind, I was in the pool (2nd class) and got whacked against the side. There were some 58 people with broken bones and other injuries from the storm. Planes just don't cut it for me.... I think I cried when I heard she was decomissioned.

  • The most sophisticated liner to date i reckon. A triumph of naval engineering, well next to the Normandie.

  • Great to see video of the old ship. I sailed on her as a boy from New York to France in June and returned July 1961. I believe '61 was her last year of service and she was scrapped in Italy in 1962. It was a great adventure and seeing the views from the funnels and at the stern brings back wonderful boyhood memories. Thanks so much for posting these.

  • SS France was later sold to norway and name was changed to SS Norway....

  • RIP beautiful France! Another gorgeous liner is being destroyed..I wish there was such a ting as time travel! What an awesome video

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the great home movie. It isn't common one actually gets to see candid footage aboard an ocean liner, particularly in color. Being an ocean liner geek all my life I've seen plenty of "stock footage" and company photos. To see a personal touch is really neat. Thanks :)

  • Nice video and music to go along with it ....Is the music by Santo and Johnny?(kinda sounds like it to me). What's the song titles/album? Just curious if you knew (or if the music was already accompanying the video when you acquired it).

  • Glad you like! The music is from "Around the World with Santo & Johnny" and the song is "Around the World in 80 Days". And by the way, I'm impressed!

  • Thanks - That's what I thought. I've seen that Santo and Johnny album and might just get it next time I see it (as I recall, it's the one where they're boarding a ship of the United States Line). I have their album titled "Come On In" (some great instrumentals on there as well).

  • Nice Video, it brings back many memories! It was our first cruise with friends in 1986 when it was NCL's SS Norway. It was a "Jazz Theme Cruise" with Cab Calloway, Dizzy Gillespie, Mel Torme, and Woody Herman. It had a great stage for performers. Too bad it's on the scrap pile, all things come to an end at some point. Thanks for the memories!

  • God Bless her

  • SS France is about to be scrapped. :(

  • Very nice! The ship still exist today as S/S Norway...
